  1. Thanks Thor, I am more interested in how accurate or otherwise the dial spacing is, than in destroying a gen dial? I think a 116500 made this way is in my future. A clone 4130 would be marvellous, but I bet it would be twelve months after release before it's reliable
  2. That is brilliant news and a fantastic write up. I've given you a like and would give you a dozen if I could. Remind me, would a 7750 take a genuine dial without feet, in other words are the sub dial spacings the same?
  3. eBay springs to mind or maybe just ask around friends and family first and see what anyone has in a draw somewhere that they haven't got around to throwing out. I started out by being gifted a bunch of broken Seikos by an ex-watchmaker, which was great because there is a lot of interchangeability in the parts. A Datejust could be a great project to start out with. Alternatively any of the Trusted Dealers could sell you a rep of the Datejust or Cellini. The problem with the dual time is what movement to use. If you do buy a pocket watch, a useful tip is that parts supply for American pocket watch movements is incredible, while English and Swiss ones are hard to find parts for.
  4. Well I'm no blind watchmaker, but I have learned a little over the years. A great place to start is to try and get hold of a couple of broken mechanical watches and maybe a cheap broken pocket watch. Pocket watches are great, because a lot of the basics are the same, but everything is bigger. You can practice decaseing the movement without causing further damage. If it is already broken, then there is nothing to loose and eventually you will get one working again (that's a great feeling) These two threads may be of interest to you:- Replica watches is what this forum is about. If one of our members can't point you in the right direction to buy any particular replica watch or associated part it is because it doesn't exist. However we all have wider horological interests and once you decide which direction you wish to take on your first build project, I'm sure we will be able to point you in the direction of suitable parts. I'm not being coy with information, but there are simply too many variables to list everything. If that were possible we would already have posted it I'm sure
  5. Well, short answer yes, Long answer, if we know more about what you are wanting to do, we can direct you better. Are you wanting to build one off watches for your own pleasure or are you wanting to do a small run and maybe sell? Unless you are experienced working on watches, a good place to start might be with Unitas or Unitas clone movements because they are larger. This would open up the world of Panerai replicas as well as one off designs along the pilot watch design. I have an number of useful contacts and will certainly help all I can if I understand better your needs.
  6. No Customs problems anyway because I live right on the North/South border. I can, if it becomes necessary receive a watch in one country and post it on from the other? Besides, the way the negotiations are going, we could all be old and grey before anything noticeable happens.
  7. So this started out as a conversation between @Mike on a bike and me, then moved into a discussion in the Mods Lounge. It is no real secret that we would like to see this place grow and thrive, we wouldn't be very good Mods if we didn't, so we are often looking at and talking about ways we can improve the forum, attract new members, keep existing members coming back and increase the number of posts. Since I was unexpectedly made a member of the crew here, I have always taken the position that I am here to serve the forum, which essentially means the members and it seemed to me that perhaps we should open up a bit about what we do and what we discuss. I'm a big fan of transparency and accountability. My fellow Mods concurred, so here it is. The following few posts are more or less verbatim of what we discussed between ourselves. the less being that obviously we use our real names and have a policy of not doing so on the public forum, though of course many of you know my name and I now know a good few of you. I guess we are trying to get an understanding of the situation and yes there is a bit of moaning too, but if anyone has concrete suggestions for improving the forum and increasing both the post count and visitors numbers, we are very willing to give them serious consideration.
  8. Hello and welcome to our community, I'm sure you will find a wealth of information here. Anything in particular you can't find an answer to, please don't be afraid to ask
  9. I rather like the dial and hands. I guess it fits well here as part of your introduction to the forum, otherwise General Discussion. I would personally be fascinated to hear the story, but if it is not a one off and you are planning to sell watches, may I please ask for no direct sales pitch at least until you are better known on the forum.
  10. Hello and welcome to our community. There are plenty of us here have a love of Seiko and I think a few own Steinharts. Browsing the forums in your free time will give you a wealth of information on replica watches, but don't be afraid to ask if you are not finding a specific answer.
  11. The Speedy from Trusty Time? Have you contacted him about issue!
  12. Any of the Trusted Dealers can get the same watches. You will not find one with a high grade ETA movement. If you pay for a Swiss ETA movement, you will most likely get a dirty, worn old movement pulled from an old watch, possibly repaired with Chinese parts. Far better to settle for a Chinese ETA clone, which isn't a bad movement at all. Since it is a clone movement, it would be a simple job for a watchmaker to swap the movement to a Swiss ETA at some later stage, though probably not really necessary.
  13. @JoeyB might be able to help you out on that
  14. I keep a little notebook of any snippets of information that might prove useful. Stem heights, useful movements, what fits what, suppliers, contact details for members I know well and so on. One night I started to go through and write down the name and websites of all the TDs on all the fora. There is some overlap, but if you are a member in good standing on all four there is a huge choice. We strongly recommend sticking with TDs, if they are a TD on this forum, we can help if there is a problem. If you go with a TD from another board, it would be wise to belong on that forum too, then their Mods can do the same if necessary. I have bought from Perfect Clones/Josh quite a few times and so far, I've not had anything to complain about. He is one of our dealers by the way www.pf-818.com
  15. That is an achievement and a watch to be very proud of. You can scrub the "Noob" from your thread titles now, work like that commands respect
  16. Ciao e benvenuto Please tell us more about the design and build process.
  17. Thank you Mary, you are a diamond. Maybe work something out by PM now guys.
  18. It is a rep of a 116618, so that is a start. I take it it didn't come from a dealer of the forum or one from another forum? You could try PM @marywatch She has been very helpful in the past with this sort of thing.
  19. Some details would help us to help you. What model Sub is it a rep of? Where did it come from and when roughly? Is it solid, plated or wrapped gold? A picture may help.
  20. Hello and welcome to the community. I guess which forum one prefers depends on what one is seeking. We are a quiet backwater without the drama or to be honest, volume of traffic found on RWI. We do have some very genuine gentlemen as members and we have a huge depth of knowledge between us. Anyway, I hope you enjoy your time with us and look forward to knowing you.
  21. Sorry Freddy I didn't notice your link. Like I said I'm 20 years out of date on PCs, but I think legacy hardware will always be a bottleneck and dictate the speed.
