  1. Very nice take on the traditional Bund, E. That's one thick watch!
  2. Thanks to the Admin, and thanks to The Zigmeister for great work on two of my best pieces. That was a tough couple of weeks without them! And thanks to all Dads! Happy Father's Day!
  3. Time for another update. Last week, I sent the Speedmaster back to Zigmeister for a full service. It returned to me yesterday, and keeping very good time. Additionally, I asked Zig for a bit of bracelet work. First, I asked him to round the middle edge of each modded endlink. If you look at photos from before, you'll see that my old watchsmith had left hard, perpendicular edges. Fortunately, someone had recently auctioned off a a pair of '6' endlinks (winning bid: $1325!) and had taken very good photos for the listing. These formed the bulk of the reference material I sent to Zig. After rounding the edges, he refinished the endlinks again: Speaking of ridiculously high parts prices, a ref. 7077 bracelet (correct for the CK2915) recently sold for $3350. As mentioned in the OP, my bracelet is a later 1039. It's in decent condition, but it bothered me how the new-style Omega logo on the clasp didn't match the pinched Omegas found elsewhere on the watch. It bothered me, but not to the tune of $3350. What to do? Several months ago, I won an auction for a clasp from a 7912 bracelet. It's longer than the 7077's clasp, but it looks very similar. Unfortunately, the 7912 clasp wasn't a perfect fit with the 1039 hardware, but it was good enough. I asked Zig to refinish the clasp to match the franken-bracelet: And that's where Speedmaster One is today. I'm glad to have it back!
  4. In other news... WSJ Contributing Watch Editor does not know the meaning of the word "important"! It's possibly the most important watch of 2013 for all those fans of Deep Space 9 and haute horlogerie--which is a hell of a tiny sliver in a Venn diagram.
  5. DW's Daytona bracelets are pretty terrible. Most people can't even get past that... thing on the outer clasp (Jellyfish? Sputnik?). Similarly, my experience with pre-assembled DW watches has not been good.
  6. Tremendous, bonesey! I'm rather partial to rubber, too: Also, here's another rusty-handed example that served as a model for Chi when he worked on my 5512:
  7. Expect to pay anywhere between $1500-1800 once the dust settles. That's a lot of interested bidders with almost 6 days to go.
  8. With this InGod dial, we're in much better shape now than just a few months ago. Maybe once all of those home-brew pad-printing projects start coming good...
  9. I have a bunch of DW 6263 bezels on which the inserts are NOT glued, and are easily removed. Unfortunately, they're all steel. Oh, DW, you are a tricky one...
  10. Went for a swim this afternoon, so I wore a Sub. Makes sense.
  11. If you showed up with that combo at my fancy vintage Rolex soiree, EMM, I would immediately come down with an awful case of the vapors and retire to my fainting couch.
  12. Hoo boy... You have my sympathies, watchman. I eventually got most of my issues with DW sorted out, but it took the better part of a year, and my hole was only several hundred dollars deep.
  13. Spectacular, cc, and it doesn't hurt to have that Sub of yours as the subject!
  14. It's not the old Vietnamese/Yuki case, but it's an improvement over the previous "Vintage SM300" from the cartel. The separation between the bezel edge and the thinner lugs is good, as is the white-painted sweep hand. However, the overly-simple shape of the lugs is very different from the gen in profile, and I doubt whether you can fit any genuine Omega pieces onto this rep. That said, the original cartel rep was pretty convincing when viewed head-on, and this one is even moreso. Not a "super-rep", but reasonably good! I'd like to see what good modders could do to the mid-case.
  15. When I see that dial, Hike, it ALMOST makes me want to deal with DW again! Beautiful.
  16. Do post detailed photos of the case. In the past, guys like Gimme and janeto72 have identified 3-4 distinct types of Phong cases. (One theory was that Phong used a different case depending on the serial number you specified, but I'm not so sure about that.) Some of these cases are objectively superior replications than the others.
  17. I'm very certain that this is a DW case, based on everything I can see (crystal, handset, dial, bezel... everything). The movement is most likely NOT gen Tudor. If the seller meant "genuine Valjoux", then that's an odd thing to point out, because there are no Asian V7734 movements. I also don't believe that the pushers or the crown are gen, either. Genuine Tudor Monte Carlo pushers are some of the rarest parts you could look for, and would probably sell for more than you paid for this watch. As for the crown, that's supposed to be a 7mm Twinlock (i.e. a 24-700-0), and it looks too fat to be one. Crown and pushers appear to be DW units, too. The good news is that it still looks like a really good watch. Also, the caseback looks like it was modded well.
