All excellent stuff and good luck with the project but I don't get one thing. If you like the look of the red letters and you like the superdome why didn't you build a 1665 DRSD?

I have just read this post after replying to you in my Michael Allen thread, hence the crossed wires. Sorry to hear you are having trouble aswell, do you not have any comeback from spinmaster?

I'm afraid I can't help you on technical questions about movements but I think the questions you raise are well worth answering as an ETA powered 6263 would be a great watch IMHO. I'm sure the knowledgeable chaps across the pond (I'm in the UK) will chime in with definitive movement answers very soon.

Sorry to hear this, Diesel. I know you have had more than your share of bad experiences with modders.

What movement is in the watch now? Is it a standard A7750?

It is the same movement that has always been in the watch, I believe it is a standard A7750 (de-rotored) but the EE case has asymmetrical pushers so there must have been some jiggery pokery gone on to get the pushers to operate (which they did do before Mr Allen got his hands on them).

Thanks to all of you for your best wishes and concern, I must admit this episode had really put a downer on my enthusiasm for reps and in fact watches in general but these words of support are fuelling my fire back in the right direction. I have contacted Domenico and will send the watch to him for rectification, that is unless anyone can advise me otherwise?

You have to laugh, but I reckon I could have bought 3 Spinmaster 6263's for the amount of money I have sunk into this watch. I know a lot of 'old timers' on this forum have got similar tales to tell, it's just so annoying when you deal with idiots like this 'cause it makes you feel so stupid. Oh well I'll soldier on and chalk another one up to experience and please please please anyone who reads this thread remember the tales herein and do not send your timepiece to anyone until you are confident that they are up to the job.

I hasten to add that I only read about Domenico and his excellent reputation after I had already sent my watch to Mr Allen. Also, I bought the EE6263 way before Spinmasters lovely pieces reared their heads.

@ gplracer, thanks for your thoughts and I'm really pleased that you chose wisely (and took my advice ) and opted for a spinmaster 6263 wear the watch well and enjoy.

@ The Zigmeister, thanks for your little story - I can indeed count myself as lucky - but I can't help feeling for the poor sod who had his heirloom ruined. There is indeed always somebody worse off than yourself. Best wishes and my sympathy to him/her.

I have not posted for ages but feel I have to warn you all about the 'service' offered by Michael Allen in the UK. I sent him an EE Daytona 6263 for modification. The watch was returned to me supposedly finished but there were a myriad of problems. Thankfully Michael Allen was happy to take the watch back and fix them at no extra cost. I gladly sent the watch back to him. It took 8 months for me to get my still non-functioning watch back. Mr. Allen did refund me the money for the initial work done but basically he was in over his head. I know the 7750 movement is a s.o.b. to work on but I think a man should know his limitations and Mr. Allen clearly does not know his. So, now I have a 6263 that does not run at all and has two of the three chrono hands floating round the inside of the glass as they are no longer attached to their pinions. Great.

Needless to say I will not be using him a gain - for anything - I suggest fellow members do the same.

May I add one thing.

I really take exception to the use of the word 'fake'. A replica watch is not a 'fake' watch. A 'fake' watch would look like a watch but would not function like a watch ie it would not tell the time. We have replica watches which function as watches ie they tell the time, they are watches. Real watches. OK, they purport to originate from a different place/factory, but that in itself does not stop them from being watches. They are still watches. Real, actual living beating watches. So can we please refer to them as replicas and not fakes. Rant over. Thankyou.

A good friend of mine is a 'dyed in the wool' Omega fan. He has a small but decent collection, started off by the gold seamaster his father left him in his will. I helped him a little along the way in his purchases (mostly from the bay) with what snippets of advice I could. I told him about my personal favourite day to day watch (1665 SD). He scoffed. I had my MBW DRSD 1665 modded to the point I was quite happy with it (it is still my daily beater) he saw it after the work had been done and - begrudgingly - admitted it was a nice piece. I told him I could get him a MBW Great White 1665 if he wanted to try one (he didn't like the red letters on mine) and he agreed. The watch duly arrived and it went on his skeptical wrist.

He has not worn another watch since.

That was over a year ago.

I rest my case.

That reminds me of a terrible story.

My stepfather started getting into watches and asked me if I could find him a vintage triple calendar piece. I asked around and my friend (then a watch dealer) sold him a triple calendar watch with moonphase (can't remember the make). This piece was beautiful, in superb condition with lovely patina - I think the watch was circa 1960's. Anyway, my stepdad wore it and enjoyed it for many months, all was good. However, one day he was at work (in a hospital) and he had access to a Geiger counter so he took a reading from his watch because he knew that the old luminous paint was radioactive. Needless to say he got a reading and being the paranoid type (and not too clever) he could not wear the watch any more for fear of dying of some hideous radiation induced disease so the watch sat in a drawer. Then, still into watches he met a man who repaired and re-finished old watches and - you guessed it - he gave the watch to him for a complete dial re-finishing ( ) which the man duly did. I saw the watch afterwards and what can I say, although the work was of excellent quality the watch had been killed, murdered, in cold blood! My stepdad was very pleased with the results and continued to wear the watch but over time he got bored of having to reset such a complicated piece and the watch now sits in the drawer again. Mutilated and unworn .

So, JoJo, if you are the paranoid type and feel a little uneasy about wearing that beauty just pop it in the mail to me and you will be safe as houses. I'll even pay the postage - you can't say fairer than that .

I'm not really a snowflake admirer....... until now that head on a nato strap looks absolutely fantastic. Well done to both of you, especially to Ubi for bringing another great piece into the world. Enjoy, wear well in good health.

Just for the record. NOS stands for 'new old stock' so yes, it should be a genuine item in factory wrapping that has sat around on a shelf for possibly years and years but nothing wrong with that

One thing to add. I can see why you find the watch small compared to a sub but be assured that the gen piece is exactly like this, small and comparatively light. The bracelet has less metal on it for a start. Its smallness is one of the reasons why some people like it so much (me for one) it is probably the most compact 'sports' chrono that there is. It is fully understandable that if you are not familiar with the gen that this might come as a bit of a shock but try and find a gen dealer of used pieces and handle the real thing. I think you would be surprised they really are quite flimsy compared to modern chunky monstrosities

Nice to hear you got your watch. FYI I replaced the glass on my EE6263 with a gen tropic 21 and the bezel then became very tight indeed. Before the new glass was put on it was a very loose fit. Can't comment on the winding issue, am still waiting for my de-rotored 6263 to come back from watchmaker.
