  1. Am I wrong or is "Fat panda" not a TD here?
  2. Is it just me or is the PN daytona becoming the new watch du jour? Seems very similar as to what happened a few years ago with the 1016. A gorgeous old vintage rollie that cannot be bought in an appropriate form so building is the only way, and as it's popular, people will. Unfortunately that's really where the answer lies. They're a bit of a build to get into but how deep down the rabbit hole you wish to go is up to you. Once I put a bit of money aside it will no doubt be the rabbit hole I'll go down.
  3. Personally I think that the pricing is definitely part of why this hobby is stagnating but far from the only issue. I cannot for the life of me justify spending $500 anywhere near regularly on a rep (though I do now realise that I'm writing this while wearing a BK 16610 that I paid more than that for a couple of years ago ), for crying out loud if I did that twice I could almost buy a gen speedy reduced. My personal MO in the rep hobby at the moment is to slowly build up some watches or go for okay lower priced reps. My cheap small patek nautilus has given me ample enjoyment and most people have no damn idea what it is, and when a good mate pointed to it and asked if it was real there was no expectation that it would be haha. I also see this sort of crazy hobby to be just that, a hobby, not just a deal between two people after which one has money and the other has a watch. I enjoy researching and building watches bit by bit. I learnt basic watchmaking from this website that allowed me to rebuild many heirloom watches in my family. Buy what you like, build what you like, don't take things too seriously, accept the risks of the game and talk [censored] with the wonderful people on this and some of the other fora and you will enjoy this crazy nonsensical hobby. Come in wanting to get the 1:1 b3st sub for $100 with g3n r0l3x movement and you'll be gone pretty quickly
  4. With how you've described it it is honestly anybody's guess what is wrong with it. Think if you don't have the inclination your only option is watchmaker or the TD. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Is the hour subdial really inactive as mentioned in the modding link on the 6263?
  6. You've pretty much summed up why I quite like the Daytona (though I'm yet to jump down the rabbit hole of building one). I've small wrists and so both the Daytona and the 16570 would do well on me. Heck I spent all of yesterday wearing my freshly repaired great grandfather's 32mm omega and it wore fine.
  7. Wasn't there a lovely anonymous lad around these fora a while ago?
  8. Great pics jmb. I still wear my old 1016 every so often with pride. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Well that's one bloody good pickup then mate. Wear her in good health.
  10. Pretty poorly written article that is full of the same boring tropes that we in this community have read 101 times by newbies who sign up for an account to only disparage the community as a whole. The photos are dishonest and I'm sure to a point his experience is dishonest. He gives communities such as ours the raw deal when it comes to knowledge. I have never purchased a replica watch while being unsure of what on it would work, I like most here do my research and spend my money frugally. But let them think that reps are just shoddy garbage, makes my stuff look even more real in the eyes on the uninitiated.
  11. Now while the price is hard to nail down here is my 1016 build: It was built on the cheap using a JMB case (I know you may have issues sourcing them but try across the fora posting in WTB subfora). The dial was from Yuki and as were the hands. I used a 2824-2 which admittedly was not the correct beat rate but was easier for me to source. The rest of the parts like dial, tube, crown etc came with my JMB case.
  12. I definitely agree that there are certain builds that are a far too high percentage of the gen price to consider, but those frankens are too right for my blood anyway. I also have to agree with By-Tor on the hulk but I quite like the batman, I don't like the smurf and I think the new black subs are too bloated. I do think that lobster is correct with dress watches being the best domain of the gen watch. The rep makers simply do not do them justice (which makes sense with the very small market) and there is just something special about a good gen dress watch that a rep has yet to provide. 13. Thanks mate I know from experience the 1016 pictured above has a combination of raffles and tiki hands after I managed to mangle one of the yuki hands and that's not even mentioning how many times I reconstructed the keyless works on the 1016 build. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Welcome to the forum, The 1016 was my second rep and my first build and it is an absolutely marvellous build to learn the ropes on due to the relative simplicity of a 3 hander, no date. My 1016 involved a: JMB case Swiss ETA 2824 from a donor movado. Yuki bracelet Yuki Dial Yuki hands This build is honestly not overly difficult as long as you have basic tools and a willingness to learn. I cannot speak for what the current market price of such a build would be at current time though. And now some pics:
  15. Ahh Ubi it is always an absolute pleasure to see your watch builds, fantastically gorgeous watches that make my day. Wear them in good health mate.
  16. Welcome to the madness that is this hobby mate. Enjoy yourself Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. They should replace it with the one that was requested in all honesty. Just wait for them to do so and if they fail to then contact a mod. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. I absolutely adore 1016s mine is my go to watch from anything wrong the beach to more formal events due to its size and simplicity. Also love the 1002. Wear them in good health. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I surely hope so. If it wishes to survive then it must. Otherwise the [censored] will hit the proverbial fan. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. The sheer difference really just comes down to the Shahada. For as long as it exists reformation is at best incredibly illogical. It would be doublethink to believe that the Quran is the literal word of a perfect Allah through the messenger while also thinking that it is wrong to beat a disobedient wife for example. I am very happy that most Muslims disregard such a verse, but the existence of the shahada and reformation are very uncomfortable bedfellows. And don't worry, I'm no stranger to ripping into the weirder scripture of the bible or Torah, the bible is just lucky that the multiple human writers thing gives wiggle room. 21. There's definitely some good going on at the moment. Though I still remain skeptical. I read elsewhere of 31 scholars deeming suicide attacks haram through fatwa. Though from a literature point of view I cannot see where they come to that conclusion I'm more than happy with such a declaration. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
