Interesting article about the El Primero movement and the man who was supposed to destroy the tooling. https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/charles-vermot-the-man-who-saved-the-el-primero-and-possibly-zenith In the article it says Rolex used the El Primero to replace the Valjoux 72 in the Daytona and that it needed no alterations to fit in the case. I was wondering if the chronograph dials on the El Primero in the same location as the V72? Is it possible to build a 6263 and use an El Primero movement?

Same problem as swdivad. If a topic has more than one page, I cannot click to the next page. If I do, the next page will only display the header and "loading" at the bottom. To display the next page, I have to go back to the topic listing and click on the page directly.

No. The TC crystal retainer has a larger outer diameter than a genuine crystal retainer. I had to machine the TC crystal retainer on a lathe to get a genuine bezel to fit and it was a pain in the neck. Maybe one of the aftermarket crystal retainers on ebay are gen spec and can be used with a gen bezel?

Someone on RWG had posted a different way of installing the tube that didn't reqire epoxy. They had pressed a sleeve in the watch case and then tapped the hole to fit the gen tube. Maybe your watchsmith has access to a jewelers lathe and can machine you a sleeve.

It won't work if you are swapping just the outer bezel ring and insert. The TC crystal retainer, the part that the outer bezel snaps onto, has a larger outer diameter than a genuine crystal retainer. If you want to change the entire bezel assembly, including the crystal retainer, then it will work.

The best way to go is to get the entire bezel assembly, that way you know all the pieces are compatible. Gary at nostalgia-2000 on ebay, has a nice bezel assembly. It looks like gen, but it does not use a friction washer like gen. It is reasonably priced at $40-$50. I checked and he currently doesn't have one on ebay. The TC crystal retainer does not fit a gen bezel, the outer diameter is too big.

I think the seller from Italy is selling rep divers extensions. The crown doesn't look right to me. Compare it to the crown from the first seller. Also, the italian seller says the part is 101% Rolex...hmmm

Since the pearls from an aluminum bezel submariner don't fit the ceramic bezel submariner, it might be easier to buy a replacement ceramic bezel. Hi Dan, I wound up machining the TC crystal retainer to fit the gen bezel. There's a fair amount of trimming to do. The outside diameter needs to be reduced, and then cut a bevel on the underside for the bezel to snap over. Once I got the diameter to the right size and the bezel would snap on, the retainer was too thick...the bezel wouldn't rotate. I didn't have the spec's for a gen retainer, so there was a lot of sneaking up on the correct thickness. It would definitely be easier to buy a gen retainer, or a properly sized rep retainer.
