I wish they would rep the new Breitling Skyland...
frankt replied to rower's topic in The Breitling Area
Why do we need ANOTHER round, chunky, overly busy dialed, 3 register Breit...???...From 10 feet away, they ALL look alike to me...An SOSF, and a gold EVO on a black strap is all the Breits I'll need in my watch drawer...But that's just me... The reality of the situation is: this is a watch with substantial appeal to a very narrow spectrum of collectors, and probably won't get repped until it becomes popular enough among the "great unwashed" to be economically produced in sufficient numbers... Don't hold your breath!! -
Well....from the looks of his grimy hands...He needs a pair of rubber gloves for a start!!...
-
My Rep YG one is stamped clearly, like that, but in French... and it curves rather than "angles" like that...It came on an evo....earlier model...

My SR-71 story...(not watch related): In early 1965, I was aboard a US Navy aircraft carrier in the Gulf of Tonkin, I was monitoring a specialized radar set designed primarily as an altitude finder. I unbelievably(at the time), started tracking 2 targets at 80,000 ft, orbiting at 1800 knots!!..Now understand this: at that time, NOTHING(that we knew of!!) flew that high that fast!!...I immediately notified the command structure about this, and suddenly found myself surrounded by the entire Admirals staff, and several high ranking officers, watching my radar screen in disbelief!...We tracked these "bogeys" for @ an hour before they disappeared in an easterly direction.. Most of us were at the time convinced we had actually tracked a pair of UFO's, but we were instructed by the Pentagon to log the incident as an "anomoly of the radar equipment"....It wasn't until @ 5 yrs ago that the info on the first test flights of the "Blackbird" was declassified, and it was noted that there was extreme consternation that one of our Naval ships had been able to easily track their flight off the coast of China!! Substantial design modifications were instituted to clean up the previously assumed effective radar masking configuration...And it was ME that first tracked the "Blackbird"!!

If you're lazy (like me!!) you can call Josh at PC, and get one of these...: Cheaper than you could imagine!!...But you're on your own for that strap!!...LOL

Issues: A7750 movement releasing the crown and re-locking it
frankt replied to munsterh's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
Pull the crown out to the time adjustment position, remove the stem, reinsert to the same position, secure the stem...sometimes it takes a couple of tries to get it just right....Sometimes you get lucky!!..You're working with a multi- position keyless works, that was assembled by a person who most likely has no idea what he is building, in a dingy shop outside a rice paddy somewhere where rats are a delacasy!!...Proceed accordingly !!! -
I'm with "Woody" on this!! Withall the 99.9% reps available, I would NEVER buy a genuine that was repped!! Breitling makes a lot of watches that are not...Go for one of those instead...And get a nice BCE rep too!!
-
My black dial full gold stick markers definitely has the concentric rings, but it isn't the Ultimate either, in that it is lacking that pesky minute tick next to 10 on the 12:00 subdial...Oh well in the long run, it's just anther rep that I'll soon tire of just like all the rest, and either trade or make into a "drawer queen"...!! on the other hand though....I've has the same WIFE for over 40 yrs!!

There seem to be several variables available, with "P/Clones" alone, listing 55 different iterations!! Costing from $228. shipped, to over $1000. for the swiss movement model.. The variations include: datewheels, AR coating(1 or 2 sided), Slightly flawed dials(missing a min marker next to 10 in the 12:00 subdial), and caseback numbering(some with ser # 2073888, and some variable)...BTW All I have seen carry the "A13356" model designation, which is, IIRC, only correct in the all SS models.. I have seen offerings from most of our dealers, and the more you see the more confused you'll become, since there seems to be a kind of "mix and match" assortment of some flaws, all the flaws, or no flaws!!... Just find one you like and go for it!!...NOBODY on the planet knows all the different variations on this watch, genuine or replica!!!...Enjoy it...And happy new year to all..!!!...Frank

