When I built my franken I simply swapped the parts from a 2836 gmt movement to a 2846. I followed the Sneed tutorial and everything worked like a charm.
I usually use a broken oil pick and depress the spring that holds the date wheel in place, press that spring in and try to rotate the date wheel with a set of tweezers, it should give and come off, reverse the process to reinstall.
Dial dots and a modded raffles movement ring will work. The 2783 I had in my 1016 16014 cased franken started losing time so I switched it out with one of those Seagull 2824 movements. Haven't had an issue yet. I simply put the dial dots on the movement, slapped on the dial without the calender spacer ring thing, mounted the hands, cased and was in business.
I recall having to go around with a dremel on the retaining ring to get my bezel to turn. All three bezel sets I got from Clarks needed work to properly turn. I also had to shave the inserts to get them to fit correctly.
One of these with the date went for over $300 on ebay yesterday...This summer I bid on one only to lose it at the last second. It was in better shape and went for something like $98

Measures in at 41mm. I would have preferred 36-39mm, but it has lug holes!
