The new vintage submariner 1680 from Puretime is a pretty good platorm to start with and an excellent rep out of the box. In some ways its more accurate than the MBW. If you are looking for a comex watch then might i recommend the 5514 no date comex submariner.. Its a nice one to start with. If you want a Rolex wthout the comex logo then i would go for the 1680 vintage from Puretime for $199. ETA swiss movement, proper datewheel, proper bracelet and lug holes.. It depends what you want to spend? you can spend $200 or you can spend $1800 to get one (heavily modded) with a genuine rolex movement, dial, crown, bezel insert etc 5512, 5513, 5514 are non-date vintage subs 1680 is vintage sub with date 1665 is the vintage sea-dweller 16610 is the newer submariner with saphire crystal. dizz

wow thats a great deal!!! Those are going for about $4500+usa right now Yes the nipple dial is a different dial that was found on the 1680/8 all gold rolex. This is just the later model 5513 dial with white gold surrounds. Thats a triplock on there as Polexpete mentioned. The old triplocks seem to have the beveled inside shape of the older twinlocks (line under the crown). I have a feeling that the old triplocks fit on the 702 tubes and thats why we see these old triplocks on tubes without thread gaskets. I could be wrong, but all the gen forums seem to have different answers. dizz

Thats kinda the same thing i built for my father except I used to Tudor case with a datejust redial and the original Tudor ETA movement. I wouldnt bother putting in a gen movement because the ETA 2824 is going to be a pretty reliable engine, easy to service and will keep good time. :whistling:Nobody is going to see the movement anyways right?

Apparently it is... look at the last pic above.. looks like the lug hole is about 1mm from breaking through the end of the lug. Thats horrible. Angus should souce them from the factory that builds the one for Josh so he can get the folded bracelet. Unless this is a prototype, I'll have to order mine from Josh i guess. Its a way better case to start with. dizz

Hey guys Where would i buy some new pins for my oyster fliplocks? I need the pin at the clasp that holds the fliplock in place. It looks like a rivet or a 2 piece pin that slides into itself like a sleeve. ive never seen these on the sites that sell springbars and links and stuff. Can someone point me in the right direction? I have a gen and two rep bracelets that need this pin to reattach the fliplock and bring the bracelet back to life. Sorry if this is a dumb question but believe it or not i have never had to replace one before dizz

refinishing is easy, but if the links are getting loose and worn then you can send it to get restored. Maybe someone can recommend someone who can tighten up those links. A good rep bracelet would work in the meantime until your gen is repaired. dizz

93150 with hollow midlinks and 580 end links if you want the older style 93250 with SEL for newer solid end link style. Noobfactory submariners would be a good doner bracelet, or if you want to spend a few more bucks you could source a WM9 bracelet. If you are putting this on a gen sub, then the floppy end link bracelet would stand a better chance of fitting, or the WM9 with SEL should be close if not correct. Not sure if the noob bracelet springbar holes will line up. You would have to drill out the noob bracelet to fit the gen 2mm spring bars. I drilled one out before and there wasnt much metal left, i dont know if i would trust it to hold an expensive gen head. dizz

hopefully its just a prototype. The lug holes are way too high and what about the crystal height?? Looks a little extreme. I would replace the crystal with a clarks anyways so thats not an issue for me, but those lug holes are are. Hopefully he can get this ironed out because i am planning this to be my next project. As for the bracelet, the folded "looks" better but this style has more weight and feels better on the wrist. Any suggestions on the dial from the dial masters??? At first glance it looks better than Josh's.... Hows the case thickness for a 1655? dizz

well said. I agree I bought a DSSD with asian 2836 and its been fine so far. I'd stay away from the Rolex look a like movements.

I know what you mean Ubi... i finally finished my 5514 project that i started THREE years ago!!! I used to HATE the light folded bracelets and now i cant get this thing off my wrist! Im absolutely lovin it! I'll post some pics when i get back home next week. dizz

I think your LV looks awesome with the black insert! If i was to buy another gen 16610 i would certainly buy an LV and swap in the black insert. The maxi dial and hands look MUCH better IMHO compared to the reg 16610. The only thing that might deter me would be the much higher price of an LV sub to begin with.

On the pic that Freddy posted, it almost looks like someone took a grinder and neatly removed the "patented" stamp. Interesting.. I could be wrong but thats sorta what it looks like

I agree 100%... BT also... Even they guys that DO know Rolex, dont know half as much as the guru's here and on the other replica forums. I think us replica builder guys get pretty picky when i comes to the details that most gen watch collectors wouldn't even notice. dizz

Thats cool i would keep that for sure!!! If not send it to me! I love things like that. I can see how a dealer would miss that when/if they do QC. Not his fault. QC is prob more concerned about date wheels, time keeping, bracelets falling off etc dizz
