Akira Posted July 25, 2014 Report Posted July 25, 2014 A few years ago I owned a DW Mystery Movement 6263 of the first generation. I really loved it! Unfortunately it broke a year after I've bought it and I was never able to get it repaired. Since I'm not willing to drop $$$ on a V72 I had to look for other options. Chi did a review on how to modify the ST-19 to accept a gen size dial, so I started to look into it further. Rolojack did great mods to a 6238 too. So I did the following to the Cartel 6263: - slimmed down the mid-case - slimmed the Cartel hands as they are too wide - modified the case to accept a DW bezel - retapped the case to accept a 702 tube - retapped the case to accept DW's pusher - modified the pushers to reach the ST-19 movement - modified the movement to accept the DW dial - modified the bezel to fit genuine tropic - install a genuine coronet on the dial - install a genuine 702 crown - install a genuine 7836 bracelet - install a genuine T21 So there it is: Anyways...more to come A 4
droptopman Posted July 25, 2014 Report Posted July 25, 2014 Wow that looks awesome. What a show of perseverance and patience....and skills. Sent from my droptop using telepathy.
Lolex_panelai Posted July 25, 2014 Report Posted July 25, 2014 Wow, what a gorgeous thing. Great skills and passion :notworthy: This is giving hope for a proper gold pn on basis of the new cartellies some day Akira - a legend is born
ogladio Posted July 25, 2014 Report Posted July 25, 2014 There's nothing I love more then when guys here take something fairly cheap and crappy and transform it. This is right up there in the hall of fame of such transformations. Fantastic work! 1
andygt Posted July 25, 2014 Report Posted July 25, 2014 (edited) Top work as always, that black dial on the left looks rather nice too... Edited July 25, 2014 by andygt
Niko Posted July 26, 2014 Report Posted July 26, 2014 Great work. Congratulations, it came out really good. N.
WCM21_88 Posted July 26, 2014 Report Posted July 26, 2014 Superb work my friend looks awesome, lol I knew there was "decent" potential in these Cartel Daytonas I'm sure it's all about patience and perseverance. -cheers
blue. Posted July 26, 2014 Report Posted July 26, 2014 (edited) A pleasure to see such great results, on a budget basis! If only the DW parts were abailable through other trusted dealers, it would habe been great for such builds. A pleasure to see such great results, on a budget basis! rolojack Posted July 26, 2014 Report Posted July 26, 2014 Congratulations !!!! I'm doing a similar job right now and it is not an easy task at all !!!! Mostly if you don't like unproperly done mods such as poor drillings and glued stuff.... About my 6238, it is now dismanteled as I'll have the mid case modified again : pushers holes welded, and reopened with the correct size as is was originally made for screw down pushers.... It that goes well, I'll share my experience !
ThePunisherXIX Posted July 26, 2014 Report Posted July 26, 2014 It's a really really great Job Akira, Your watch now it's incredible beautiful pieces! I really want a make one like yours, i have the V72 dial, now i'm going to order the cartel daytona! Anyone can help me for found a modder to make this great work in EU?
Akira Posted July 31, 2014 Author Report Posted July 31, 2014 Thanks a bunch for the compliments! I really think that with the right parts and a lot of work - the Cartel case can be a viable option for those who don't want to break the bank. I mean - it's still not a cheap build though Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Cheers! Edited November 15, 2014 by SuperDanX
Bc1221 Posted November 16, 2014 Report Posted November 16, 2014 Hrmm. I got a cartel 6265 on the way. Was thinking of modding it. I was just gonna put a 702 crown in it but this looks fantastic! What all do you have to do to get a dw bezel on there and how did you slim the small hands? Great work
508-Fanatic Posted November 16, 2014 Report Posted November 16, 2014 To quote Peter Griffin "Sir, here is a check with my name on it, put down any number and I will gladly pay it!!"
Bc1221 Posted November 16, 2014 Report Posted November 16, 2014 And anyone know where I can get a acrylic bezel? The one I bought is coming with a steel bezel and I'd much rather have the acrylic.
panerai153 Posted November 17, 2014 Report Posted November 17, 2014 And anyone know where I can get a acrylic bezel? The one I bought is coming with a steel bezel and I'd much rather have the acrylic. There is a guy on Ebay watchNY who sells 6263 bezels that are much better than the old DW bezel. Akira, that is a beautiful job, basically you took a bucket full of lemons and made some delicious lemonade!! Well done sir. Fore the life of me. I cannot figure out why someone hasn't been able to source the "DW Daytonas". I doubt that DW was building them himself, so out there somewhere is a manufacturer that builds those nice Daytonas, looking for a sales person to peddle his watches!! 1
Akira Posted November 17, 2014 Author Report Posted November 17, 2014 As this post is already a couple of months old, I did not expect the new spark of interest Must be all those Daytona threads that were coming up recently... Thanks for the compliments folks. It's a piece of work, but well worth it in the end - considering what V72's go for these days. I hope to complete the 6239 black dial and 6264 PN this year. Next year I will build the 6240 black dial for myself. Hrmm. I got a cartel 6265 on the way. Was thinking of modding it. I was just gonna put a 702 crown in it but this looks fantastic! What all do you have to do to get a dw bezel on there and how did you slim the small hands? Great work Pretty much re-machining the bezel lip. The hands have been slimmed with a jewelers file by hand. Difficult to explain - steady hands and good eyes... 1
HaydenM Posted November 17, 2014 Report Posted November 17, 2014 Cannot wait to see the Paul Newman Daytona.
Mike on a bike Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 Got my hands on one Akira build big crown, never should have sold it. Top shelf builds.
SuperDanX Posted November 22, 2014 Report Posted November 22, 2014 (edited) Thanks for the info Akira Where can I get a decent dial? Edited November 22, 2014 by SuperDanX
