  1. A few months ago I set out to build a PCG 5513 from '62-63 using a gen PCG mid case and cal 1530 movement: http://rwg.cc/topic/183778-pcg-5513-project-v1#comment-1465646 I have been using an old set of 5513/12 hands until I could find the period-correct hands; hands that had the flat hour hand rather than the curved ones Rolex started using since the mid '60's. To be frank, I've looked high and low and simply could not find them anywhere. Further, even if I did find them, I suspect they would have been extremely expensive. Well, I looked in my parts bin the other week and realized I had a spare set of gen hands I acquired some time ago. Luck would have it that the hands were flat!!!!! WTF. I guess i did something good in another life. This saved me a lot of time and money! Swapped them in this afternoon. Finally she is complete. Specs: Gen PCG 5513 midcase from 1963 ish Gen cal 1530 movement Gen 700 Twinlock crown/tube Gen flat hands Gen bezel assembly Gen kissing 50 "long 5" insert Gen T19 superdome 3,6,9 "silver gilt" dial by he-who-cannot-be-mentioned Gen 7206 bracelet

  3. Guys, I would be working with two other members to produce the correct spec datewheel for our ROO frankens and rep. Yes, we all know how ugly the JF ROO datewheels are so let's not bash it now. The goal is to supply accurate datewheels, literally scanned and copied from one removed from a gen I own, and then reproduced for the ETA2892 movement (franken) and A7750 movement (factory rep). The date font would be 1:1 and the magnified font size would be correct for both the LWO and A7750 variants. There would be no need for special cyclops to be used with these datewheels to achieve the correct magnification effect. The primary datewheel background color would be off white for the majority of the units and perhaps 10% in black with white numbers. The datewheel for the divers might also be produced. Please stay tuned. I will add pics as I go along. 25/4 Progress update 1: Scans of gen datewheel done and produced in different colors/backgrounds Update 2 May 2016: Transposing of the AP date fonts onto images of ETA datewheels and adjustments made for size, position and spacing completed. Vector image produced. Next update: To produce a prototype Omega datewheel on an ETA datewheel and do the necessary adjustment for size, spacing and positions

  4. Some notes on the build: List of ingredients: Cartel 1675 21j, folded oyster, not shown. Clark crystal Clark bezel ring Factory faded serif insert Flat case back M2M gilt chapter ring dial Raffles small GMT hand The case was thinned a bit but I didn't go too far into it because it would be pretty easy to mess it up. I marked out the profile of the PCGs and cut them in then re-polished using a small polishing wheel and green polishing compound. Took about an hour to get it all right. The cartel case lends itself to PCGs but with the case being chinky and the CGs being short, you wind up with PCGs that are a little chubby. Can't really be helped and it's really one of the many "that'll do" moments you'll have when building a 1675 under $500. Now you can go with a phong or yuki case, but you're approaching gen DJ money at that point. I've drilled the lug holes for the Rolex 2mm spring bars as well. The dial was positioned and held down with dial dots, and it was a bit touchy, but it's on firm now. The dial came from a m2m deal and I don't know where it originated. The plate is stamped with the Singer logo which is a nice touch. The dial was only a few microns larger than the case so it fit perfectly, nail-bitingly so. Hands were installed with my hand press, everything cases up. I tinted the lume to match the dial. The crystal fit like a dream, and the bezel set needed some sanding but after a little work I pressed it over the crystal, all snug. The insert is a pre-faded insert I got from eBay and it looks the part. I'm not a big fan of the bleached inserts because they always look modified. This one is lightly faded and retains that gen look. Pricey at $50, but to me it was worth it.

  7. Those new cartel vintages are really nice for the price and they can be greatly improved with some small mods. Here is mine with yuki dial, athaya 702 crown and gs crystal. Further need to drill the lug holes to 1.2mm and add a yuki insert with pearl and maybe darken the lume a little but kinda like the service look on this watch.

  12. Nice work Bart! Thanks for sharing. Do you do the lume by hand? Or you mask it first and then apply?

  13. Your dials are getting better and better. You will have to attack the crown guards to make them pointed.

  23. Guys we have been asking dealers to be more active here post their new offerings, this is a good thing not spam. I know most of you are modding stuff looking for parts, advise how to on builds but that doesn't pay the rent. We also need guys just looking to buy rep watches to increase members/ traffic, this does that.

  24. I will reiterate the fact that any 42 build is difficult and expensive, also what Kime said in the cheaper you go the harder it is ! my latest build was a pt case with rehaut taken back on the Lathe, I redrilled the crappy positioned lug holes and laser welded the case for better accuracy. Sure this isn't easily accessible for most, but I didn't want to spend $1k on a average caseset either tbh the pt case is ok and fits ETA well or clone np. i used a phong bezel assembly and a gen 116 plexi but a Tonnywatches insert all with minor fitment issues. Gen crown and tube fit with no retap also. i also did a build with a cartel gmt case and shaved off the cg's which worked out well and also fit plexi and bezel no problems... plus the gmt movement is ready to go !

  30. Here is a modified 16000 case to do a 1016 build. This case was in great original condition, so I did not touch the bezel or the caseback as recreating these perfectly flat surfaces is impossible with my gear.... So the work was on the midcase here: relocation of the lugholes, modification of the lugs shape, reshaping of the case into a tonneau shape on the crown side and careful erasing of the ref number only to leave place for a nice 1016 engraving under the original Registered Design. I am looking forward to see this watch completed !
