  1. Come on. Who's foolin who? Both the MBW version and this new 'King' version are plenty close enuf. I wear the MBW rep model as a daily beater, and I must say it is a great watch....all about fit and feel, isn't it???? The Aquanaut is a great piece. Is the idea here to try and FOOL somebody??? 'Rep is just rep' a wise man once said. The best made rep will never be gen. If you like it, buy it.
  2. Blade Runner, regardless of which 'cut' you see is not only a great Sci Fi film...it is without doubt one of the best films ever made. IMO. In my case I feel that it is my favorite film, period. I have probably watched it more than a dozen times, am familiar with every scene, and never grow tired of it. In the last few years there has been only one other film(s) that I have the same feeling about, and that would be the Bourne series. Those too, I never grow tired of watching. Go figure. Casablanca...Gone with the Wind...Citizen Kane...forget about it.
  3. I must agree that the most comfortable deployment clasp out there has to be the Omega that fits the vintage rubber strap I wear on my 2254.50. Also this clasp gives me the largest degree of flexibility as far as adjustment on the wrist than any other I can think of. A truley brillant design IMO. I am also fond of the SS clasp on my Ocean Racer strap on my BSO Heritage. Both of these deployments are VERY comfortable. Another that I like for super light weight and comfort is the deployment clasp on my PP Aquanaut. That one (Not pictured) is super small in comparison to these two, and very lightweight as well. In fact the whole outfit on the Aquanaut is superlightweight and extremely comfortable. Watch case, rubber strap, AND deployment. In fact rubber straps for weight and comfort are pretty much my favorite feel and fit. Which I guess, the reason I wear these three watches so much more regularly than many of my SS bracelet equipped watches.
  4. These three are top of the list for the true daily beaters. This 2254.50 Seamaster Pro with gen hands, gen rubber strap/ssdeployment is pretty much daily wear. Rubber straps appeal to me quite a bit. My Jumbo PP Aquanaut actually gets more compliments on looks that almost any other. Super light weight on the wrist. It too, gets a lot of wrist time on a regular basis. And of course my EL V1 #1 IWC Pilot Chrono competes with these guys on a pretty normal rotation. Funny how so many of my collection just sits and waits for attention. These three pieces to me, are real work horses and are appropriate wear in so many situations. Mostly they are hearty pieces that can take the occasional knock. Great daily wear watches.
  5. Make that plus (+)2. The membership on this forum is second to NONE. I too, hope that things get better FAST. In the meantime at least you have this place to call HOME. All the best.
  6. For me the whole rep thing is the ability to hold and wear a watch that I admire. Were I to make the decision that I wanted to wear this watch for awhile, then the opportunity to own it as rep would positively influence the decision to purchase the gen. IMO the difference between rep and gen is finish as well as the movement. Unfortunately for me personally...the watches the have appealed to me most, are the gens that I could never afford, or not be able to justify to purchase from a financial aspect alone. My favorite watches are my PP Nautilus, and my PP Aquanaut. I will never be able to afford either of these gen watches. I have recently sold 1/2 of my collection because in purchasing many reps I have been able to determine which watches worked for me. IF I was a rich guy, I would own a half dozen gens, instead of two dozen reps.
  7. Still stuck on this beauty for a few more days. PP Aquanaut (Jumbo) on factory rubber.
  8. My first thought...Case is Wayyyy to thick. What's up with that. I own this watch and the case is 12.5mm. Your photo makes the case look like 18 to 20mm.
  9. Used to be that you bought watches from a dealer who gave a [censored]. For the most part in the past few years that attitude from many of our recommended dealers has become a thing of the past. My feeling is that the main reason for this is because the rep market has exploded. Many of our 'trusted' dealers have so many orders that it has become impossible for most of them to have any kind of quality control. MOST dealers are drop shippers, and NEVER see, much less' inspect the product they sell. What can we expect? Additionally, in the not so distant past most of the finest reps were made in Taiwan, not 'China'. These days few if any reps are made in TW. That being the case, it is just another reason that so many of the current reps available are not well made. Some are of course, but most are not. Buy from the dealer who does not drop ship and you will get a much better quality product, period. 5 or 6 years ago MANY reps were wearable (Not perfect mind you) but definitely wearable, out of the box. That is no longer the case. Many of us who used to be collectors are now sending the watches we care about out for modding, as well as servicing, in order to bring today's product up to par. I will say that the last two 300.00 reps I have purchased have been CRAP. IMO actually unwearable. Garbage. It has not always been the case with a rep that cost that amount of money. In fact 5 or 6 years ago many 100.00 to 300.00 reps were GREAT watches quality wise. Find a dealer who guarantees his product. And even more important, a dealer who actually gives a [censored] about what he sells. Sending a watch back to China to be fixed, much less replaced (with something that is equally bad) is an effort in futility. Recently I purchased my first rep in over a year...after receiving it I contacted my dealer, complained about the quality, and was told, oh well try again next time perhaps the next will be better. After spending over 200.00 for it (non eta), I GAVE the watch away for parts. Most probably I will never buy another rep, certainly not from ANY of the China dropshippers who frequent our rep forums. Waaaaaa.
