  1. Sorry to hear that the interest is not there. I wonder if some of the lack of interest is due to all the talk about a "new" movement that will replace the A7750. While this may be a "pipe dream" and may never happen or may be a long time coming, there is so much talk and speculation that some folks feel like the new movement will happen very shortly.Personally, while I like everyone else would love to see a correct, reliable replacement to the "time bomb" A7750,I'm not holding my breath.
  2. A, folks change their minds all the time. Situations change, sometime suddenly. It happens to everyone. The wife walks in and announces your daughter needs braces, your car dies, you get a big tax bill, etc. .,etc., .etc. What irks me is the guy who doesn't have the common courtesy of a short PM, "Sorry, something has come up and I just can't buy your watch, GLWS" That's just a courtesy that everyone should not even have to think twice about.
  3. Won't be wearing a watch for a few days on my left wrist!!! Tried my right, but just isn't comfortable. Stitches out probably by Friday, so a week with no watch. Well hell, got my IPhone, so I'll know the time. I may try something with a long NATO to wear over the bandage. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  4. Matt does awesome work, and he is a great guy and will answer your questions about what you are looking for. Like someone said, not sure about the DJII, but you need to ask him. Shoot him a PM, and ask him about what you want to build. One of the nice things about Matt, he will tell you straight up,"I will not work on certain watches/movements". That's better than some folks who will tackle anything, and end up screwing up your project!!
  5. I have bought a few things from him, no problems either. However with a 92% positive rating, there must be a few folks that weren't happy.(That was on Ewatchparts Amazon site) Some of the negatives seem to be from folks who don't know what they want, order the wrong thing and then get mad when it doesn't fit. All of the entities are based in Sugarland TX, a suburb of Houston, so everything ships from the USA.
  6. Just read this article in the NY Times, which pretty much sums up what a daunting task the US Customs, ATF, DEA, etc. have in trying to stop contraband goods from getting into the country. What many of us don't realize is, the sheer volume is overwhelming. 60,000 Containers per day enter the USA, Guys that is box 20 feet long, 8 feet tall and about 8 feet wide. Just imagine how many Gucci bags, Nike shoes, T-shirts, etc. can fit in one container, then multiply that by 60K !! Most of these are coming into about 10 major ports. I'm sure the port of LA handles at least 20% of the containers coming from China, so the agents there and other POE's have to look at and awful lot of goods every day. Here is a link to the article, interesting read. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/12/20/business/at-us-ports-even-santas-bag-might-be-peeked-into.html?emc=edit_th_20141220&nl=todaysheadlines&nlid=39881937
  7. I'm afraid this is another project that's doomed to failure. Poor design, terrible aesthetics, trying to get into production and run not on a shoestring, but a thread!! This sounds like something that came to fruition not in a bank meeting room, but between some guys in a bar designing a watch on cocktail napkins. Huge problem, the market is flooded with watches in the 500-1000 USD range. Some of them are pretty nice, but some are really ugly. What they almost all have in common is a struggle for funding and market share. Let's face it guys, the younger generation is not a watch wearing generation. If they need to know the time, they have it to within a millisecond accuracy on their smart phones, which they are looking at all the time anyway!! I would bet that within the next 10 years, 50-75 percent of the younger, start up "boutique" brands will be a historic antidote. Like the Swiss watch industry was brought to it's knees in the 70's with the introduction of cheap quartz, this generation of manufacturers will be brought to it's knees by the Smart phone and smart watch. If the watch industry wasn't worried about the impact smart watches are going to have on their sales, why would Tag Heuer be spending millions of dollars gearing up to produce a Tag Smart watch? The Swiss can see the handwriting on the wall, and I'm sure they don't want it to be written in their blood like it was in the 70's. They scoffed at quartz, and it almost killed their industry, they aren't going to make the same mistake twice. If I were those guys, Instead of developing a Butt ugly Dive watch that competes with multiple dozens of other ugly cheap Rolex Sub "wannabes", I would be trying to develop a smart watch, or apps to use on existing smart watches.
  8. It's all market driven. As the genuine parts get scarcer and scarcer, the prices will continue to climb. At some point in time, the last of the old watchmakers hoards will be exhausted, and when that time comes, either one of two things will happen, either folks will pay completely insane prices for NOS parts or they will finally decide, "what the Hell" Rolex isn't supporting us, and hasn't for years. I want to keep my old Sub running, so I'll start replacing parts with aftermarket parts. That will be the only sensible alternative. Maybe the 25 guys left on the Vintage Rolex Forum will continue to trade parts, but for the rest of us, aftermarket will be our only answer.
  9. In and older post, Freddy said they were: Rolex part number for 62xx Daytonas - 23-9280 Ofrei has them, problem is minimum order is either 15.00 USD or 25.00 USD. I've had good luck with their springbars as well as some from Ebay.
