Awesome! Thanks, @hologramet. I've been reading up on your builds and it's been super helpful! Will I need a movement ring, or should it plop right in there and just need the retainer tabs? Do you think the dial is any good or should I keep searching? @interaktiv, that's gorgeous! That appears to be the same dial I'm looking at. Are you happy with it? Did you need a movement ring with the 2451? I see that's a yuki insert, is it also a yuki assembly and retainer? Is it the same midcase I have? So it seems I should just go Athaya for both crown and tube. How hard is it to drill and tap the case to fit the tube?

My PCG 5513 or 5512 Build - Help me decide on parts So this case came up for sale right when I was reading up on PCGs so I bought it. Now I need to decide where I'm going. I'm looking for a gen T19 right now. I'm searching for the best 700 crown I can get for the money. I assume I'll need to replace the tube on this one. If I go gen crown, should I just go Athaya tube? What bits do I need to tap the whole once drilled? Anyone know what ETA movement ring I may need? Do I go for a 2846 movement for this? Seller said it took a gen bezel assembly, so should I just go Yuki for the full set? @Nanuq may have some good advice on this. For hands, it looks like Clarks or @Bart Cordell recommended jkhorological in the 5513 thread. Am I good with these? And then of course the dial. There's a lot of options on Ebay, although, I don't know if they're really the best, nor the most reasonably priced. The closest I'd found was this one: Compared to this example that I'd found: Now, using this dial, I'd have to call this a 5512. But the coronet and fonts seem to be the closest. What do you guys think? All of you were such a big help with my 16610/16800 build (can't believe that was two years ago already, still going strong!). I got a bit bored with watches and started building rifles last year, but now I'm back. I appreciate any guidance you guys can provide! Thanks again!

Thanks. My decision was made when I impulse bought a 5513 PCG case. Now I need to start studying dials and inserts and bugging you guys with questions on what I should get. LOL

This is super helpful, @JoeyB! Thanks for sharing your expertise. I have a Hobby Lobby I pass once a week so I'll check it out and play around. Have you played with nitrocellulose lacquer at all? Me and my old man used to refinish guitars and you could get some interesting aging effects by changing temperature drastically. In the meantime, I picked up the 5513 PCG case in the Parts forum here from @Champagnesky. Any my recommendations on good bezels and dials?

Wow! Thanks for the info @JoeyB! That's extremely helpful! I'll have to read more on dial decals, but on the surface, I feel I don't have the talent or equipment to print dials. However, as you mentioned, that sounds like the most cost effective route and perhaps the best way to get accurate fonts. I'm in the same boat you were with finding that insert and falling in love. Perhaps I should build something more "simple" like a 5512 or big crown while I learn more about dial printing.

I start researching and then run across something and change my mind. I need help deciding on what to build based on realistic (i.e. not impossible to find a decent-looking case, dial, bezel, insert), not crazy expensive (i.e. $1.5k ceiling, maybe). Here is what I keep going over: 6542 - I know @JoeyB made some awesome inserts and bezels, but don't know if any are still floating out there, nor how difficult it is to find a decent case and dial beyond that (Yuki?) 1675 - this was the GMT that I began loving before I found the bakelite insert of the 6542. 5513 - I wanted to build one and ended up buying a JMB-Cartel/Yuki 9401 that satisfied my desire 5512 Gilt - I keep convincing myself it's different enough of a no-date, but good gilt seems hard to find! 1680 - still my favorite sub, but there's a reason the last time I decided down that path, I ended up building an early 16610 instead. Monte Carlo - I've always loved these, but not enough to pull the trigger on several opportunities I've had for parts. I don't know what it is. I guess I just feel like I may not ever actually wear it. So what do you guys think? I know...it's personal preference. But I honestly need some help with direction. It's been quite some time since I built my 16610 and I have the itch again. My daughter is set to arrive in June, so I feel this may be my last chance to complete a build for a bit, so I want to make sure it's achievable! Thanks guys!

Agreed. I started on a Y3135. I paid for it in more ways than one. Thank goodness for the people here to help me with advice and replacement bits that flew across the room.

I'd have to look, but I think I got my Gevril for $800 years ago. I wanted a small, somewhat waterproof chrono and found this used with papers and box.

There were a few manufacturers that took this same path. The most popular is the Gevril Tribeca. I had not heard of the Telda, but I had found some other company that did the DD2020 to create a Paul Newman-esque piece. I'm convinced that they were all made by the same company. The latest to the trend is Steinhart, which took the DD2020 and put it in their Ocean One Vintage case to create a 42mm sapphire-crystaled Newman "homage".

The GoldenEye was one of the first watches I found that I lusted after. I liked the first version that they'd done that had a distressed leather strap kind of like the Black Bay. Great start, I'd say!

These come up a lot. It's missing the key complications we would need for a franken. I don't believe they are really usable for anything without it.
