  1. UPDATE Camera is now laying upside down in the bathtub, under water with the tripod still attached. Whoops lol Sorry i guess no pictures today.. but theres good news.. the Deepsea appears to be ok so far.. I'll pull it out in an hour and put it over some slight heat and see if the crystal foggs up as it dries.. Score so far Deepsea 1 - Camera 0
  2. Heres a used watch buyers guide with current 1996 used prices There are 3 prices listed.. worn condition/good condition/new or unworn condition How about a used 1665?
  3. I'll tell you what.. i have a DSSD v3... and i hate it.. i really do.. i tried to love it and i cant. lack of AR and the greyish looking ceramic insert.. i cant do it.. so.. Im going to fill up my bathtub with water and throw it in there for a couple hours... lets see if it leaks. No water proofing has been done to the watch and i have not greased any of the seals.. lets see what happens. If it survives this them its good enough for swimming, sea-dooing, boating etc etc. No this is not a well laid out, structured test to be used as a guidline for waterproofing. I'll take some pics.. hang on. This could be good. lol
  4. very nice Laz The pearl matches very well to the dial and hands. You guys got me all excited about these vintage Subs again and last night i pulled apart my comex 5514 project again and now its got pointed crown guards.. i dont care if its correct or not but it looks DAMN sexy. Now that i have the dial out, i am going to figure out how far I want to vintageize it.. Im changing the insert also.. the last one was too bleached.. this one will be a little blacker. I'll try to get some pics soon.. still working on the CG metal finishing and sanding.. basicly this.... 5514 thin (submariner size) case with working HEV vintage style square crown guards drilled lug holes clarks t-19 modded insert gen crown/clarks tube gen 2mm springbars. MBW93150 bracelet modded Slowbeat 2846 ETA with datewheel removed. stock dial unmodded so far.. might even change this to an unbranded comex 5514.. I want to get a good stamped comex caseback also OR a plain sub caseback.. not sure yet.
  5. i have the V3 and the one thing i cant stand is that the bezel insert is so shiny that it always looks grey instead of black (so much light reflection) compared to any other sub bezel insert.... i wonder if a V2 insert is different in that regard?
  6. @ BK do you think the regular Noob sub crystal would provide the same effect? I assume the noob sub and exp2 crystals are the same??
  7. oooohhh you just gotta rub that in dont ya? stupid flat top 3!!! One day I'll get it done.. my 1680 needs one too
  8. Not bad for a "beater" watch! ha ha Pretty damn nice franken if you ask me
  9. looking good bro. im still trying to get motivated to work on mine... maybe one day Where are the pushers orig sourced from?
  10. HA HA i laughed when i read that... i was thinking, it must be NICE to have "extra" gen movements just laying around lol
  11. im in british columbia and we've been getting down to about -35c to -40c with wind chill for the past few weeks.. starting to warm up now though.. thats crazy cold. dont like it one bit!
  12. welcome to RWI I as well have been into reps for about 15 yrs.. started with a gold mens rep day date with gold dial.. then bought a couple of submariners, then an Explorer II... i didnt find these forums until a few years ago but its changed by rep collecting experience and the level of my reps has gone from crap to nice frankens with gen parts.. and the funny thing is.. i'm not spending as much on reps as i did 5 yrs ago. lol.. being educated, makes you a smarter shopper.
  13. its that pesky xmas holiday... screwed everything up lol
  14. congratulations everyone!! Keep up the good work!
  15. it looks a lot bigger than i suspected it would be.. looks like a NICE watch!
  16. Apparently all the parts are NOT interchangable... that bring the BIG question to the table... WTF? lol I wonder if they are assembled "dry" or improperly oiled like the A7750?
  17. beautiful watch freddy!!! I absolutely love it. regarding the UV light idea.. what kiind of light do you use and whats the exposure time? I am wanting to try UV on some one my vintage projects to see what i can do with the dials.. I think a combination of heat and UV light would give you that browning effect. The only thing i found with heat is that it will take the "white" away from the lettering. i think UV might be the answer to fade the red lettering if you get the exposure time long enough? dizz
  18. my deepsea had crap all over the bezel also and a little scrubbing with some rubbing alcohol and a cloth and its fine now. This sure was one dirty watch when i received it. Im gunna clean it up well tongiht and give it some polishing.. the finish is terrible especially on the bracelet and clasp. it looks "unfinished" to me.
  19. good luck getting a "real" ETA movement unless its from a dealer that builds custom watches like WM9 or BK or Eurotimez etc. If you buy from any of the "factory supplied" dealers then i doubt there is any ETA stock left. I also DOUBT that watch If you do actually get an ETA it will probably be a refurb or one taken out of another watch. You know when you get an ETA movement and its all rusty?? haha yep used/old/mishandled movement. I also doubt that the movement in that watch mentioned in the first post is real ETA. I just buy Asian now... they all seem to work just fine, especially the non chronograph movements.. even the newer A7750's seem to be more reliable than before
  20. HOLY CRAP!!! now THAT is precision driving!!
  21. looks very good!! Is that the MBW crystal or did you swap it out. You can get a Clarks superdome t-39 for about $40 and it will make a big difference to the "look" of the watch. its a much clearer crystal than the MBW. Its hard to explain until you see it in real life. It adds sparkle and gives it more of a gen feel heres mine with Gen T-39 Superdome and acrylic pearl.
  22. i think the blue color is much nicer than the green for any modern watch. Ive ordered a DSSD and i cant wait to get it to see how the blue looks. I dont expect the lume to be very good, but i am exceited to see the color good info thankyou!
  23. even the most experienced members have gone there and even they have a hard time sorting through the mass amounts of watches and dealers.... If you dont know exactly what you are looking for and how to find it. I would for sure stick with the dealers here as mentioned before.
  24. im not too far from you guys, about 3 hours away... its been fluctuating from -10 to -25 for the past week and snowing!! Just rediculous.