  10. Absolutely the worst time of year to be shipping anything. Christmas time is the busiest time of the year for all shippers. It will show "origin post preparing shipment" until the USPS actually scans it in here in the USA. Another thing is it depends on the method of shipping. If you opted for Registered mail, it may not get scanned 'til it hits your local PO, and Registered is slow at best, and truly is "snail mail" this time of the year. I mailed MOAB a watch last Monday 2 Day Priority (At least that's what I paid for and what it claimed on the label) He got it either Friday or Saturday should have been delivered on Wednesday!! Be patient, it will get to you, you just might not have it by Christmas.
  11. I agree, A deposit will separate those who are legit about really wanting/needing a DW and those who just decide on a whim, I'll sign up for this, it's non binding!! Might prevent the problem you had with the last batch of AP DW's you made. I would ask for a 25% non refundable deposit, the only condition for refund would be if their isn't enough interest, and they don't get made, otherwise you're in.
  12. While most of us are not happy with the increase on prices of reps, we seem to grouse and bitch about it, but then we pony up the money and buy. The problem that I see is the added money that we spend on getting one "right" Just for example, lets use and FC V whatever as and example FC diver new cost 528.00 USD AR'ed crystal or stock crystal relumed 100.00-125.00 USD Relume 130.00 USD Movement conversion or slow beat Tissot 265.00 - 300.00 USD Case polish 75.00 Total 1098.00 -1158.00 USD Even with all these expensive mods, you have a nice watch, but this still doesn't address the inner bezel faults, the size and spacing of numbers, DW issues, etc. So what you have is a watch that has doubled in price and it's still only 95-97% , not 99%. The biggest problem with spending double what the watch costs to get it from 94% to 97%, occurs when you try to sell it. You are NOT going to recoup your modding costs. Some folks are luckier than others, sometimes it depends on the model and popularity, but in reality, you will be lucky if you get the cost of the watch and half of your modding costs back at sale. Also, we don't usually factor in the price of shipping a watch back and forth between modders, the frustration factor of getting a freshly modded watch home, only to find out the it's now running 30 minutes per day fast or slow, The chrono subdial hands are not zeroed, and on and on and on!! I believe that all of these factors are a big reason that some of our most active members here, folks who have built or had built some pretty amazing watches, eventually give up in frustration and switch over to gens. So as folex said, I would much rather pay twice the price upfront for one that is 99% and can be worn straight out the box, needs no mods and is accurate and reliable.
  13. I have a V5 that has been relumed and AR'ed and I'm perfectly satisfied with it. Maybe if something came out that was "perfect" I would upgrade, but I have found that every time a new model is released, they make incremental improvements in one area, but either fail to address other faults or make them worse. The rep manufacturers are business people, they know full well that if they build a 99.99% copy of any watch, they will sell folks one and that's it. As it is, every time a "new and improved" model is released, people sell their old ones and buy the new. Just human nature.
  14. That is very nice. The V7 is miles better than the v5.1. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  15. Great looking project, probably need to make sure the inside is machined to easily accept a good reliable, easily obtainable movement, like the 2824. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Tudor Today Can't find anyone that wants thus one, so may as well wear it !!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Something about the contemporary Doxas that never really resonated with me. Don't know why, as I like the old ones. I had both of the new version T-Graphs, as well as a GMT, a couple of Caribbean's, and several of the other new versions. The closest to the vintage, the 1200T was a keeper for a while but eventually, it got sold or traded. I have probably had 15-20 Doxas, and all I have left is the old pre 300T dive watch that's in Peter Millar's Book, a Coralline that my wife owns, also in Peter's book, and my old 300T Professional US Divers. The only one that I would buy today if I could find a "steal" would be a vintage 200 T-Graph. , Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. I'm afraid this one may hang around for a while!! Not sure that any Doxas will bring that price except a pristine Conquistador or T-graph with box and papers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  21. I've gotten good results from Steinhausen. I bought a 4 winder about 10-12 years ago. About a year ago, the winders started to fail, one by one. I contacted the company about sending it in for repair, they told me that they didn't have parts for the old winders, but gave me a coupon for 60% off a new one that has a lifetime warranty. New one is very quiet, looks really nice and has room to store 2 and wind 4. These are pretty expensive winders, but if they last for a long time and have a 100% replacement warranty, they may be worth the money. I seldom keep watches in the winder, much anymore, rather just wind, reset and go.
  22. There are several options. First the high beat options that are not correct beat wise. (AP movement is 21000, these are all 28800). 1. ETA 2824-2 Expensive but the best option. 2. Seagull ST 2130 Very good alternative, less than half the price of the 2824. Low beat options 1. ETA 2824 modified to slow beat. 2. ETA 2846 (Slow beat movement, however these are all old movements, and will definitely need a service). 3. Powermatic 80 (Slow beat built by ETA for Tissot) also a great alternative, but pretty much unavailable as a movement, so have to buy a donor watch, which will probably set you back as much as the AP V5 cost. There may be more, these are all that I'm familiar with.
