  1. If in doubt, don't do it. If it was my own decision I would do it. Several reasons, a gen is a gen, can't go wrong with a gen Rollie (don't like after a while you can sell it without a loss), would like to have something to pass on to my kids (can't do that with a rep), they live for ever, my mother has a gen Daydate for more than 30 years (her watch has had only one service, last year!).
  2. I don't think it is the bracelet but maybe it is the holes in the lugs who are misplaced!
  3. Lets try to keep this topic alive. Here is my 1680.
  4. Very nice builds. Love the daily beater.
  5. I did not like the look of the bezel insert. The pearl was to small and the quality of the insert is not very good. So I thought I would give it a try to vintagize it a bit and make myself a new pearl. This is the result: Thanks for looking.
  6. Maybe you can post a link! There is so much to choose.
  7. Yes, from 1.6 meters. It is still running fine.
  8. Hey Frank, it is most likely due to no photograph skills and only a iPhone on my side. But thanks for the comments, they are highly appriciated.
  9. Thanks for your comment. I've checked it with a gen and to me it seems to be OK on both. Gen: Mine: OK, left one is still a little to thick. Gen: Mine: Looks like the same height to me. You are absolutely right about the insert.
  10. I always loved the vintage Rolex Submarine models. But I was never sure what model I liked the most and wanted to add to the collection. After a lot of thoughts and research I decided to go for the 1680. It appeals the most to me. Since I don't like the yellowish/brown/orange, very fake looking lume on most available and wanting to be sure to exchange gen parts it had to be a MBK/MBW. Not knowing then that it was not assured getting the newer MBW 1680 was a guarantee that gen parts would fit. Only knowing of Narikaa to source one for me, I asked him and he succeeded. It was a pleasure dealing with him. It took a long time but that was just me picking out a bad time ordering one. I asked FxrAndy to help me mod the 1680. His suggestion was: - Shave the inside of the CGs a little front and rear. - Drill the lugs, end links and bracelet and fit gen spring bars - Lume the dial and hands light Ivory - A new pearl for the insert I could not agree more and he did an excellent job. Unfortunately the pearl was damaged during transport back to me. I was able to restore it with some 5 min epoxy. I was pretty happy with the overall result but....... I still had an itch, install a Clark 127 crystal. The date magnification on the stock crystal was not so great. And we all know that this is one of the great features the 1680 has. Well it happen that a day later my 127 Clark crystal arrived. After installation, which was a direct fit of the crystal on the rehaut. I only had to shave a little down from the outside of the crystal to get the retaining ring fit. During inspection of the result the worst thing happened.............. the watch head fell down on a concrete floor . Guess what, direct on the newly installed date mag of the crystal. So I spent the whole afternoon to polish it out. The only way you can see it now is watching the date, there is a light distortion on the left side. Well lets say it adds character to the watch being vintage and so... Long story short, here is the result: Here is a gen: Here is mine: I would like to thank Narikaa, FxrAndy and Cats for making this possible.
  11. The matt finish of the strap goes very well with the ceramic of the watch. Very nice combo.
  12. Well, it really is stainless steel. That makes it a sort of fantasy model.
  13. No, it is the light that makes it gold. The real watch is SS.
  14. Is this a fantasy model or does it exist? Was sold as a 2008 Basel launched model but I cannot find it. At least not in SS.
  15. I don't think you can go wrong with this one. Man, I wish my dad did something similar back in those days.
  16. I absolutely love both. Very good choice and I understand why they are your favorites.
  17. Me jealous on both, picture and watches.
  18. Yes, I can not agree more (on both).
  19. Ok, thanks. I have similar hands bought from Clarks (tudor hands)
  20. Yes, they are. Why are you asking, something wrong with them?
  21. It looks really great. I might consider this for mine too.
  22. Thank you for your responses. It is a 703 crown and I am of understanding it will fit all 3. I think that, after the relume, the 1665 will become my daily beater. And since this has a very thick crown it would be the best candidate. However it could bring the 6263 to the next level and since I need to handwind it I would benefit from a gen crown every day I wind it. I have a clark 127 for the 1680 and with the gen crown it could bring it to a next level too. So in short, I need two more gen crowns
  23. OK, the title say's it all. I have 1 gen crown plus Clark tube but I have 3 watches that still have rep crowns. 1. 1665 GW (will get a re-lume real soon). PT, ETA 2846 (serviced), gen T-39. 2. 1680. MBW, Re-lumed, GC shaved, lugs drilled. 3. 6263 PN. Spinmaster build with 7760, gen T-21. Group shot. Please let me know what you would do. Thanks for looking.
  24. Thanks. And I have traced the watch back, yes, it is a gen crystal ! One question, how many winds does the A7750 converted to 7760 need to get fully wound?
