  1. Man, now that I see Kruzer's post, and did a quick trip to via paneristi's ref section, my mind is playing tricks on me. sssurfer: is it possible that the diatance from which a pic is taken can effect the apparent mag? some of these look VERY different from one another--I'll download them and look at them w/ the grid on in photoshop.

  2. I still vote for sapphire as I am sure that is what the gens would use. As standard engineering principles are used in Manufacture of the gens then the use of like materials would surely be the choice.

I will call my guy on Monday and tell him of our problems to see what he suggests.

here's what I think is going on--we're about to shell out a healthy amount of dough, risk a fair amount of cred around here, and we finally have a wealth of options. So naturally the dark sides of our brains are coming up with all kinds of reqsons why this may be a mistake! Just a healthy dose of pullthhetriggeritis. Probably, we should just give my guy till 5pm monday and then move along to the next step of the plan we all agreed on.

It may be prudent, though, for joe to supply a final and definitive measurement of the OEM date wheel and of the image produced by his cyclops. If that is not possible, I have another idea which I will PM you all about.

BTW, I should add that Kruzer00 is excluded my cold-feet hypotheseis above. He has clearly been willing from the beginning to buy dozens of $100 lenses to be delivered directly to his hedge fund's headquartes @ Trump Towers, and I certainly would not want to lump him in w/ us rank-and-file cheapskates!

  3. I want to monitor long term performance a bit before revealing further details on the type of movement used.

We don't want anyone to get hurt.....I remember my watchmaker telling me what kind of movement lots of folks use on the old rolexes once in one of his rants about vintage rolex reps (he's passionate about genuine vintage rollies but is still pretty rep friendly). A.S. I think...I'll check.

  4. Davidsen asked me for my technical advice on these and initially I was sceptical but in practice they do not look at all bad - certainly an easy fix if you don't want to pay one of us repairers to change the pinion.

Faber, how is the quality of the fit and finish on the hands, generally, compared to the hands that come on the rep?

  5. Get outta here! :thumbsupsmileyanim:

honest to god...actually it was the first quote I got before it became apparent that glass would do 1.6 at best. Personally, I don't believe that glass will work, but I've been keeping an open mind since the only one of us who has actually held a gen in his hand side by side w/ a new cyclops equipped rep maintains that w/ the new wheel glass will work, and since we have never officially documented that OEM Pannies have a 2.0 mag.

Believe me, I'd love Joe to be right 'causeif he is we do our mods for less than ten bucks, but I still believe there's only about a 5% chance he is and that we'll be shelling out the comparative big bucks.

  6. Great work by all. Joe, I am sure having the proper font on the date wheel will make it more apparent what the right answer is. It appears that the laws of refraction are not serving our purpose (or we can't measure) Am I correct in assuming that we may have to get made exactly what we want as there is too much variance in the stock items?

The stock items are already more expensive when you factor in the cost of milling, shipping, etc --the only benefit would be a couple weeks at best, depending on the work load of whomever you hire to mill them.

That's great news about Joe's wheel--if it turns out that it works good enough with glass I have a quote for custom 1.3 CT glass for $7 ea.

  7. hello where is finepics?

Probably caught up in all the drama, like me. OK, here's an update. I spoke w/ the sapphire people, and according to them they said "pretty close" because the salesman has to run the specs one more time by the engineering department to get the absolute lowest price. I pretended that the world would come to an end if I didn't have these lenses soon, so he promised to tell me on Monday their absolute lowest drop dead price. I sent an email to the SF11 people asking for a prototype--In case they say no, and we end up going w/ them, I wanted them to be sure they could do the edge thickness below .5, since they'd be the only ones so far who could do it--i sent them a large version of the following schematic so there would be no confusion.

  8. I'm worried too. Now that the Dubai Ports deal has been killed, my plan to get 100% of my watches through is dead in the water. I was going to have all my watches shipped via DPI ports in large shipping crates surrounded by radioactive material next to a briefcase labled: "Some cash for my favorite evildoer. Happy Birthday! From Osama." Wait. now that I think about it: Actually, since the Bush administration is still resisting demands to search more than the 5% of shipping crates they currently search (while now apparently taking great pains to X-ray packages at the request of Swiss companies) that this plan may still be viable. Are any dealers on board with me?

  9. No, GRAN has ran amok over there editing posts and deleting all our references to this new site.

Gran is inserting words into other peoples posts to make it look like someone said something.

He's [censored] off cause he was not allowed to moderate over here, or Just plain crazy.

On a side note, I can't confim this, but I think Gran may have been involved with the great $$ heist... A close source just informed me of this.

Did Gran close all the threads as well, for example the ones in Repair & Upgrade?

  10. I just registered about 10 minutes back, and I used a link from RWG (Old) to get here. Sorry to hear that someone is acting the saboteur. Hopefully it is a case of a wee bit too much Irish Whiskey on St. Paddy's Day.

    Glad to be here

    Arthur

Someone help me here. Someone, whom jraines just outed on RWG, is closing multiple threads at RWG with the intent of sabotaging this board? Granted, three out of my five brain cells are not working, but what exactly is going on? Mostly, I'm curious if there is one person closing those threads, or if there is some nuclear exchange going on over there. Would all those with the authority to close threads @ RWG please chime in?

  11. Did they take all the furniture?

If Blade is changing the posts, it seems a little late for his active involvement in his own board. If it a Mod and only one person can do it, why not just name the name so we know who to ignore?
