  1. I highly doubt it will be a success. I just watches the Video presentation of the iPhone ( over 1.5 hours long). I gotta give it to Apple, the phone simply rocks, and I'd love to get my hands on one of those, BUT 500$ including a contract for thze 4Gig version? I mean comeon, who is going to pay that much for a phone? I got my last phone for 100$ including a 2 year contract (that was about 2 years ago) and it was a State-of-the-Art 3G UMTS Phone that can place VIDEO CALLS and all that kind of stuff.

The only phone I have ever seen that cost that much with a contract was the Nokia Communicator, and that phone does not sell good AT ALL. A Student cant afford to pay 500$ for a phone. The only ones who can afford this, are those that make 50k+ a year. And I dont really think that those want all the fancy stuff the iPhone has.

Steve even said during the Keynote, the BEST selling iPod is the cheap one, the 4Gig Nano. Why do you think is that? Because ppl think 4GB is better than 8 or 80GB? No, it's because they say to themselves "60$ more is a lot of money for me, even though I get double the space, I cant afford it!"

They sold a lot of those 300$ iPods, yes, but they sell MUCH MORE Nanos, Shuffles and iPodMinis (the much cheaper ones). The iPhone is HUGE, who can fit this mofo in his pocket?!

Apple intends to sell 10 Million iPhones in North America in 2007. Let's see if they actually will, I certainly would NOT bet money on it!

  2. see, my advice could have made you rich! Apple is up about 10% (thats a lot of Money for a few days). But take my advice and sell your apple stock NOW, wait a few days, till it goes down to 85-88$ and then buy again, and hold it till BEFORE (!!) the iPhone launches, because it wont hit the market as they expect (IMO) - its just too expensive to be a major success!

  3. Exactly--it's all about marketing & PR. The almighty image.

A gen sub can go to 1000 ft, but has no HEV, even though you need one after 200 feet? And even though you can't breath regular air w/ nitrogen after 200 ft--not to mention the human head implodes at 600 feet--the wonderful Submariner will still go to 1000 feet, though...

My Pighead will last at least 2000 feet!

  4. I have a circa 50 year old movement that is very hard to wind, and I dont think its good on the crown and because of that I want to make the winding smoother. What could be the reason for the winding being so hard?

On my asian unitas, the winding is very very smnooth. Even my 50+ year old Cortebert 616 has smooth winding compared to this movement.

My guess is, that it could be because it has a harder mainspring, that is harder to wind. Replacing the mainspring with a "softer" one is probably not possible, is it (because then, the movement wont have enough power)?

I'd like to try this on my own, without getting it serviced by a watchmaker, because other than that, the movement runs fine as long as you dont touch the area around balance and keeps good time.

    Thanks!

  5. Yet Slay defends them. I wonder if he actually thinks they're not scamming or if he's just trolling to get a rise out of some of us. It's hard to tell, because when he trolls normally, he's highly entertaining and very funny. :D

I just said they are not scamming like best swiss, who charges 1000$ for a submariner or other sites that send you nothing.

Italian movement or asian movement, who gives a [censored] what they call it, I have bought watches from our dealers that were supposed to have sapphire (and had mineral), too.

They just provide those who dont know anything about watches with reps and while doiung that, they bend the truth a little bit. But they dont use pics of gens or the like

I dont care what you think, I never said I would buy from them, I just said their prices are reasonable!

  6. Plan to spend a couple of days in Paris during Valentine's day time - probably something between 13-16.02

I am not sure how is the schedule going to look like as we would like to see everything there with my gf but maybe we can work out a small gtg then?

Should know for sure about the trip this week, I am now trying to find a good place to stay over there.

    Cheers

    Maciek

Just a few very good ones:

    Le Meurice

4 seasons (they are ALWAYS good, I loved the ones in milan and hamburg)

    The Hyatt

    Ritz

  7. Selling replicas is already illegal.

Would you go to the police if you paid too much for cocaine, for instance?

you are comparing apples with oranges. buying cocaine (and the posetion) is highly illegal. buying a replica is not. or else the whole CSI has to go to prison for handling fake daytonas!

also, this global replica thing is not that much of a "scam". their items are reasonably priced. I see daytonas with chrono movements for 327$. Even if its asian, thats not much more than our dealers charge for an asian 7750 daytona!

and I remember very well that members here paid more than 1000$ for a swiss 7750 daytona!