  10. Well. This is obviously not your first review. Very nice. Thank you. There is a good reason that you are considered 'The Man' around here.
  11. DLG is now a proud Oregonian. And speaking of old timers...isn't Dani...Norge?
  12. My friend PC, from Oslo, asked me if I new what the difference was between a Norwegian and a Swede ...? The answer... Swede's have good neighbor's. Norge..Norge...Norge !!!!!!!!!
  13. Perpetual??? No way, the alarm chrono is way more cool.
  14. Without a doubt...one of the finest photo posts EVER. What a beautiful testimony to fine wristwatches...and fine photos of them. REALLY!!!! Beautiful.
  15. Absolutely Stunning watch. With Gen movement, and this perfect dial could be the BEST rep ever. Wear it well.
  16. Congratulations on your wedding. Manhanttan is where its at. Try Wempe, on 5th Ave. for the nicest watch shop in the entire world. My Omega 2254 is my favorite watch. The Ti version in your post is beautiful. Hope you got your wife a new Cartier. All the best.
  17. IMO this is SEXY...and COOL.
  18. I purchased this rep from local dealers. There are 3 versions currently available. The date wheel version is totally incorrect, because like many other rep 'date' watches, the window is WAYYY too far left on the dial. Not even close to the gens. There are gens that have both a black and a white date wheel. both are correct, although I prefer black. The black version however, is not available thru any of our dealers here. The no date version that I purchased is called the BIG Triangle version, and was current in the mid 60's. Ubi's watch has no triangle at 12:00, but rather numbers at 12,3,6,and 9. His particular watch dial is also correct, and although the 'Big Triangle' is more rare than the model with numbers on the dial, many feel that the BIG and LITTLE triangle models are a bit DIAL HEAVY. I ordered this watch because I was interested in future modding possibilities. However as Ubi states in his comparison, IMO this watch has so many flaws about it, it was not worth throwing good money after bad. Like others here I have been searching for over a year for genuine vintage 300. Prices vary for 1200.00 up to 2400.00. I have seen them advertised on quite a few gen forums as well as ebay. Most are not as nice as Ubi's, and there are a LOT of Fakes out there. (Can you believe that?). Watchco is your best bet, but as stated, Watchco vintage pieces are primarily pieces that are put together with available gen parts, and look like it. The best thing about this rep model are the hands. I guess that is why Ubi was willing to use them in his beautiful 'Franken'. Caveat Emptor.
  19. Hey Gran, NICE avatar there my man. A few Classics in that one. DLG, Neo, Klink...Rya, where is the shot of Jetmid?
  20. Nice photos boys. Second rep I ever bought compliments of Eddie Lee. This 112F was the first Pam ever offered at TRC back in the day. It wears a variety of straps, but I like it best on the rubber, after all it was originally a dive watch.
  21. The date window is located too far towards the middle of the dial on the rep. Switching the dial probably will not guarantee that the date wheel will be centered correctly in the gen dial. The bracelet your looking at can certainly be adjusted at the clasp to fit most wrist sizes.
  22. I agree. Slow but sure. To me the biggest common problem in most rotating bezel reps, is the MISALIGNMENT of the bezel to dial. It can be fixed as Nanug explains, but be careful not to damage the bezel in removing it, and its all good.
  23. My point is NOT to degrade the quality of the rep dial by any means. My point is simply to say that the genuine Patek dials are UNREAL when it comes to quality of construction and fabrication techniques. The gen Nautilus dials are incredible. Looks like finished Jade in many cases. The texture and the play of light on the color of the dials is incredible. Black looks both gray and bronze at the same time and the light plays off the dials in a way that a printed of cast dial never could. Again, I am not bad mouthing the rep dials, but only pointing out the the real deal is as good as it gets in fine swiss watches. When paying 300-500.00 for a rep, one certainaly can not expect the same quality as a 20,000.00 gen. Just head into a local AD that carries Rolex, Blancpain, JC, or Patek, and see for yourself. That being said, I would say too that some of the less expensive gen watches like Omega, Panerai, Breitling, etc., have not the quality finishes as the more exotic gens. My rep Omega Seamaster 300 Pro with textured 'Wave' dial looks just as good, for all intents and purposes, as the gen dial...you get what you pay for.
  24. I have to agree that the Roman dial Jumbo is a beautiful watch. I own and love the MBW version of the 5717, and it is my favorite rep. However, I have handled the genuine article in both of these models, and although I agree that the reps are VERY nice, I can assure you that they pale in comparison to the gen. The dial on the gen Nautilus is far more detailed and attractive to the eye than any of the rep models currently available. In general I find that this is the case in the vast majority of the really expensive gens. Easy to understand, considering the genunine Nautilus's sell for over 20,000.00.
