  1. I've been reviewing my plan for the SouthAfrican MilSub I'm planning on building as a forum giveaway, and realized that the PVD case I had planned to buy, is the wrong style... I can buy the correct case style, but it's only in SS, so I was wondering if there might be any possibility of including the case in a future run?
  2. As above, I'm not a fan of gold, but that's a fine build
  3. It's funny you should say that, as when I installed a new dial in my vintage sub, the movement suddenly began to run at -10 minutes per day I'm not too fussed, as I'll just transplant in a new movement from a donor purchase, but it was really wierd that the movement suddenly develop the miss-timing Oh well
  4. I never saw any while I was there in May, but then again, it probably depends on what part of the city you're in... If you make it to Ikebukuro, check out a British-theme pub called The Hub. The bitesize fish and chips are awesome Be sure to drink lots of Pocari Sweat too
  5. That grey dial looks really elegant, I bet the watch would look awesome on a decent leather strap
  6. Just to whet your appetite, this is the plan I'm going to be roughly following Sadly, I can't get it Teflon coated, as per the gen, but I'm sure PVD will be acceptable As you say, it's pretty rare, so I figured it would be fun to create something not often seen, and hopefully, I'll be able to source the parts very easily As you say, you might as well have something you like Much better to build something you want, rather than buying something and learning to like it, and you're quite right, out in the wild, only a true WIS is going to know, and chances are, if they know watches that well, they'd appreciate it for what it is, rather than some elitist gen owner who only knows what their watch cost I think the Rolex line with the greatest 'flexibility' is probably the DateJust/DayDate, simply because there is so much variation across the range Glad to be of inspiration, and if you do have any questions, I'll certainly do my best to answer them, although there are folks here who know way more than I do
  7. If it was stopping while being worn, that could indicate that the movement needs a service. To be fair, I once sold a watch to a friend where the movement had been serviced (twice) only a month or so previously, yet for some reason, it just died about a month later. Let's hope things can be resolved
  8. Many thanks again Next off the line, will be a SouthAfrican MilSub, which I'll be donating as a forum giveaway I think there's two distinct approaches to projects: Building for a particular watch, and being as accurate as possible, and building simply for the pleasure of building I tend to lean more towards the latter approach I can appreciate the effort which goes into a build such as by Freddy, Ubi and others, but it's not a level I strive to aspire to. As long as the watch comes out as I had in mind, I'm happy
  9. If the power reserve was a known flaw at the time of sale, it should have been disclosed. Just to clarify, are you referring to the power reserve while the watch is off the wrist for observation, or is it stopping while it is actually being worn? I hope you manage to get an amicable resolution, best of luck
  10. From what I understand, DLC is PVD's harder and more durable big brother
  11. +1 on the sewing machine oil. It really does make a difference
  12. That's awesome, T, thanks for the link So far, I've been using a butane cigar lighter and getting reasonable results, but not quite perfect yet... Lets just say I've got a project in mind
  13. I'm trying to get the hang of it, and wondered if anyone had any hints?
  14. Thanks indeed The watch cost £26, if memory serves, and the dial is simply a layer of vinyl with a woodgrain finish I removed the dial markers, applied the sticker, poked holes with a pin for the markers to re-attach, and that was the result It should've had the full complement of Roman numerals, but one of the markers snapped, so I had to improvise/compromise on the design
  15. She's a kick-ass chick, to be sure
  16. I've just got into the series, and figured it had some watch-porn potential, and wondered if anyone had eyeballed precicely what folks were wearing? In an ad I caught a glance of, what my mind identified as a pumpkin Planet Ocean, on Michael Weatherly's wrist, but I haven't been able to get a good enough glimpse to confirm/deny that... Here's a little inspiration...
  17. First time I've seen a Doxa on rubber, but me likey Awesome perishing at the flexing point as well, vintage battle-scars
  18. Absolutely so I think it's a reasonable risk... Reps aren't waterproof...
  19. "Wrong watch for the job..." :bangin: :bangin: The ignorance of some people never ceases to amaze me
  20. I believe they do, but I'm sure I read that it is better if the movement comes in a sealed foil pack rather than just a plastic shield Best to consider the options and see what's the best solution Give it a quick spritz to see what you think, but I think you'll like it
  21. I'd say somewhere mid-way between the two... I've never done it myself, but I believe that if someone knows what they're doing, and could sufficiently strip the movement, it's probably quite easy to re-align the parts/levers correctly. The problem, is being able to strip the movement sufficiently to access them. If you'd have to get a watch-smith to do the work, it might be more cost-effective to simply swap the movement entirely Best of luck [Edit to add] On another note, did you ever get round to trying that deoderant from the Mercadona?