  8. whenever I go into my bed (for whatever reason), I take my watch off. Especially when you lose your temper sometimes, a big pam can hurt your opponent really bad. I would feel bad if I knocked someone out with my fiddy. And it would probably damage my fiddy, too (if that someone happens to be a Gregarius) :)

Also I dont like sweaty straps or bracelets!

  9. Sorry, I don't believe these are all real warnings. I need more than a funny email to show me that these are all genuine warnings.

If anyone can find the actual news item of a kid's parents suing a costume company cos their kid died trying to fly, I'll eat my hat.

as for the superman costume, there is actually a whole book about this and other stupid things. take a look yourself:

    http://www.amazon.de/Wearing-This-Garment-...e/dp/0743244753

    now eat your hat!

as for there being more warnings for americans than for all other nations combined on certain products, the living witness is me. I have seen this many many times. Especially on beach gear.

  10. In america they simply HAVE to do it, because america has such wonderful laws, that parents who lost a child, because they thought that their kid could actually FLY off the rooftop with the superman costume, can sue the company that produced the product for NOT warning them that the product does not give anyone the ability to fly...!

It's always funny when you buy products that have warnings in different languages on them. It usualy has warnings in a few languages on them, very SHORT warnings, the most important ones. Maybe 1 or 2 warnings max. When it comes to "USA:" it has more warnings - only for americans - than for all the other 10 languages combined.

  11. I do it, too. All the time. But mostly I do not go up to them and ask them about their watch or anything like that. Especially not if they are much older than me&total strangers (I'm still pretty young).

But since I check out almost everyones wrist, I have seen quite a few PAMs, even at places or events where you wouldnt think anyone would wear a Pam. My niece (5 years old) had a play at her kindergarden and I saw quite a few parenty with Pams and omegas and so on!

Even during our last thaiboxing tournament I saw the father of my victim wearing an Omega. But it didnt fit the rest of him, he came with sweatpants (had a mullet, too) and looked rather funny :)

  12. Slay - I dont think you live in Canada. I do and 13 Panerai and one Rolli later I have had no problems...

But I talked to a lot of canadians, including a Dealer who lives in Canada plus I was around (maybe you werent) a long time ago when there WAS this rumor about canadian customs that no watch gets through. Maybe this has changed, I dont know, but dealers will have their reasons when they tell me that canada is a [censored]!

  13. hi guys,

am in a bit of a problem, a watch ( breitling navi 7750) from the US and declared as a repair was sent to me in Germany.....

Now i get a slip from customs telling me to bring in a warranty, ebay bill or dealers bill.

    what should i do?

any help appreciated, auch von euch die dieses Problem schon hatten!!!

    cheers,

    Robbie

Let me guess, he send it via EMS? I guess that happens when you dont use the search function and inform yourself. I have warned german members many times about NOT ORDERING STUFF VIA EMS FROM THE USA OR TAIWAN

They are not stupid at customs. If you want them to believe that you send the watch in the US for repair, you have to have a postal reciept AND the invoice of the repair. Still you have to pay taxes on the repair (sometimes at least) which is 19% or so.

You will definitely have to open the watch infront of them. And if you dont have a proper invoice, they WILL confiscate it AND prosecute you for importation of fake goods. They HAVE to do this once you OPEN the package. If you keep it closed and tell them to return it to the sender, nothing will happen.

  14. I think in the long term you'll make the biggest profits with companies working in the sector of renewable energies... the energy ressources aren't very high... petroleum and natural gas will last 30 to 50 years depending of the opion of the experts who made it... if the consumption doesn't increase, we all know that the chinese market is growing and also their hungriness for energy...

i agree. and i'm very happe to be german, because we are the leaders in the renewable energy secotr ;)

but if you want to invest in renewable energy, you have to be an expert in that area so you can determine who's gonna be the global player of the future. not all of the current renewable energy corporations are going to survive the next 10 years.
