What is it about Rolex....that annoys you?

DSSD. To me it looks cobbled together rather than designed.

If we're talking about reps, bad dial errors and datewheel overlay fonts. I think generally though the reps are getting better, seems to be a number now that take gen parts.

If we're talking gens, the price. They are way overpriced, good as they are.

I use to hate the date magnifiers, but I got use to it. If it's made to provide a good magnification, I can live with it. If it does not, then it's a bit annoying. What bothers me the most is no matter if you buy a gen or a super rep, people's first impression always it's probably a fake. :(

The things I don't like about them, are that they mar the line of the crystal, and unless you're looking at the watch at the right angle, they can often obscure the date window rather than magnifying it :bangin:

Yeah. That's the benefit of highly vintagized reps - before I found this forum I always assumed (probably rightly most of the time) that beat-up old Rolexes had to be gen :thumbsupsmileyanim:

What annoys me with Rolex is their lack of self-confidence as far as launching completely new models and movements is concerned. I understand the strategy, but as a "consumer" I'd like to see a super-dooper-smooth in-house-movement like the spring drive (smoothness being a tangible Rolex trait) on a innovative yet no-nonsense beater model. They seem to be very passive - as category leaders they have an obligation and an opportunity to take charge of the category. DSSD isn't motivated by leadership, but by fear of what others are doing.

Best part of Rolex - the mythology, craftmanship and a few vintage models.

What fascinated me about Rolex was the longevity of classic models like Submariner and GMT Master and their stubborness to do things their own way. They were basically static for 40 years. Then they decided that they had to go with the trends and changed to these "fat lugs" models. In my eyes, they lost a lot of their integrity in the process.

Mastergod said that "DSSD isn't motivated by leadership, but by fear of what others are doing.". I totally agree. I wouldn't mind if these new models actually were improvements over the old designs, but besides the new clasp they aren't.

It's ironic... for decades people whine that they never change, but when they do it's even worse. :D

Vintage Models: Bracelet quality (I love the looks, but to be honest Rolex bracelets have been a weak spot, prone to stretching, etc)

Current/New Models: Price, Fat Lugs, Maxi-Dials (proportions in general), bling factor. Putting "Gas Escape..." on the front of the DSSD.

Rolex as a company: RSC policies regarding service. Lack of vintage support. Failure to recognize classic models and do modern re-releases. (Although recent Tudor releases might change this)

Vintage models like Sub/SD or GMT/Explorer etc... I am 100% O.K these watches tell a story, have spirit.

Modern Rolex ? These ugly fat cases ? shinny bracelets ?

Vulgar.

Listen this, no offence, thats just the reality :

If you come in France with a modern Rolex at your wrist, wear long sleeve shirts, don't expect people looking at you with admiration in a party, don't expect girls and success, you will just look like a has been poser, even with a simple Submariner which is the sign to reconize jews here, again no offence, just to explain that in France we don't really appreciate these tribes with guys wearing thick gold neck chains, Subs, DSSD and GMT IIC and rep blond girls (we call them Barbie doll/Christmas trees) wearing Daytonas

Maybe you take watches a wee bit too seriously, or alternatively hang around with wrong kind of "surface" people?

I have never met a woman who has commented my watch, or even recognized it. The stereotype of a woman who would probably notice a Rolex (and choose his man because of his watch), would be someone who "swims in dirty waters". For money.

If someone wears a watch to seek "admiration and success" I think he should get his head examined.

That "jews" comment was really stupid too.

I've heard a similar thing said about that's how Rolexes are viewed in Spain as well.

Not a fan of the vintage models and subs myself, though I love, love, love the look and feel of my DSSD. I even have the incorrect 10 date spacing on the V5 ult. and it just adds to the charm.

Now about the older Rolex, my buddy has a gen sub from the 70's though I don't like the feel of the bracelet (feels thin and cheap) and find the watch wears a little small.

When people see the DSSD there are mixed comments. I wear it on a zulu bond and some girls have asked if it's a fake because of the nylon strap etc. I just tell them it's much more comfortable than the SS bracelet in the summer. :)

I did have another friend comment on the DSSD and say, hey Rolex finally got it, they started making proper sized watches. Then again, he wears a briet and it wears small on his wrist.

By Tor, I know you are very intelligent and a great Rolex specialist, but just stay away from me with your stupid suppositions, first you don't know me, second you dont live in France and you don't know nothing about our way of life/culture and how Rolex watches owners are considered here

Gran, Jerry is not a good exemple, USA is not France. You should read a little about jews people origin and culture, then come in Paris and walk down the streets with a bling Rolex, you will understand very fast
