looking to build a budget BIG CROWN
highoeyazmuhudee replied to highoeyazmuhudee's topic in The Rolex Area
very nice. is the clarks not a good fit? i read this case has a retaining ring system what crown and tube is on there? and what movement did you use? thanks -
hello all the time has come for me to consider a big crown build dont get too excited, i want this to be a budget build. from what ive read there are 3 or so options for the budget conscious 1. silix case / rafflestime 2. tiger concept case 3. helenarou the silix case, i believe does not use a retaining ring so a crystal would sit to high and must be glued in. the tiger case seems to have an incorrect dial opening and is not compatible with the variety of rep dials available, the rest seems decent the helenarou is a tad more expensive and the low crown position is not something i like, but the brass bezel ring is nice. am i correct in choosing a tiger concept case for this build? i have heard it can fit a clarks T19, it would need lug holes drilled and for a rep dial to fit would need some rehaut milling. does anyone know the if the tube would need modding to fit a rep 8mm brevet crown? so far my shopping list looks like this. i dont know exactly how compatible each part is with this case Tiger case clarks t19 helenarou dial helenarou hands OR tiger hands eta 2472 or DG2813 pearl athiya 8mm crown 2mm bars NATO strap OR silix rivet stretch bracelet insert??? not sure what options exist here, might just keep the factory one. what would you guys use in your budget big crown builds and why? any and all ideas appreciated thanks!

Noob question who his the BP maker?
highoeyazmuhudee replied to scooterboy's topic in The Rolex Area
i thought the no date ceramics were all pretty inaccurate -
was minus (-30) Celsius here last week. i had a bought a tumi t-tech jacket which looks exactly like the canada goose chilliwack, (same pattern) genuine canadian coyote fur (very full and lush) and 70% goose down. it was just less than half the cost of the canada goose ($600+) and worked just as well. Canada goose is high fashion now owned by U.S Bain captial. all the reps i have seen of the canada goose ones are clearly fakes as the maple leaf stitching looks more like an asterisk, and the fur on the fakes are pretty gnarly looking, mangy even. some lab in canada tested the fake CG jackets and said they contained chicken feathers that were unwashed. i would avoid the rep CGs they are not decent. and just so you know any coyote fur from canada is wolf-coyote hybrid, i dont know if that changes your feelings towards the pelt or not. coyotes are considered pests round these parts, killing small dogs and injuring children.

all the rep ones are below standard. a gen strap for $600-$800 is considered a "good" price

Cartel 1675 & 5512; how to convert to low beat movement?
highoeyazmuhudee replied to gsiguy's topic in The Rolex Area
just get a 2846. if youre having it modded it sounds like you want something half decent, so go the little bit extra and get the swiss movement. yes the 2836 /2846 beat are night and day beside each other. 2836 to 2846 is a drop in solution. to DG you will have more issues and possibly have a misaligned date (1675) that will drive you nuts. -

WHICH 1680 Case? Yuki, Phong or NDTrading?
highoeyazmuhudee replied to btocamelo's topic in The Rolex Area
both the yuki and the phong case are stamped from a mold then hand shaped on a lathe by an unskilled worker who could care less about tolerances. the human touch is reflected in the price. Consistency from one piece to another will never be the same. e.g some cgs from one case to another will be different thicknesses and have a different profile yet have the same general shape. same for the beveled lugs, lug thickness and bottom of the CGs, even crown tube height varies. i havnt been impressed with the CGs ive seen on a lot of the yuki pieces, and there is a chance you could get a concave rehaut. $600 also does NOT include any engravings. the yuki case is about half the price of the phong, and the mbk is not an option unless you want to trim your dial or try and expand the dial opening in the case. you would also ahve to buy the whole mbk watch at $450+ now from what im hearing, and then still mod it (lug holes, crown tube, cgs, dial opening) at least $150 in added expenses. plus the mbk, youre not going to be using the movement or the inaccurate bracelet or insert. try yuki, see what you get, if youre unsatisfied, return it. biggest problem with both cases; you'll usually get a case like this (instant tell the second someone sees the inverse) the $1250 phong case \ instead of this (a GEN 1680 case) thats a huge reveal if youre going for accuracy and if youre paying the big bucks to still have errors like this. -
