  1. Beautiful photo!! No snow here, high today 80 with a 60% chance of thunderstorms. Definitely a "stay inside" Christmas. But, what the heck, family and friends, lots of food, what more can you ask. And to all my friends and fellow members here, Merry Christmas to one and all. Have a safe and wonderful day. 2. +1. Dr. B would ask more and get it. That dial is in pristine condition, and those are really, really scarce in that condition. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  3. Very nice!! I agree, maybe A service, and a good Crystal going over with polywatch would suffice. I love wabbi!!! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  4. Beautiful photo. Looks so serene and peaceful. Merry Christmas to everyone here. I hope that you all have a safe and happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year. From the Deep South, with prospects of rain and around 80 degrees on Christmas day!!! No snow and no Yuletide fire either. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  7. If it were me, with a genuine Rolex, I would use a watchsmith in the EU if possible. I'm sure there are lots of really good watchsmiths in Europe that are Rolex trained and have Rolex parts accounts. The cost would still be a lot less than the cost of sending your watch to a Rolex Service Center, and the local guy will work with you to fix what needs to be fixed and not insist on replacing everything like Rolex does. Ssteel is a very good and highly thought of member who does great work. You should contact him and see if he will work on your watch and if he has access to Rolex parts for the service and repairs. From the looks of yours, at a minimum, the crown tube and crystal need replacing as well as a service. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  8. Credit cards are pretty safe, at least where fraud is involved. If the seller doesn't deliver, or later tries to use your card for something else, the card companies in my experience are very much on the card holders side. I don't know how proactive they would be in the case where you actually received the merchandise and were not satisfied. Not sure they would get in the middle of a dispute, like PayPal would if you file a dispute. Since the majority of dealer problems seem to be more service related, such as sending a watch that is not exactly what you thought you were getting, or a watch that has mechanical problems, loose or missing parts or is DOA, rather than just not delivering your watch, PayPal may be a safer alternative. Also, in a lot of cases, my card issuer will deny a charge to an entity in China initially, then I get a call or email from their Fraud department asking if I made the charge and is the seller known to me. If I answer that I know the seller and I did indeed make the charge, they OK it and it will go through. My question here is, once I personally OK the seller as someone known to me, if the deal goes South, will the credit card company work to get my money back, or will they say, we alerted you and you said they were OK, so we are out of the picture? 9. Have to agree, the early ones were pretty bad!! I remember seeing a few Rolex Day Dates that were superficially correct until you noticed the "jumping" seconds hand. Quartz movements didn't fool anyone who had any knowledge of genuine Rolex watches. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  10. Please say hello to Lani. We really miss him here. Great member who is really missed. I know you guys are sitting around comparing your Doxas!!!! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  11. Buy it with the a2824. Start looking for a Tissot with the powermatic 80 movement. This is a really good ETA movement that is slow beat like the genuine AP Diver. Transplant that into your V7, and you will have one of the best and most accurate AP reps around. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  12. Misielkped is a trusted member here, and a darn good watchsmith. He knows his stuff and he will do a complete service with Rolex parts and the proper lubes and grease and it will cost you half what a Rolex Service Center will charge. Plus Rolex will want to replace the Crystal, crown/tube and whatever else they think they can get away with!! That bill will be 4X what misielkped charges. I'm assuming that you are in the USA? If so, you can send it to him Express mail (overnight), priority mail, FedEx or UPS. I believe that USPS Priority has a 5000.00 USD limit on insurance, don't know about the others. I wouldn't ship it anywhere til after Christmas and the Christmas shipping Rush is over. Don't use that watch for diving. First it's an unserviced vintage watch. Seals and gaskets are old and brittle, that old acrylic Crystal may have cracks that are concealed below the bezel, plus these were not designed as dive watches, although when new they had good water resistance. Get a little salt water inside undetected, and by the time you discover it, your movement might be a hunk if rust!! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  13. Back in the mid 1980's there were reps being sold through ads in the back of magazines. I think the first one I saw was a Rolex DayDate with a Quartz movement! This was around 1984-85. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  14. I generally put broken horological device for repair, or horological parts. Valuation depends on what it is. I usually ship with fairly low for reps, if I sell someone a genuine watch, it ships with full valuation and full insurance. USPS will not allow you to insure for more than the customs declaration stated, so if you declare the value at 50.00 USD, That's all you can insure it for. I believe that one thing has to be made crystal clear between buyer and seller, the watch once it leaves my possession, belongs to the buyer. He takes all risks for loss, damage, customs seizures and duty. Only after we agree to these terms will I sell and ship a watch outside the CONUS. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  16. Honestly, There aren't many options for service and repair of the a7750 movement in the USA. You might contact Vac in Florida. He is listed here on RWG. You might ask around on RWI as they have a very active AP forum. Getting these fixed properly has been problematic as they are difficult to work on and are not the most robust movement. When I say that, I'm not speaking about the conventional sec@9 a7750, but the AP version with the sec@12 conversion. Same problem with the Rolex Daytonas with the sec@6 conversion. 17. Just got this yesterday. Crappy cell photo!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. I agree about the mech. Movement. Lots of folks are not into watches at all, and a mechanical movement may prove to be a nuisance. Things that are nuisances tend to be put aside. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  19. Windy, nasty day. GMT IIC today Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. I got one from Matt to use on a build he did for my wife, overall it's pretty good, although it like all the rep bracelets are gold plated. It depends on what you want to pay for one. I know that some watchmakers who work on genuine Rolex watches can source solid gold bracelets that are made in Italy. They are not cheap, but probably half the price of a replacement bracelet from Rolex. I believe that they use the original clasp with the Italian bracelet, and endlinks. Like alligoat said, you have to know the model to get the correct shaped endlinks though. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  21. WOW!!!! Man, that is a fantastic job. Kudos to you for all the time and work. I totally agree about the parts. I probably have three drawers in my tool chest with nothing but parts that were " supposed to fit" but didn't!! I probably need to have a garage sale at some point! To me the 1680 is probably the icon of vintage Rolex watches. I know that many would not agree, especially the guys who are in to vintage Daytonas. But back in it's day, it was THE watch to have if you wanted a rugged, reliable "tool" watch. Yours is a beautiful example. Now all you need is a gen Pearl to finish it off. Great job! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  22. Looks very nice. Did you service the movement? Misielkped has been using these along with some Rolex parts to convert them to the correct hand stack GMT movement. His main comments are they all are very dirty and need a complete service before use. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  23. Where are you located? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
