  1. You destroyed your replica bracelet, so you took it to the AD to get it repaired???
  2. i notice that if i wake up in the middle of the night, my watch is always a lot more snug on my wrist because i am all warm and comfy in bed. When its cold i find my watch is much looser. this is exactly why i like the new Rolex guidelock clasp so much
  3. i find the waiting for the watch itself is more frustrating that anything.. after that its fun finding and waiting for parts to arrive. A lot of times i'll be in a big hurry to get a new watch, then it sits around and takes me a year to mod it haha
  4. Whoa good luck with that lol. I dont know how easy it would be to 'shave' down a ceramic insert without destroying it? Let me know how that works out. I cant really find any good pics to show the flat black dial.. the gen has a flat black dial like an old 1680 or 1665. The rep deepseas have shiny gloss dials like the 16600. When you see a gen deepsea in real life its a very obvious difference between the two. Maybe i can find someone who does good quality redials and see if they can redo it flat black... EDIT - I just found some pics on Timezone.. this thread shows some good shots of how flat black the dial is compared to our reps Deepsea flat black dial pics on TZ
  5. Nothin hey? nobody out there cares about modding Deepseas? lol
  6. ive got a t19 on a 1680 submariner and it looks GREAT!! Im really starting to dislike that cyclops they use. Im starting to like sea-dwellers more and more. Ive seen guys put t39 super domes on submariners also and it looks kinda cool.. yet silly at the same time. There is a Japanese rolex website all about superdomes on submariners if you are looking for pics.
  7. haha thats a good story. BUT i think we're gunna need to see some pics of this bad boy!!!
  8. you can tell right away by the end links. Looks gen according to your pics.
  9. wow expensive!! nice find regardless. I wonder if he has any 702 triplock tubes
  10. LOL As long as its not that creepy old scratchy 40's (i think) music like in the videogame Bioshock.. that stuff scares the hell outta me.
  11. Wow AD service isnt all its cracked up to be hey? I am sooooooo jelous of your dial.. i have the same dial in my 1680 franken but with the orig tritium.. i think i might have to make an appointment with The Zigmeister to get this done. It looks fantastic!!! Good work!! dizz
  12. gotta be careful with emails from paypal and ebay... they will give you some story, provide you a convenient link to click on to take you to their login page... BUT its a FAKE link leading to a replica page that looks identical to the paypal page.. you have to check the url and make sure its actually https://www.paypal.com/login or whatever and not somthing like https://www.abc123.paypal.com/login The s after the http because it should be a secure site like a bank. Know what i mean? If you go to the fake page and try to login without knowing... BAM they have your user/password. dizz
  13. Theres another thread here about a posting on the Rolex Forums today about the dude to busted his gen GMT IIc 18kt bezel and broke the insert ... blah blah anyways the Rolex AD is trying to soak him for huge $$$ to fit it. CLose to $2000 inc servicing, everyone over there is getting confused about the issue and the orig poster is getting upset... whaetever... now apparently a replacement part (bezel only) is avail from Rolex AD (if you have access to a parts account) but its anywhere from $250-400 apparently according to several sources. Does anyone have a gen DSSD and can measure (with digital calipers please) the inside and outside diameter of the ceraminc bezel insert?? I wonder if a gen insert would fit into my v3 DSSD? It would sure make a big difference. Might be tough to "shave" the insert to fit so it may be a case of putting the bezel onto a laythe and taking off some material. At the same time i want to get my crystal double AR coated. Im also gunna run some rests on spraying matt varnish on some glossy old daytona rep dials to see if i can get my super glossy dial to look like the correct flat black gen dial. Should look like an old 1665 or 1680 dial.. flat black... big mistake on a so called 1:1 rep hey? Any thoughts/ideas before i tear this thing down for modding?
  14. i was just thinking about swapping my stainless bezel on to my Newman... I dont know which way looks better! i cant deciede!
  15. We do... well except the bezel insert is really in correct and oh yeah the EASIEST way to tell this 1:! rep from a gen? The gen has a flat black dial and the rep has a super glossy black dial. Its a very big difference thats easily noticable once you see and compare them. I wonder if some flat, matt finish varnish would help...
  16. i was reading this thread this morning.. like buddy said.. if it falls just right, then there is a lot of G-forces on the side of the bezel or watch case etc etc. In his case he must have bent the 18kt bezel and thats why the high cost. But you know rolex.. they will replace EVERYTHING and bill you for it. If i were him, i would get it sent back, order the insert for $250 or whatever they finally agree that its worth, and take it to a local watchmaker.
  17. HA HA thats funny Jetmid sure was 'special' lol
  18. 14kt gold will just wear off slower. Some say that "wrapped" it just a fancy term for THICKER gold plating. Keep in mind that 14kt gold looks different than 18kt gold.. 18kt is more yellow, so 14kt plating might not look right compared to a gen rolex.
  19. ive got the camera in pieces drying it out.. we'll see what happens in a few days I can see my Deepsea over in the corner and its snickering and laughing at the camera for dying such and easy death
  20. too bad the limit was only a dozen each ... Need to build a bigger time machine next time I would just go back to EVERY AD i could find and buy everything they had in stainless steel. Im sure i'd scoop up a couple COMEX's along the way
  21. Thats pretty much what i did.. on my hands and knees gasping as the camera fell into the water!! Thats ok its pretty funny. I had to laugh too Anyways.. the DSSD is still alive and ticking.. no moisture no signs of fogging. BUT the camera didnt do so well.. shes soaked inside and out Oh well i needed a new camera anyways Final Score - swimming test DSSD 1 - Camera 0 dizz
  22. Why would a factory make a rep of a Seiko? How much profit can there actually be in repping a gen watch that costs $120 to buy from Wallmart? You'd have to sell it for $10 retail? lol If you're gunna break the law, you may as well go for it and rep something good Anything to make a buck i guess
  23. In 1996 the 1680's were even cheaper by a couple hundred bucks.. i wish i could go back 12 yrs and scoop up all the vintage rollies i could get my hands on.. mortgage the house and spend a 50 or 100 grand on certain watches... today they would be worth MILLIONS or buy all the comex and... wow.
  24. Yeah there are no reps made in Switzerland or Italy.. all marketing [censored]. There is no Grade A, Grade 1, "swiss case" 1:1 triple AAA.. Different factories make different quality replicas. Out of the thousands of factories there are probably only a handfull that make what we call "super reps". Thats why you stick with the dealers here on the forums, then you know what you're gunna get. They are all mass produced in Chinese factorys like ken says.
  25. Just get the Asian clone version and i would go with the v3 becasue it has the correct clasp with the little indent etc. No WM9 doesnt make one of these. Maybe later in 2009 but it wont be anytime soon.