silly questions about the lifespan of movements
frankt replied to kenmasters's topic in General Discussion
I have dozens of watches 40, 50, or even 60 yrs old that have gone DECADES without servicing, that still run well...age means nothing........sometimes...I wish my body held up as well as some of those watches!! -
Great!!...Now all I need is a base movement, dial and hands to build an 055 when I get tired of the 036...BTW...I put the 036 display caseback onto my 192....Seems such a shame to hide that pretty ST-19 movement!!
-
Well...you've solved a mystery for me!!....I recently bought a solid caseback for my 036, and it has the exact same markings!!...I looked up the #'s on Google, and it is correct for the 055, but according to the info I saw, the 055 should have a display back, not a solid one...Oh well...who cares!!...I love your 055 AND my 036...The tobacco colored dial really makes the watch stand out!!...Wear it in good health!!
-
Try "Wrights" silver polish....I have been using it for years on watch cases!!
-
I have owned both...Really not a lot of difference...Oddly The one from Josh(the dropshipped one) arrived in perfect condition while the one from Neil arrived with the bezel insert off, and showing a visible ding on the case...I'm sure it was fine when shipped, but once it hits transit, anything can happen...The bottom line is: It really doesn't matter which one you get...Either way you'll have a nice strong Sub that would fool 99.78% of the population of the planet...For @ $100.!! What more could you ask for...???? BTW...I never even mentioned the problem to Neil....I just ground out the ding, and reglued the insert...And wore it for @ a year before I sold it....Why bother a guy over a $100.00 watch, and get involved in reshipping it back and forth to the other side of the planet through 2 sets of customs...I knew it wasn't his fault, and I also knew he'd make it right, but why bother if it's something you can easily fix yourself..???
-
Sad to say....It looks like the early slow beat 7750 POS movement that has been the cause of much grief among the folks that have owned them ....You might get lucky and find someone to give it a good oiling, that would probably rectify the problem, since running very fast is a symptom of reduced amplitude resulting from a lack of lubrication...A common fault with these movements....Good luck!!

Are you a 'classic' watch person, or a 'modern' enthusiast?
frankt replied to mezzanine's topic in General Discussion
I used to like Rolex styles, now I'm only buying Panerais...."You know...you grow"... -
It never fails to amaze me when folks try to second guess the experts!!...The whole "overwound" myth has been around so long that it has become folklore...I applaud your patience The Zigmeister!!...And thank you for your sage advice....

June 9, 1941....You do the math !!... ;) ...Yeah...I'm old...but I'm smart!!.... :p
-
Nice watch...but beware of "franken's" this is the most often "diddled with" Omega of all time!!...
-
Have you considered therapy...???? :p
-
Well the logic differs in that : There was only one MonaLisa, and she wasn't mass produced in a 20th century Swiss watch factory!!.. while the early Rolex chrono's are certainly well made classics, only a fool would spend $60,000.00 on @ $2000.00 worth of metal pieces fastened together!!... There will always only be ONE Mona Lisa...But it wouldn't be impossible for Rolex to begin making those watches again...not simple granted, but not impossible!! ;)

Help - what can I do about this PAM212 Problem!?
frankt replied to Tom's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
And a good solution!!...Plastic crystals are highly underrated these days!!...Scratch it...??? you can buff it out in a jiffy!...try that with mineral!!...And the same mishaps that might scratch a decent acrylic crystal will often shatter the "Holy Grail" sapphire ones!! -
With all due respect The Zigmeister....Do you recommend purchase of these movements, which you acknowledge to be faulty..???...I realize they aren't really a problem for you, but for the ordinary guy who just wants a trouble free watch, they would seem to be "Red Flag" items to me!!
-
You could try the "Chinese rep factory" solution: A spray can of lightly blue tinted, clear, spray lacquer...
-
Simple solution...Learn to live without AR coated crystals....Or if you ABSOLUTELY MUST have one....buy a genuine!! I NEVER have any AR issues, simply because I never bother buying it on any reps....And guess what....I can STILL tell what time it is...even in direct sunlight!!! This whole AR "fetish" that as cropped up in the past year or so is a constant source of amusement to me... We used to worry that the crown etching on our crystals was msaligned, or that our winding crown had too many splines, and a whole litany of irrelevant drivel...now it's AR ..ROTFLMAO!! ;)
