  1. If it would have a reliable correct hand stack movement with gen like GMT function I'd buy one in a heartbeat.
  2. Looks like it is steaming up from inside, any water issues lately?
  3. wow, seems to be a huge step forward compared to older DSN watches!
  4. I tend to believe that UV helps to have a bright white on a Tritium watch. Usually the dark brown watches are those drawer finds that spent 20 years in the dark...
  5. Porsche Design actually is not as car related as one might think. The designer who founded Porsche Design came from the Porsche family but the business itself is complete separated from the car manufacturer Porsche. At least here in Germany Porsche Design is mostly famous for their sunglasses followed by bags and leather goods, then the watches. You can see them quite a lot here, I know a lot of guys running around with a Porsche Design watch without ever having driven a Porsche. It's just another watch from a cool brand and in terms of price, quality and typical customer comparable to any Breitling, Omega and Panerai. The big difference is: Porsche Design = Cool designer stuff / Porsche Driver's Selection = Car merchandise EDITh says that mbjoer was quicker with the same intention
  6. With the gen worldtimer you choose the time zone by turning the crown at 2. When you push the button in the crown at two the hour hand will jump to the appropriate time in the time zone you dialed in. So image you started your business trip in London and are on your way to Los Angeles. Turn the crown at two until you find LAX, it will show 8 hours time difference in the little readout at 9. Push the button at two and the hour hand will jump 8 hours back and the watch shows the time in Los Angeles. Turn the crown at two to LON again to see what time it is at home... IMO this is the coolest GMT setup of all times. Unfortunately the function is not replicated in this watch according to Josh (sent him an email about that...).
  7. I've seen a lot of straps with at least one fixed keeper, so just slipping them of won't work in some cases.
  8. The difference in real life is much more significant than it is in pictures. With C1 on the hands it seems to have the right color whereas the C3 is a mismatch. At least my hands were brighter in the dark than the dial, too. With C1 you'll lose a little of the glow, but it will match the dial in color in both day and night.
  9. Looking at this beauty I have to say that the current Aquatimers clearly are a step back. This one is something of it's own, it is truly special. The current Aquatimer is just another Diver like any other Breitling, too.
  10. The genuine hands on the Seamaster 300 were relumed in Tritec C1 to match the dial. Originally the hands were C3 but IMO it looks stupid with a C1 dial...
  11. It shouldn't have keepers to work with an Omega deployment buckle...
  12. A few years ago when the 4th gen was available I made up a calculation for a Planet Ocean Franken and it led me directly into buying a gen. With the parts listed above it is something like $850 just for gen parts + the base watch $300 = $1150 bucks. To make it a really good franken you'll need gen bracelet end links and clasp (another 254 bucks) or a gen rubber strap with buckle (240 bucks). So you'll end up in the $1400 range, where you can put $500 on top and get a used gen, that will hold its value better and will have a better movement. But of course - the fun of a franken project has to be considered too....
  13. Congrats... this is one of the most beautiful seamasters ever in my opinion
  14. Both OPII and OPXXIX are running at 21600 bph, only difference is the missing COSC certification for OPXXIX.
  15. As DB2 and I were in discussion about our ongoing Seamaster 300 builds I'll just chime in and give you some pics of my project: The movement is a cal. 565 not sourced from the usual suspects but from a a real Seamaster 300 sold in 1969 in France according to Omega's vintage watch archive in Biel (Switzerland), which conveniently is just one and a half ours from where I spend 65% of my time (the rest is Westcoast US). So this is not a Franken using genuine spare parts, it is a full genuine Seamaster 300 which will be serviceable at Omega at any time as the movement number belongs to a Seamaster 300. It basically is a full restoration of a destroyed Seamaster 300. The movement got a full overhaul including replacement of some parts. I do all work on my watches myself if time allows. Between school and university I spent four years with watchmaking training and working as a watchmaker for a company producing movement plates for some of the big names in watchmaking. First was of course careful disassembly, cleaning and inspection of all parts (date mechanism and balance already reassembled): After careful inspection I decided that pallet, escape wheel, friction spring, seconds wheel, the Incabloc jewels and springs, click spring (not pictured) and the main spring needed replacement: After spending in total about 335 USD on genuine Omega movement spare parts and assembly with new dial and hands (both Superluminova) it looked like this: Together with it's newer genuine brother Planet Ocean: And with the rest of the parts waiting for final assembly: The case is the only missing part. According to EMS tracking it should be here within the next few days In total I spent about 1700 USD so far, not including my work and not including the movement. In total it will come out somewhere around $2k, but it will be a perfectly restored genuine Seamaster 300 with movement number and Omega archive extract dating it to 1969
  16. The gens are stamped (!) and then machined.
  17. Bigger of course ... a lot bigger! In a mold this small you will have at least 4% shrinking during cool down period and I highly recommend to produce a case with at leas 0.5mm grinding allowance. You won't get sharp edges out of the mold and you need a sufficient grinding allowance to give the case a real 1:1 shape.
  18. They won't be able to do better because of the fairly new and innovative escapement of the pendulum. I doubt that we see this repped!
  19. Very differentiated statement. As if other countries soldiers are or were different...
  20. You know ... I still have a white dial for sale, Joerg... Maybe Flex is willing to sell his movement...
  21. How is the lume? The gen has wonderful blue lume on hands and dial..
  22. before touching the mentioned arms 1 and 2 the adjuster (the indicator thing arm on the balance bridge that is only attached to the balance jewel cap) should be moved to the middle of its adjusting range (which is limited by the recess the adjuster arm is located in).
  23. For the new constellations the rep makers now even have an 8500 look-a-like rotor. Hopefully we'll see both Aqua Terra and Planet Ocean with this movement.
  24. Yukis answer basically said that they tried and it did not work but they plan to do something in future... Let's see what happens.
