  1. Some people really have a knack for putting together a franken, too. Others... not so much.

  2. Same as a hyper franken or ultra franken. It seems like in most cases it's one that has a gen crown and tube plus one other gen part, such as gen crystal. To me a franken is a watch that has a preponderance of genuine parts and is indistinguishable from genuiine to most knowledgeable WIS. I personally wish all sales threads using the words super, ultra, or hyper franken would be deleted immediately by the mods.

  3. I know this has been done to death, but really. I wish we could agree on calling the watch a franken if it has a gen dial or movement. Having a gen crown/tube or crystal and calling it a franken is like a putting lipstick on a pig and calling it a girl. nothing personal against the folks who're currently listing their "frankens" for sale, but i just feel so cheated when i click on a post only to find the so-called franken has nothing more than a gen crown/tube.

  6. Tony, sorry, I didn't mean to imply you had used bad or angry language, just I find asking a question in a simple, polite, factual way works best - I leave out (or rather go back over and re-read what I've written before I post or send it) anything emotional or subjective. What I posted before was a perfect example of what NOT to do! I didn't write it properly and you thought I was referring to something you had already done and (rightly) took offense. Written language can be such a pain in the butt sometimes!

  7. BP with out a doubt is the closest to gen I can find. I may buy one and tear it down and see just how well this thing is put together. I hope it is better then their subs!

  10. The watch looks nice, but that's not a gen dial- it's an MBW dial which is stamped Singer on the back. A gen Mark IV red sub dial looks like this one that Orchi posted on VRF. http://www.network54.com/Forum/539586/message/1217965375/1680--3.18mil+SN%2C+II.71%2C+Red+Sub%2C+non-hacking+cal.+1575--posted+by+Orchi It's marked Beyeler on the back, by the way. The problem on the MBW dial is the 'Submariner' is too tall as is the 660ft-200m. Also, the red is too red. Also, look at the 6's on 660 on Orchi's dial- just a slight gap in the middle- don't see that on the MBW dial. I realize the MKIV red dial is now referred to as the MKV on VRF sometimes. The first two were meters first and a few years ago someone came up with a third meters first, so that moved the two feet first dials out to 4 and 5.

  11. Hi all. first post but I've been reading up for a few days now and finding my way around since finding you. I'm glad I came across your site and doing some more research before pushing the button over at iparadisiac I have been the happy owner of a Gen Tag 2000 Classic, blue face, for 11 years now but have been an avid watch lover for more than I care to remember. Shame I haven't got the funds for all the lovely pieces out there. My Tag has been sent off for a service and a bit of a refurb so it's away for about 2 months, so they say. I had a hankering for something on my wrist other than my old Seiko so I went and had a Nato strap put onto a Rolex Sub rep that my mate sent to me from Hong Kong back in 2006 which looks okay and is still actually working... no idea of the details of it but t's certainly not to the standard I've seen around here! the pearl fell off the 2nd day I had it and the bracelet fell apart not long after that and it's been in my top drawer since then. Anyhooo... I was window shopping in the dealers and fancied a different rep... hence ending up on the scammers sites drooling over the picures and promises. I am SO glad I found this site! My wish list has been getting bigger by the day but I'm currently split between the Omega PO from Sead and Tag Aquaracer from Toro. I do love a Tag but the Omega looks absolutely mint. Anyway... see you around... I might stay here for a while :-)

  17. The gen has deeper rehaut . Here a comparison between my x gen z serie vs franken wm9 Gen is on the left. I think Sean's case rehaut is near gen.

  20. I've recently heard the 'H' has the better dial. I've had a look myself and the torpedo looks more prominent on the H than noob. I'm also after this model but its a tough choice. For me I'd prefer the better dial.
