  1. Quite a few years ago I ordered a Rolex sub rep for an acquaintance and when I opened the package from China there was a Reserve du Marche inside. I was not familiar with this model of JLC (only knew the reversos) but I instantly fell in love. Kept the watch and had to re-order another sub. Still love the watch - mate turned out to be a bit of a w*nker :animal_rooster:

  2. Interesting reading. For me its all bout aesthetics. I have a gen Omega Speedmaster Pro. Its busy but I love it. Everything is there for a reason. I have a rep Rolex Daytona 6263. It's beautiful. As is my (wifes) Gen 1952 Oyster Perpetual. I have a lovely rep JLC Reserve du Marche. The dial layout and look is absolutely gorgeous. I get pleasure from these every time I look at them. I have never had direct comments made to me about the watches I wear and I couldn't care less. My daily beater is (was - it needs repairing!) a modded MBW 1665 DRSD surely the ultimate tool watch, and I happen to love the look of it as well.

Sure you can bang on about what wearing one brand says about you and how the world perceives you but all that is just conditioning, your perceptions, the next persons perceptions etc etc and frankly - who cares. I do however care about what I put on my wrist and nothing would please me more than if a being landed from Mars who had no conception of value, price, brand or anything and looked at my wrist and just simply said "that's a nice watch". That'll do for me :thumbsupsmileyanim:

  3. I can't speak for anyone else but I myself spend quite a bit of time trawling through posts which are of no particular interest to me. Allow me to explain. My interest in watches is concentrated on what we lovingly call "vintage" pieces. I realise this is a loose and ever changing term but for arguments sake I really only like subs and sea dwellers before the models with the applied metal hour markers ie all models where the hour markers were painted directly onto the dial. Also with Daytonas my interest wanes when the automatics entered the scene. I'm sure you all know where I'm coming from. So, wouldn't it be nice if the Rolex forum (and maybe other forums in our marvellous community) were to be separated into a "vintage" and "non-vintage" section. That way the people who are interested in modern pieces would go straight to their section and vintage lovers such as myself (and many others) could go to the "vintage Rolex forum" and read only about the stuff they care for? Discuss :gathering:

  4. I was once in Barcelona and had visited the Gaudi Cathederal (still to be completed) and I discussed the pros and cons of the then debate raging in the city as to weather they should fund the building of the huge central tower.

The following night I got horrendously drunk with a friend and the alcohol made me see with total clarity that the tower should be built. I was walking along Las Ramblas shouting "build the tower" at the top of my drunken voice!

Now, I am at home, completely sober and yet I have that same unmistakable feeling building within me, the decision is clear and needs shouting from the rooftops "Build the watch! Build the watch!"

Come on Ubi - you know it makes sense :bangin:

  5. I was a regular visitor here some time ago. I have never heard of this Halo geezer but am very pleased to see that the spirit of RWG is as strong as ever and that people like him are being weeded out. Well done to all concerned and please Ubi don't let this sorry episode curb your enthusiasm. I for one will not forget the astonishing generosity you showed me when I was a real noob (I'm now just a part time noob!) concerning a certain 6263. I still think of you when I look at the watch and woe betide anyone who abuses this mans skill and generosity.

All hail the great RWG :thumbsupsmileyanim:

  6. Hello to all, long time no post. Great to see the old place still going strong. Sorry been absent for so long - life! Will try to drop in more often, here's my beloved for those who like such things. Asian mvmt (de-rotored), Gen T21, Gen crown and tube, now my daily beater and running fine (so far!)

P.S. Watch now sporting gen folded link bracelet :thumbsupsmileyanim:

  7. Used search facility and changed wording of request and found exactly what I needed instantly! Sorry for asking such a simple one and thanks alligoat for helping. I will order insert and pearl from watchmaterial and perform the necessary mod and keep my fingers crossed. Thanks again.

  8. Greetings to all,

Not been a visitor for a while and for that I apologise. I also apologise for the simplicity of this question but have used the search to no avail. Ugh. I need a bezel insert for a Noobmariner 16610 Sub. I don't want to spend a fortune just a decent quality insert that is visually good with fairly accurate pearl. I would be most grateful if a knowledgeable member could point me in the right direction, or does anybody have a spare for sale?

I intend to replace the insert myself and any hints on how to go about it would also be much appreciated.

All the best to my friends here at RWG and I'll try not to be so much of a stranger in future.

    Dieselpower.

  9. Great stuff D.

Just for the record my DRSD is on my wrist (still) and never misses a beat. All members who do not own a 1665 should sell their grandmothers immediately to purchase a decent one with all the right mods. After all how long is your grandmother going to last? A decent 1665 will last a lifetime and you can't get better value than that :thumbsupsmileyanim:

  10. Al the trusted dealers listed in this site are good. I have used Joshua and Andrew and can recommend them (sorry am a little rusty and can't remember their sites names - use the search facility) you arte on a road to frustration and pain with great satisfation dotted along the way - enjoy the ride and read read read......
