Depends on your watches. Some wind in one direction, others are bi-directional winding. The a2836 which is a clone of the ETA 2836 is bi-directional. The a2813 probably the same, although I can't be sure. Miyota movements wind only in one direction. We're me, I would set it on# 3. See how it works, possibly try #4 if 3 isn't what you want. I suspect that either will be OK. M Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Mike, those are fantastic photos. I just got mine yesterday, and only got the chance to put it on this afternoon. Lots of things I like about the watch, a few I don't. It seems to be wearing fine. I like to wear my watches a little loose. This one seems to stay in place better than a lot that I have owned. Some have a tendency to want to "turn turtle", this one doesn't. The minuses to me are the legibility, black minute markers, between the lumed ones at 3,6,9,12 are hard to see. Also the Lume leaves a lot to be desired. I suppose with the small narrow indices and not a lot of room for Lume on the hands, that's what you would expect. Would be interesting to see how the Lume is on the genuine version. Thanks very much for your fine pictorial review. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Unless things have changed, Rolex will not service these old watches. They are in the same boat as everyone else, no parts, and even if you find a RSC that has parts and can service the watch, their prices are going to be sky high as well. Also they will not touch anything that is not original, so anything aftermarket will have to be replaced by Rolex. I believe that Freddy gave you some good advice. Prices of anything genuine for the 6542's are going to be sky high. This is simply the result of supply and demand. When the demand exceeds the supply prices go up. Like he said get the movement serviced. Parts are scarce and expensive and a service will keep the movement running a while longer. Another problem is there are not a lot of watchmakers that can work on these movements and have the parts. There are plenty that tell you they can, but they cannot replace worn parts as they don't have a source for them. To be honest, this may be a case of putting the watch up and wearing something else until you can afford to get it done right. Over time, you might be able to buy replacements like the dial and proper hands if you are diligent and keep looking. Once you get the parts, you can send it to a good watchmaker and have the movement serviced and parts installed at the same time. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Too bad Ingod is not around anymore, he had some pretty nice 6542 snap fit dials. Unfortunately he is long gone. Nice watch, and hopefully one day, you can afford to bring it back to it's original state. Good luck. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I would think that any of our TD's could source those for you. Just a matter of deciding which one, and more important, from which rep factory, as they all have flaws, just depends on which one has flaws that you can correct or live with. The only one of these I would be a little Leary of would be the Daytona. Because they all use a7750 movements with and additional non jeweled gear train to move the seconds from 9 to 6. This adds a reliability factor similar to the AP ROO's with the seconds at 12. Certainly not the best movement and one that is difficult to work on and get right. Because of this a lot of the watch repair guys on the forums won't work on these "altered" a7750 movements. Just some food for thought. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I like the Yellow Gold, harkens back to the older "classic" DayDates. Slimmer lugs and a slightly smaller case add to the more elegant look of the older models. Much to like about these except the price!! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

And like most guys here, 40 watches = .75 days/ month [emoji6]

Kernow, I agree. I emphasize, erratic behavior. Stops, starts, loses or gains time ( not 10 seconds, but minutes/ day). Very low power reserve, etc. Brand new ETA, Sellita, Seagull, movements that came sealed from the factory shouldn't' need a service for quite a few years. Older ETA's like the 2846's even if they are NOS, taken out of a watch that still has the tags and never worn are at least 20 years old. They need a service, as the lubricants are pretty much all dried out. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

You make a very good point. While I know the members here are above those types of scams, lots of folks aren't. The problem is, you build a "super franken" and at some point you need or have to sell it. Once it's sold, you have no control over it's destiny. It may become a treasured watch for another rep lover, but it also could fall into the hands of a scammer and next thing you know it's on EBay!!

I agree with Tom. Most are dry and dirty. Find a reliable watchsmith locally or at least in your country and when it becomes erratic, have it serviced. Any good watchsmith can do a service on and ETA or ETA clone. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Agree 100%. Rolex = closed Caseback = get the most reliable movement. Beat rate is same, no one will ever know. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Thanks. It is definitely not a "daily wearer" !! Pretty much only worn with a dark suit or Tux. Since I spend most of my life in scrubs, it doesn't get worn much. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

With watches that are pretty much all genuine, except for the case, and it being a very high grade aftermarket like a phong, it is virtually impossible to tell if the watch is genuine or not without a lot of knowledge and really close scrutiny. Would be interesting as to how they determined that this one was not 100%?

Best to wait and be patient. If you get a good one, you will be a happy camper and enjoy the watch. A bad one will always be bad, and you will always lament the fact that you didn't wait.
