  1. Nice one. or if fashion is more your fort
  2. Just getting ready to head out for an extra long weekend with the family and thought I would wish my fellow Canadians a "Happy Canada Day!"
  3. Hey B, just been very busy now with the new addition... I've got a few projects on the burner that I would love to get to but just don't have the time. Including the Military homage we discussed. I gotta make use of that dial I picked up. How is your project coming along? Did you get if finished? Thanks T, I haven't had a chance to call down there. Hopefully next week.
  4. So I picked up an exhibition case back for another project I have in the back of my mind. It will be an homage to a military watch. This back is made for a genuine Rolex datejust case. The quality of the back is very high and fits the genuine Rolex case perfectly. It screws on nice and smooth. Very nice finish with sapphire crystal display. Just for fun I installed it on my 16200 Franken that is powered with a very nicely finished ETA 2892-A2. Unfortunately GUCCI is engraved on the rotor, but other than that, the movement is absolutely beautiful and a real treat to look at. I think I'll keep it on for a few days before I go back to the Rolex case back. Here are a few pics to show the movement and exhibition back. Enjoy.
  5. If you want to build an authentic looking watch, you will have to go with the 36mm DJ case and tropic 22. otherwise you are just building a fantasy watch. Only the Milgauss was a large case size. 38mm. Subs are 40mm. 1016 explorer (including space-dweller) 36mm regardless... I'd love to see the outcome if you proceed! Also, there is no sub dial size. They will all be 28mm dials (27.8mm)
  6. Your best bet is to use a 16200 case. For starters, the caseback design is the same as the original 1016 case. Also, the Tropic 22 fits the case perfectly. You may need to modify the smooth bezel to fit over the crystal though. I'd have to double check. Also, you will need to drill out the lug holes to accept 2mm springbars if you want that authentic look. As for the movement, you would want slow beat, but unfortunately, the 2846 does not fit in the 16200 case. What I did was build a hybrid movement by transplanting the 2846 balance, etc, into a 2801 mainplate and use one of my movement holders and you are set! No need to install any Day/Date function as there is no date on the Explorer. Also, you can install a stop lever so it hacks, and also install a 2 pos. set bridge to bypass the date setting function. only manual wind and time set function is needed. see my sig pic below: it is a 16200 case with drilled lug holes, tropic 22 crystal installed with a modified smooth bezel.
  7. These have been posted before, but here is my Franken 1016. Here are some shots with the 78360 and 580 hoods. And a few shots with the folded 7836 and 258 hoods:
  8. Have you thought about getting a Playstation 3? HDMI hook ups for the HDTV. will play CD/ DVD/ BLU-RAY and also play multi format files from your computer. stream, or load to the built in hard drive. access your music files, photos, etc. And also play Guitar Hero! I just picked up an Apple TV so I can rip all my kids DVD's and store them on the 160G hard drive. This saves the DVD's and the DVD tray from constant abuse and damage. All the DVD's are now stored on the Apple TV and it is easy to scroll through and select an episode of Sesame Street to watch. I used a program called Handbrake to rip the DVDs to the Apple format. So far so good! I was considering the PS3, but opted for ATV so we can download HD movies from the iTunes store.
  9. I am in the beginning stages of putting together a Franken-mid with a genuine case and powered by the ETA 2000. The movement is very close in diameter to the Rolex 2135. 19.4mm vs 19.8mm or something like that. date progression is the same, so I should be able to use a gen disc as an overlay. The gen case is 30mm without the crown.
  10. I think before I was to take it out for a night on the town, I would spend a few hours taking some measurements, maybe a couple of impressions, and begin work on a franken-cup for the office!
  11. I don't think it will work for you. The 24-603-0 crowns were introduced with the sapphire crystal. You would need a 24-600-0. Do you have a 24-603-0? Or are you planning on buying one from a certain seller on the bay from AZ? He lists 24-603-0 but sends out 24-600-0 crowns. So if you already bought one from him, then you probably have the 24-600-0. Very confusing. If you do have a 24-603-0, let me know, If it is in good condition, I'll buy it from you.

    Explorer I?

not hard at all! All you need is the proper movement holder! And I think I know someone that can help you out! ETA 2824-2 to fit 3135 case. I have a CNC machined holder for this very purpose. or you could go a little more high quality and use a ETA 2892-A2. I have a holder to fit 2892-A2 to 3135. Whatever movement you use, ideally you would want to mod it to a non date movement. Strip down the date function and replace the set lever to TWO position. Pos. 1 manual wind, Pos. 2, hack and time set.

    19mm strap?

Here's the buckle: 320259645411 I've bought from this seller in the past. fast shipping and quality product. and the strap you can pretty much get anywhere, unless you want a rolex branded strap.
  14. great thread! it sparked my interest in this model. and with NDT! If you think having to drill proper hole sizes is a problem.... how about no lug holes at all in their 1016 version of a case! For $850, what are they thinking?
  15. No Alli, But I know the 1019 is fitted with a 5.3mm crown and not 6mm crown. I just don't know about the 6541 if it is 5.3 or 6. only reason I ask about the MBW case, is if it is the same size as gen, otherwise you won't be able to fit any parts to it that are 1:1.
  16. I may be mistaken, but doesn't the Milgauss use a 5.3mm crown, or was that just later models? What is the case size of the MBW 6541?
  17. That is crappy Tom. I hate personal property crime! And very nice of the members to share with Tom. It looks like it will turn out okay with your insurance company as they only need to see the manual. At first, my first thought was, they may want to see the SN, model number from the packaging. I threw away all my packaging, but if I remember correctly, isn't the SN, etc, on the box label? It is a good thing they don't want to see that, otherwise, if you were to supply them with that information, that SN would be flagged as stolen and then the rightful owner of that iPod would be in possession of stolen property. Just something to think about.
  18. Sounds good freddy. I'll check with them as I have an oustanding order with them and need to call them anyway. cheers!
  19. yes, only $30 on $1000, but they already took 3% in fees for accepting payment. So now I'm looking at 6%
  20. Good ideas. I think I will set up a new account next week for that purpose. I also like to leave funds in the account for my sales as well, in case anything goes south, the money is there for a quick refund if necessary.
  21. wow! that is a true beauty!
  22. We all hate them, and I hate them even more! I usually leave my funds in my PP account for future purchases, but I had to pull some out this morning to pay my CNC guy. Anyway, the exchange rate that PP gave me is: 1 U.S. Dollar = 0.964195 Canadian Dollars I checked my bank, and if I was to sell them 1 U.S. Dollar, it would net me 0.995241 Canadian Dollars. That is a 0.031046% swing in Paypal's favor. I called their customer service, and they said the difference is due to daily market fluctuation.
  23. I'm not familiar with that thread and it may have been mentioned, but keep in mind that "if" the links are solid gold, they are probably a very low karat, and then plated with either 14K or 18K. It is solid, but not solid 14K or 18K.
  24. If CBR doesn't get back to you in the next day or two, PM me, and I'll send you that part. I was just going through some parts and have a spare I can mail you. Just PM your address.
  25. Yeah, that's a weird one. But finding a gen 3055 is great for franken projects!
