  1. looks great! I especially like the dial markers and the side shots of the case. I also like how the insert is just slightly aged just so it doesnt look new, yet its not faded too much. The bracelet looks a little "new" compared to the head. A little sandpaper, some rattleing around in a jar of coins and then a nice polishing would add about 20 years of wear to it
  2. what does Yuki charge for a 1680 case? I see he has no prices on his website. I agree that getting a watch from PT and then mod it from there is the best bet. For $200 you cant go wrong with the ETA slow beat and pretty good dial, silver flat top 3 datewheel etc. Thats going to be the base for my next franken for sure. I'll build a red 1680 this way and see how it "feels" compared to my expensive MBW 1680 franken.
  3. very cool and very different. the dial looks great!! Lets see some wrist shots!!
  4. i keep comeing back to this thread and its just awesome! Its inspired me to get back to work on my 5514 comex franken. I recently aquired a nice old, loose and beaten to crap Gen Rolex 9315 Bracelet with 380 end links. It was replaced with a 93150 on a 5512 or 5513 and this one just got thrown in the drawer... Five years later its now mine. Got it for $50 along with 2 leather gen rolex boxes from the 70's and papers and tags etc etc. Pretty good find i thought!! Im working on the final stages of ageing the watch head to match the brutal wear on the bracelet.. i had to get out the BIG rocks and lots of sandpaper. Gunna start the "restoration" tomorrow with some serious polishing. The theme will be "10 years ago service at RWC and they only replaced the crystal, HEV, crown and tube and bezel. Case, bracelet and insert will be trashed showing 40 years of heavy use as a tool watch. After its all done i want to send it to Zig for some vintage tritium markers and matching hands with maybe a little bit of water stain discoloring thrown in just for fun. Im so excited! Thanks Watchmeister and Zig for getting me back on track!! This project has been sitting for over a year half done and in pieces. dizz
  5. you cant see the etched crown on the glass of a real Rolex. only under magnification and perfect lighting conditions. Reps with the crown etched in are an instant "tell" that its a fake.
  6. awesome!! where did you find the 702 tube? The only place that ive seen that has them is ND trading but they are very expensive.
  7. You're not going to be able to do a sapphire crystal but you can go with the factory size T-19 dome acrylic crystal. There are conversion kits out there to put a saphire on that old style case but i have never seen the results, not to mention it issue of water resistance.
  8. The T-19 is usually only found on the 5512 or 5513 non-date Submariner. The taller t-39 is for the sea-dweller with the thicker bezel. I see on al12's pic that the t-19 seems to fit ok though. The superdome is for sure my favorite. Unfortunately most of them were lost during RSC visits
  9. I am unable to PM anyone for some reason but i am interested if you have an extra one laying around. I would maybe use it on my 5514 Comex project.
  10. i have infact seen this clasp in real life on a 1665... i cant remember if it was a comex or a double red... i dont think it was on a single red but might have been.. it was a long time ago, before Paul was selling his. I remember reading something about this clasp years and years ago on the old TURF forum also. This style clasp was definately produced by Rolex but in very limited numbers. James Dowling on Time Zone would be the guy to ask about this one maybe Edit - aahhhh YES the Japanese rolex book.. thats another place i saw it.
  11. Haven't worn mine in a while.. time to put it on! 1665 DRSD with some mods
  12. i read on Timezone a while ago that they changed the listed size to 44mm for this year. I know it used to be 43mm and now it is for sure listed as 44mm. I doubt they changed the watch itself. Seems odd and would be interesting to find out why.
  13. Not sure.. if the screw broke off then its probably in there pretty freekin tight. Can you remove that link also? Email the dealer you got the watch from and see if he can send you a couple extra llinks and a couple screws, then replace the damaged parts on your bracelet. If you cant remove the link, ask your dealer to send you a new bracelet and email him a picture of your broken screw and where its sheered off. Sounds like a warranty issue to me if you cant fix it yourself
  14. I just typed out a big story about why i dont like the size of the DSSD.... then i hit my back button on my laptop track pad and its all gone basicly i dont like the DSSD.. feels very unbalanced to me.. The watch head (43mm) is way to big for the small bracelet they put on it. My 48mm super avenger is much more balanced feeling when onn the wrist.
  15. Looks interesting.. what did you use for the dome crystal??
  16. its doing it again... very slow but just on the main page or trying to navigate away from it.
  17. seized 24,000 watches, and enough parts to make a million more? WOW thats a LOT of parts

    WM9

most of these dealers process so many orders that i dont see how they can send emails to everyone and answer all the "where's my watch?" emails. They would have to hire someone just to sit in front of a pc and respond to emails all day long lol I wouldnt worry yet.. give it another couple weeks dizz
  19. Send me your WM9 sub, and i'll send you a brand new swiss eta vintage plexi 1680 submariner in trade!!! ...and NO, you cannot put a plexi crystal on that WM9.. not even close. dizz
  20. Weird. Looks like green tint like u say. Next time I'm at the AD I'll have to look closer at this one
  21. thats not AR On the gen its a slightly green tinted crystal, on most reps its just a green crystal gasket that gives a green tint to the edge of the crystal... someone correct me if im wrong, but i know its definatly not AR
  22. WHY WHY WHY??? I cant believe they dont AR them... WTF I read somewhere that they want the light to reflect off the crystal for a sparkling look.. i dont know if i buy that or not. I also read that it was a durability issue.. I know double AR can scratch but why dont they just do single AR on the underside? There has got to be a REAL reason why they dont do it. I agree it would make the dial look 10x better on ANY Rolex.
  23. Congrats man! I just passed an aniversary also... wow time sure goes by quick! dizz
  24. RG is a sales forum. So yes numbers make or break them. Who cares how many members you have? I would rather see 100 new contributing members than 500 "whos got the best submariner" members. Not that its a bad thing, but its just what they are. A place for noobs to buy a Submariner... Then they come here or to RWI to learn how to mod it. lol Theres very little knowledge there... just everyone buying and selling and driving up rep prices... just one reason why i dont go there anymore. When you are on this forum or on RWI you see frankens and people modding and asking questions and solving problems... Go into the Rolex section here and look at the types of questions and threads... then go to RG and look in the rolex section.. big difference. Like it was already said above... Quality over quantity. I dont care if i get banned. I havent logged in there in over a year anyways... dizz [edited for spelling]
  25. "Give me a bucket of chicken... family size." hahaha
