  1. This is the most depressing time of year for me. I'm a summer person, and I can't stand the long Canadian winter. The weather is still nice in Toronto, but any day now the heat will leave us and not return for another eight months or so. Maybe when I put away my skateboard this year I'll look in to getting a snowboard and maybe enjoy the snow this year
  2. Are you talking about replacing the entire bezel or just the insert?
  3. Same here Toad. I picked up my Quartz daydate one morning from one of the daily vendors at Union Station. I actually got a lot of comments on that watch initially, then the gold wore off very quickly. If I still had it today I would have polished of all the gold and kept it for sentimental value, but I had soon moved on to better watches, and the Rolex is in the trash somewhere.
  4. Great idea for a thread Lani. I love hearing stories from the days before I came on board. That was back in the dying days of RWG 1. So much has happened since then, but those early days were certainly different times. If there was one guy that could spin tails of the old days, it was Neil. I know a lot of people are glad to see him gone, but he certainly would be able to add to a topic like this.
  5. Sweet Ubi! I really miss my 42mm.
  6. Nice pics! Is the SA dial gen? I love the tan strap on the skyland, I put the same one on my ti chrono avenger every now and then and really like it.
  7. Those are the only two methods that i've ever heard of. Not sure how effective either method is. I would figure that the cigar smoke method would be the best looking result, but it seem to me you'd have to blow an awful lot of smoke in order to change the color. The coffee method seems like you are just painting the lume (using coffee instead of paint), and I'm not sure that you would get a natural looking result.
  8. Have to disagree with you on a couple of things here. Firstly, the DG2813s that you can get from places like cousins are not always the same as what is in our reps. Specifically the height of the hands is much lower, and on a PO it is hard to get the hands to clear the hour markers without bending them up slightly. Ajoesmith sells the proper movement, with the correct handstacks for about $40. As to the 28k movement being more accurate, it is not. The genuine PO beats at 25,200 bpm, so it is slightly smoother than a 21k, and slightly rougher than a 28k. If you look at a gen you will immediately notice that it is not as smooth as a 28k movement. IMO, a 21k looks slightly more accurate.
  9. Just wondering, do you need to hit the release button when inserting a stem? Same procedure for all movements?
  10. Try contacting these guys. Last I checked they were selling the 3-6-9 version for just over $100. Send an email, because I dont think they list it on their site. http://somalcanada.com/
  11. The two major things to look at are the pearl and the date font. They are both much better on the expensive version. That said, I like how the rider tabs seem to fit a little better in to the bezel on the cheaper version. The gaps seem a little wide on the pricier one. Still, the font and pearl are major tells, so I'd go with the expensive one.
  12. I know member ajoesmith is doing AR in Australia. Not sure if he still comes here, but you can find him at repgeek.
  13. Hmm, I really don't see the problem with sending the guy a PM and asking him if he is aware that his sub is a rep? As I said before, I think it is highly unlikely that he isn't aware of it, and he is only embarrassing himself by continuing to post it. Saying nothing is like letting him walk around with his fly undone.
  14. He has to know! Nobody that knows watches is going to buy a second hand Sub without somehow verifying its authenticity. Its the same with the fellows over at Breitling source. Its pretty evident that they buy the odd rep and are impressed by them. At least they don't try to hide the fact that they are reps.
  15. A dark day for sure. Its just beyond comprehension.
  16. Send it back. If the pearl is unfinished, the pearl crystal is probably missing as well. It won't look right with just the lume in there.
  17. GreAt stuff Lan, most of the watches you have posted this far have been on my wishlist at one point. Always loved that Cartier, one of the only square watches I have taken to.
  18. The moonie and the Pam 192 are two examples of watches that went out of production causing their value to rise considerably. Those prices have dropped with time, as those weren't the most accurate reps. The original Ti Chrono Avenger is an example of a watch that continues to gain value. Some of those early Pams with gen 7753s have gained a bit of value as well.
  19. Hey Lan, your post isn't unappreciated, I just cant view the images yet (zee bucket iz blocked). You'll have to wait until tonight before I tell you how beautiful your collection is Get well Robbie!
  20. Its crazy isn't it? The SMP on his wrist seemed to have about the same presence as the Chrono Avenger that I was wearing. This guy was a black fellow, and everything is bigger on black guys, as we all know
  21. Very sweet Breit you got there mate! Do you know what kind of strap was on it origionally?
  22. Get well Robbie, you are greatly missed
  23. You should only slowly hand wind to get the watch started if needed. Not a good idea to do it any more than that.
