coolfire Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 Well, it is sad to realise that the scammer was indeed a member here.
Nanuq Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 Indeed. This has not been a red letter day at RWG. So I propose a global toast to we few, we happy few, we Band of Brothers. To all: sk

redwatch Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 Wow....when I posted that the watch was Halo's, I was in no way implying that it was actually him! I can't believe that!!
KB Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 Ahh it was only a matter of time until Nanuq posted the feast of St. Crispian Ken
HauteHippie Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 "There passed a weary time. Each throat Was parched, and glazed each eye. A weary time! a weary time! How glazed each weary eye - When looking westward, I beheld A something in the sky. At first it seemed a little speck, And then it seemed a mist; It moved and moved, and took at last A certain shape, I wist. A speck, a mist, a shape, I wist! And still it neared and neared: As if it dodged a water-sprite, It plunged and tacked and veered. With throats unslaked, with black lips baked, We could nor laugh nor wail; Through utter drought all dumb we stood! I bit my arm, I sucked the blood, And cried, A sail! a sail! With throats unslaked, with black lips baked, Agape they heard me call: Gramercy! they for joy did grin, And all at once their breath drew in, As they were drinking all. See! see! (I cried) she tacks no more! Hither to work us weal; Without a breeze, without a tide, She steadies with upright keel!
Eton Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 Well, needless to say, I'm completely shocked as I'm assuming a lot of members are who have read this thread. Makes me sick to my stomach that somebody would do this, especially someone we "know" on the forum. Thank god it didn't sell!!!
KB Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 Oh it's-a lonesome away from your kindred and all By the campfire at night we'll hear the wild dingoes call But there's-a nothing so lonesome, morbid or drear Than to stand in the bar of a pub with no beer Now the publican's anxious for the quota to come And there's a far away look on the face of the bum The maid's gone all cranky and the cook's acting queer Oh what a terrible place is a pub with no beer Then the stockman rides up with his dry dusty throat He breasts up to the bar and pulls a wad from his coat But the smile on his face quickly turns to a sneer As the barman says sadly the pub's got no beer Then the swaggie comes in smothered in dust and flies He throws down his roll and rubs the sweat from his eyes But when he is told, he says what's this I hear I've trudged fifty flamin' miles to a pub with no beer Now there's a dog on the v'randa, for his master he waits But the boss is inside drinking wine with his mates He hurries for cover and he cringes in fear It's no place for a dog 'round a pub with no beer And old Billy the blacksmith, the first time in his life Why he's gone home cold sober to his darling wife He walks in the kitchen, she says you're early Bill dear But then he breaks down and tells her the pub's got no beer Oh it's hard to believe that there's customers still But the money's still tinkling in the old ancient till The wine buffs are happy and I know they're sincere When they say they don't care if the pub's got no beer So it's-a lonesome away from your kindred and all By the campfire at night we'll hear the wild dingoes call But there's-a nothing so lonesome, morbid or drear Than to stand in the bar of a pub with no beer Just thought I would add a little Aussie flavour. Ken
Nanuq Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 Some authentic Alaskan flavor! The Ballad of Blasphemous Bill BY ROBERT W. SERVICE I took a contract to bury the body of blasphemous Bill MacKie, Whenever, wherever or whatsoever the manner of death he die
Katerchen Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 THANKKS again @CHIMAN for the heads-up!! And to Admin-team! Haloarchive... wasnt that the guy whos house got burned down recently?? link Now his reputation also burned down! As Ubi posted before, i have the same opinion - selling and naming that it is what it is (rep/franken) is ok and selling making a bargain is also ok but dont pull this 40K number Gen-hoax on the bay!! Glad someone saw it!! Regards George
KB Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 George Halo said his house burned down and he also said he was in a car accident...maybe / maybe not Ken
redwatch Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 George Halo said his house burned down and he also said he was in a car accident...maybe / maybe not Ken I'm quite peeved to hear that KB. I can't believe it. I sent him my Narikaa PO in January to "try out". He never bought it. Never sent it back. When he finally re-appeared on the forum stating that his house burned down, I told him to keep it or sell it. I offered to let him keep the funds from the sale and he said he would send me the money because he didn't feel good about how long he kept the watch for. I saw it go up for sale. I know it sold. I never saw a penny from it.
KB Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 Well thats the point Red, everyone knows the history of this board and how we bailed out another (genuine) member in trouble. Halo might be telling the truth or he might have been fishing for a fund raising drive. Just a word for anyone out there who thinks they can take advantage of this community, Co Admin TwoTone actually visited the member we helped so we know his case was genuine. Ken
modelizer Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 What a sad story.. Unbelievable.. Kudos to ChiMan for finding the scam and to admin/ mods and everyone else involved in preventing it! Now let's all keep our eyes and ears open so it will not happen again..
highoeyazmuhudee Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 people often have reasons why they do what they do, be it necessity, greed, whats the other side of this story i wonder...
wan Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 Has anyone reported the watch as a replica to Ebay yet so the for sale ad will be pulled down? I think someone should. W
cornerstone Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 The listing has long since been pulled. As if trying to scam 40k wasn't bad enough, precipitating an outpouring of poetry is unforgivable...
gplracer Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 As if trying to scam 40k wasn't bad enough, precipitating an outpouring of poetry is unforgivable That is classic!

Ken This is a sorry state of affairs indeed. I'd drawn up a floorplan for Halo to rebuild his home to, never wanted payment for it, it was pro bono and an opportunity to me to spread my creative range. I haven't heard from him in quite a few weeks. Not sure now what might be truth, what might be lies, either way though, it could well be that his life's in the shitter at the moment... Sad state of affairs indeed
