  1. The color of the (flashed) gold is not the salient issue that plagues these types of reps.
  2. If you know what the gens look like (you have done your research, right?), it makes a difference. How much depends on your knowledge/experience level. Either would fool the man in the street or average Rolex owner (who knows nothing), but neither would fool a serious Rolex collector.
  3. Loved it. Thanks.
  4. Is the dauphine-handed Calatrava a new entry? I do not think I have seen that 1 before. In any case, I think it needs a yellow gold case.
  5. Wearing the contestant at the left
  6. If you want gold, you will be paying alot more than $1,000 for a 62xx Daytona. Try $15k-$20k+ & Phong. I would also factor in the cost of a complete overhaul by a professional watchmaker upon receipt of any fully-assembled franken you purchase as they often look much better on the outside than they do on the inside.
  7. It looks like your hairspring is tangled. The spirals should all be evenly spaced. If you have a loupe or magnifying glass, look closely at the motion of the hairspring as you gently rotate the balance wheel (do not force it) & you should be able to locate what the spring is hanging-up on. Because of the fragility of the hairspring, I would recommend having a watchmaker untangle it for you. Otherwise, your next request will likely be for instructions on how to replace a mangled hairspring.
  8. How time flies. Congrats, vlydog.
  9. Ditto. Welcome home, Pug.
  10. Nicely done.
  11. Where are the pics?
  12. It sounds like the hairspring got tangled onto an adjoining wheel. A good, clear macro of the balance wheel (ie, 'the spiral') would help.
  13. Wearing my beater today (Sunday)
  14. Adding to Nanuq's comments - I would spend time researching some gen watch sites until you can narrow things down to a model (or 2) that you want to pursue. Then, spend more time researching that particular model. Google is a great place to find pics, as are the gen sites. If there are watch or estate dealers near you, visit them to see if theyh have the gen model you are interested in. If so, try it on, wind it, set the time & get a feel for how the watch operates & feels on your wrist. Remember, if accuracy is important, before you click any buy buttons for reps/frankens, it is best to learn as much as you can about the gen version. Knowledge is your best tool when choosing a rep.

  16. Ending the work week wearing my Aryan 'Master
  17. Check out Josh or Andrew - they are good guys & can usually source whatever reps are out there.
  18. I have 1 set of gens & 2 Ofreis on my 62xx Daytonas & cannot tell the difference in appearance, function or construction
  19. If at all possible, I would avoid super gluing o-rings that do not fit or stay in place. If the o-ring slips out, you have the wrong o-ring. Get the proper 1 & that should solve the problem.
  20. The bracelet was likely a franken, with a generic pin holding the leaves together. This is common with alot of used Rolex bracelets I have seen over the past several years. Just about any watchmaker with a Rolex parts account can repair it (properly) for you.
  21. As Alligoat suggested, the 1st needs a rotor. Beyond that, were they mine, I would have them both professionally overhauled (disassembled, cleaned, lubricated, timed) & wear them.
  22. Depends on which Daytona model, which o-ring & which crown/tube you have. Provide answers to those questions & someone should be able to help you. In the meantime, if the crown will not screw down, the tube or crown threads are damaged & you will need to replace whichever part is damaged.
  23. Ending the work week wearing 1 of my DJs
