looking for some cheap reps... watcheden still alive?
Nightwatch replied to fulanito_uk's topic in General Discussion
Hi, You´re here for a long time and depends on the "cheap". From my experience it´s much better to spend $108 - $148 on the 21j than $60-$80 because there is a real quality-jump in between. Supermirrors (Sead) is able to source nice 21j pieces at low prices if You ask him. -
Looking for the best Rolex Sub from the best seller
Nightwatch replied to qwer81's topic in The Rolex Area
As for "the best" etc. it´s a bit of a trick question. No doubt, the TC has better quality but it also comes at a "better" price. It is the best available. Some are perfectionists, others just like to wear the watch or different types of watches. My 2 cheapest ($118 and $168) - 1 Year later - get as much wrist-time as my TC and an Explorer II 16570 with asian ETA even gets more. The most "value per $" imo is the $238 BP Seadweller, after that one each 1% better costs unproportionally more. By the way the same goes for the Noob Sub-C You first mentioned. And it goes for cars as well, the best and most expensive Porsche Carrera does not have comfortable seats, it has manual windows made of plastic, manual gearshift, no radio and no air-conditioning. It still is " the best" for purists. 2nd take on this is, You can start with the TC and than get the others or You can start at a lower level and than maybe get the TC (or not, if You are already satisfied). Tc with Yachtmaster seconds hand and BP Seadweller To make this more interesting, for less than the TC You also get a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms it has a lumed bezel All I´m saying is to choose wisely because You are able to spend a lot of money in repworld really quick. -

Star 69 - You were unlucky, there was a specific batch of TC´s with that problem, took some time until he discovered it with his movement supplier, there is a thread about it. It´s been sorted out meanwhile (since +- 2 months). -
Hi, all that´s been said plus these are automatic watches so there really is no point in winding them at all, so no wear on the gears and stem. As soon as You pick them up they should start running and after just some hours wear have a power reserve good for more than 24 hours.

Great, that was fast Gentle and thx kbh for the pic -
Congrats on the new Daydate - that looks very good and I like to see them on strap. Would have said go for it anyway. Nice pair of dresswatches.

Thanks Gentle, fine link. Until now I only finetuned within the +-, but now I got curious. How exactly/which way do You accelerate / decelerate the golden thingy when a watch is running really fast or really slow? Jut interested, might need it someday. Whenever You have a pic of it that would be fine. -
How many times can you reject a watch based on QC pics?
Nightwatch replied to theflyingdutchman's topic in General Discussion
Now You´ll need nerves and patience, it´s when the hobby becomes somewhat complicated between keep on trying, give up the TD or give up the watch at all (temporarily). 2 more to go (and meanwhile don´t go buy a gen). -

It´s right, no handwinding and no hacking. For setting seconds You can use the trick of holding the minute hand backwards. On the other hand it really picks up power reserve fast/ immediately. Most Seiko 5 series are also not windable. The other 4me similar pickup was a windable/hackable Citizen NY0040-09W. The crown on the left is a fine feature as it never cuts into the wrist. The lumed dial is different from anything else.

Thanks Guys. Has been on that 22mm Nato since, fine quality one from Paul Hewitt.

Welcome to the club. It´s a fantastic diver and toolwatch with everything that´s needed and a 30+ years history. And it will run almost forever without a service. And it´s always fascinating how fast CW are:)

Was wondering about the gasket as well but it´s there. All points like said above plus see that the 2 screws holding the movement are holding it in place, maybe just check if they are tight. As temporary solution just screw the caseback hand-tight. Others: one of the hands could be catching and if You lay it facedown (when the caseback is open) it moves freely. Just try to leave the watch facedown (with caseback) to see if it stops or runs. Sometimes when the crown is screwed in too tight it also stops the movement (sometimes after a while). Try leaving it open or just screwed in a little as well. Good luck in sorting it out.

Every day I come here, I learn something new and I would never have believed the time (years) it takes to get into the details and finesses. The fine thing is, it´s real fun to learn about. I´m incredibly grateful that members, with outstanding inside knowledge, like You Ihooq and Tomhorn exist and offer/share the very detailed amount of support You do. Thanks to Mike´s tips I was able to buy all the parts, open up a Seiko and make my first ever FFF-mod which is simple and learned lots of "how to do´s" along the way. These have helped me since with waterproofing and sorting out/fixing minor issues. So I´m very happy around, thanks All.

Anyone can give a review on Hublot Big Bang Gold Mat?
Nightwatch replied to trinity13's topic in Other Brands Area
Hi, I would not know what makes it $260 more expensive than comparable other V6 or V6.5 in rosegold. The A7750 chrono movement is the only available for chronos, it´s not shockproof and should be handled following all the "rules" for it, not winding, only setting date at 6 etc. read about it. For a reasonably priced, reliable, lumed and stunning rep I´d choose the AP Diver (non-chrono) over it. -
Both are amazing. Stunners

Most superlumed releases with the asian ETA fall into this category. Take a look at the Breitling Superocean Abyss 42mm and the Tudor Blackbay.

Hi, that review is 8 Years old, model is somewhat outdated and there have been new and improved releases including gmt´s, although not of that exact model, which seem a more sensible choice. Newest release is a vintage - looking non-GMT Seamaster 300m Co-axial. Repairs: on a 21j - GMT for cheap with a new movement from Cousins.UK or O. Frey Conus, around $40 if You don´t care for the date-font and do it Yourself. Otherwise with labour included, not worth the trouble.

HELP! How can I hide this from my wife?
Nightwatch replied to panermaniac's topic in The Panerai Area
It is a wonderful vintage beauty. What You will have to explain to her is how You left to buy a Ferrari and came back with a Honda Accord:) Gen is $78.000 and platinum and limited to 50 only. When it comes to this, it´s really a blessing to have reps. And that movement is as beautiful as the front. I don´t own an Asian lemania copy yet, so there is an argument already to get one! Congrats, might want to ask You in some months from now how it´s performing:) -

Nightwatch replied to theflyingdutchman's topic in General Discussion
Interesting question/discussable Imo 2 rejections are ok, if the third has to be rejected it´s time for a refund or the 4th definitely must be spot on. Must say that on the forums I already saw 5 rejections because of crooked 12 o´clock markers or tilted logo on the AP 15400, the 6th was tip-top spot on, myself I would have given up long before that. Sometimes it´s just the TD that is a bit careless other times really the whole batch of the watches seem to have been produced on a bad Monday and there´s (almost) nothing You can do about. Just today have seen a terrible Pelagos and another that seemed spot on, so I don´t agree with the whining that we must take it - specially when it´s $500 we´re talking off (not buying a gen either, buying a rep) -
Tudor Black Bay V2 vs V3, any difference?
Nightwatch replied to Rivi1969's topic in Other Brands Area
The new V3 is the best available when it really is a complete V3 with no mismatched parts. Intime (not a TD here, but solid) has it for $298,- with SS bracelet and leather band with deployant included. The V2 in my opinion was the worst version with too white hands and totally mismatched lume, still very happy with my V1, nice creamy white hands and dot makers, uniform lume, good bezelring-clicking, never had any issue (like many others) and all is solid and fine, have used it a lot.
