  1. Late to the party but thought I would add my 2 cents anyway. I have actually started thinking about doing the same thing. I am in a very similar circumstance when it comes to the collection. Also, I find myself on the fence in regards to what to do. It is not like it is a pressing issue however so I figure I can sleep on it for a while. There are arguments on both sides variety vs. value etc. In the end you have to do what is best for you so if the feeling is strong enough then you should just do it. Besides if after you clear the box and are not satisfied you can always start again. Looking, searching and collecting is half the fun anyway
  2. Nice one. Awesome to find a gen dial. I could never find one before so I had the rep dial relumed. Looks almost as good. Starting now to see some gen dial pop up on the bay. Looking forward to seeing it assembled.
  3. I have had the same experience. Dealing with Bob directly he has always been helpful for me.
  4. Beautiful dial. Kind of like virgin snow on the top of a mountain. So crisp looking.
  5. No chit!?! I thought that name looked familiar. I suppose my memory may be wrong but when I first saw your username I thought I had seen it before. I used the handle MadMax back then. Tried to use it on the fora but unfortunately taken. I miss Quake Not to side track the thread but did you ever play the quake mod UT2?
  6. Actually looks OK on you if you ask me. Your son on the other hand...will take some time
  7. What's also neat about that structure is when they made it they all started out as one large plate (like the full or 3/4 plate designs) and then were cut up to create the three separate bridges. Very lovely piece. The dial inlay, as you mentioned, is quite something. The overall condition is incredible.
  8. I recently received a book on the History of American Watchmaking. This one: Amazon Listing A lot of interesting information in there. For starters I learned that it was in fact the American companies that revolutionized the manufacture of precision time pieces and standardized parts and the Swiss followed suit years after the fact. Anyway, the structure of you piece looked familiar. Must have read about it in the book.
  9. I can help too if need be. I have been meaning to order some parts anyway.
  10. Very nice! The detail on these old pocket watches is incredible. Especially when you consider many of them are done by hand. Any story behind this one?
  11. Well I wish I could say mine was as deep and interesting as the rest of yours, however it just is not the case. Mine stems back from when I first tried to register on fleabay years ago and everything I could think of that I liked and had some meaning for me was taken. So I floundered and came up with a modification to my last name like in that old "makin' copies" SNL sketch. (lame example below since actual sketch not avail). Sometimes I wish I could go back and change my username as now I am sure I could come up with better but it is what it is. So now I almost automatically use this since when I try other they are always gone. As for my avatar I really liked the Matrix trilogy and thought the concept of reality being just a matter of perception and knowledge was appropriate for a replica watch forum. So at first I had this as an avatar. But then I saw another member had used the same avatar generator to achieve the same look so I then changed it to what I have now. While Morpheus is my favorite character from the movies I could not find any good gifs. So this one I really liked and was a good second.
  12. Couldn't agree more. Truly are the fuel of life. Sorry to hear about your friend BT. Lost my best friend when we were in our 20's in University. One day all good. The next he had some pain in his back. Pushed through finals and went our ways for the summer. Within a week he could no longer move his legs. Then a few weeks later fell to the cancer that was causing the problems. Tough fighter but sadly a battle that could not be won. Time will pass and things will get better but we never forget.
  13. Never said it was incorrect. Nor am I suggesting that it is not a creative solution. Just throwing it out there as a possible evolution to a great idea.
  14. Yup. Looks like a gen reduced to me. Nice piece.
  15. Interesting trial. Do you suppose it might be better to try and elongate the existing hole instead of making it bigger all around? That way you are only dealing with top to bottom play and not side to side. I know it is trickier to do but if you used and end mill instead of a drill bit it might work. Either way I am interested to see what happens. Curious about the durability of that metal epoxy.
  16. WOW! I would have to agree with you
  17. Hmmm tough to say which is better Nice toys you have there Sql. If I were in your shoes I would have showed off too.
  18. Not bad. Agree with LHOOQ though. His shots always look very soap opera like.....not that I watch those
  19. "Just in case" If I had a nickel for every time I heard that Nice piece J.
  20. Best of luck finishing up your studies gents! Like already said, it doesn't matter what you look like on the outside, It's whats inside that counts
  21. I think before anyone can comment, more information would be required. Who, where, when, etc?
  22. Impressive review! Thanks for preparing and sharing with us. The more I see this new model the more I like it. Looks like a great replication. Enjoy!
