  1. +1, the op6500 is tricky to do justice as the JF/old 111F seldom or never show up. @Grimlocktime has offered reshaping service to members interested in this project. I'd recommend sending him a pm if you have a case candidate but maybe feel unsure if there's enough metal/meat on the midcase to shape from. Regarding crown, I would from a lazy perspective strongly recommend everyone just using latest pvd crown from DSN - would simplify the process with our factory.
  2. Ok, so confirmed that dial is correct size. Hope you can get Phong to adapt. My guess would be he mixed up with more common 6538 or 6536 choices. Hope you get this together, based on your starting parts this should become a grail!
  3. Thank you! That's more or less a gen Rolex 1601 with a genuine 1016 gilt dial in it. The superdome 22 plexi helps to give some distortion.
  4. Good day everyone, I'm travelling to visit my parents and my home town, the 1016 is the companion of choice today.
  5. Sorry to hear this. Have you taken this up with Ivan and Phong - ie double checked that you've made the correct order and their understanding of dial size in a 5508? My notepad contains following, which I've found accurate sofar from my builds: 6536 26,98 circa cal. 1030 deep 100/330 6536/1 27,68 circa cal 1030 deep 100/330 5508 27,69 circa cal 1530 deep 100/330 6538 27,00 circa cal 1030 deep 200/660 5510 26,96 circa cal.1030 deep 200/660
  6. Yes guys, me and rolli just had a couple of longer conversations on the phone. Project back up running, I'll try and help as much with the practicalities as I can. Will be rollis secretary more or less to lighten the burden on him, so he can focus on the technical parts. A couple of you already have PMs, rest will be out shortly with private update. If you just saw this and wish to join, please send me a PM asap!
  7. Hi there fitch! (and others potentially interested) Unfortunately it looks as if this project is cancelled - or at least that it's been put on hold for a substantial amount of time. Reason being that rolli is very tied up with all his other projects that has higher prioritization atm (dials and cases). We did not even get as far as a price quote... Must apologize for not being much of a communicator or coordinator on this, in the end I'm just a desperate guy looking for a great pvd coating to finish off a grail project of mine (202/a). I cross my fingers that opportunity shows up later to do a later pvd run, but will let rolli get back to me when that might be. Again, sorry if expectations were raised for nothing! Very much appreciated if anyone else has a plan B in mind
  8. Starting this day up with some lightning bolt / milgauss action
  9. Yum yum! Love cartel case based 5513s, and this might just be one of the best I've seen. Imo perfect as is, keep the athaya crown and use funds for next build [emoji106]
  10. Good morning guys, Pre-comex 5514 to brighten up this cold rainy day
  11. Thanks Joey for the clarification. Helped me realize I also fell into the old trap of saying "genuine is superior to everything aftermarket and everything phong and his relatives produce is superior to other aftermarket options"...
  12. Sorry Joey, poorly written from my side and was not meant as negative criticism for your bezel (which is what i chose myself for my project as you know). Edited my post now. The phong is more expensive and based on my subjective and non-professional judgement (note: only based on photo) I deemed it as a bit better. Each member can judge for themselves based on pictures and I would be very happy if someone with hands on experience of both options could chime in with their opinions. That also includes you Joey
  13. Btw, remembered you writing that you wanted to use the dg3804 (cheap and good gmt movement imo). If going with the silix case I'd advice against that. As it's sold with 2836 risk is that movement won't fit without custom ring, stem height may differ etc. I'd recommend you looking for a gmt 2836/46 - a WTB might solve that for you.
  14. Good! Maybe you can ask Silix how the bezel (and case) currently is constructed, ie if it will fit a bezel construction with a bezel that snaps on to a retaining ring? The "phong" bezel is great and a good option (if you can fit it to your case). Another (I think cheaper) option for bezel is the one from JoeyB: That dial also looks very interesting. Good thing about it too is that it doesn't seem to have the gen style "bowl shape" (ie without dial feet, but a lip that snaps onto the rolex movement) - looks flat from what I can see on the picture. Think you just might have a very interesting project ahead of you! Just wish you good luck on keeping that budget incl movement, hands plus gen plexi and crown
  15. More expensive anyhow. I was offered one when I gathered parts for my 6542 project, ended up declining. Always easy to spend crazy amounts on builds - in the end you might find that it would have been cheaper just buying a full case set incl caseback, crown and plexi... What's your total budget btw? If limited, I'd advice you to save funds for dial (eg NDT, say $600) and get a Clarks 116 plexi. Some early 6542s were also fitted with non cyclops plexi - so you have some freedom to do what you like. Just my 2 cents.
  16. Really interesting to see the rols176 case mentioned - I (incorrectly?) thought that was since long out of production! Advantage with that, irc, is that it already has a very decent coin edge bezel. I would thus not advice you buying some other aftermarket bezel (assume you're looking at 1675 versions perhaps?). Again, don't think that it has a construction with a retaining ring (to be fitted round the plexi) but the kind with a hexagonal wire spring. In that case, you could be forced to do some shaving to the insert and perhaps even glue / tape the bezel (again, don't take my word for it, just warning lol!). Would be very happy if you would give this a try and buy a set from Silix! You'd need to replace that movement - or add gmt module to the 2836. Advantage is that it's correct hand stack. The dwo should fit 2836.
  17. Well, if OP is able to find one...
  18. You correctly identified the flaws of the pt 6542 Roulette dwo you can get from erick76 over at RWI. Regarding silix cases I have doubts on whether the current lineup has gen bezel construction. Also unsure if 116 plexi fits. But others might confirm...
  19. Creme dial 6154 with Rolex Tropic 24 plexi
  20. Old saying true once again; If it sounds too good to be true - it probably is....
