The theory is sound. Only thing left to do is try. Aside from those you mentioned I have seen a few sellers on fleabay that routinely have movements for sale for decent prices. Although I have not bought from them so I cannot say for sure if they are good or not. I got a nice new 2824 from Ofrei but I did it when I needed a bunch of other things too. Bob is very helpful. Let us know how it works out.
I have the same SOH project on the go. Just waiting for the Zigmeister to open up shop again for the lume work. If you find you don't like the gen mesh let me know. I'd pick it up in a heartbeat
I also have a ExpII with a movement that needs service and a dial that needs some touch up work. Also on the bench is a Milgauss that needs a complete case & bracelet refinish plus a movement service.
Overall not too many on the go but my time is limited so it is difficult to make progress. That white TT BCE is going to look great!
Depending on how you mount the movement I can't see how the rehaut would be affected. If you use the same spacer from the 2836 to align the stem with the tube then the effect would be that the hands are closer to the dial. Alternatively if you keep the same spacer on the 2824 the effect would be misalignment of the stem in the tube. In either case I can't see how the movement would pull the rehaut away from the crystal. I suppose if the movement clamps somehow kept the position of the movement fixed within the case then I can see. But my impression of the movement case clamps was that they put pressure against the movement towards the case. Although I suppose this is strongly related to the shape of the clamps. Do you suppose that in the case of the 2824 the stem is actually pulling the movement/dial assembly away from the crystal?
It actually makes more sense that the thickness difference is on the front side since the primary difference between the two movements is the day wheel. Probably they need just a hair more clearance on the front to clear the day jumper.
Great comparison! The SA ProII really looks the biz. Generally I agree with you bracletaholics especially when it comes to Breitling. However, I do have a weakness for the Ocean Racer. It looks best on certain models like the SOH.
Too fuzzy to tell. Need clear pics of the balance jewel setting to tell for sure. What number is on the movement? It is stamped just below the balance wheel.
Welcome. Funny enough the UPO is what brought me here too originally.
Good to see you are jumping right in to try stuff out. Good idea to try things on watches you probably don't care too much about.
You will probably satisfy your dream reps list fairly quickly around here. Enjoy!
