  1. I'm locking this topic and I edited out the URL from the original post. If someone is truly a bad workman their errors won't remain hidden. He wouldn't be able to hide here or elsewhere. So it is unnecessary to post a witch hunt here from another site. People here would already know about it and word of mouth would expose the guy. Leave the witch hunts to the kiddie fora and we'll continue to act like gentlemen and grownups here.

  3. Micky is unquestionably the single best watch smith I have come across and a top guy to boot. Micky does lots of work for me and has my full unquestionable support and trust which is not given lightly or frequently, Legend and MoaB have the same to put it in context! Regards AJ

  6. Good morning fellow enthusiasts, Been working on this one for a while. I was lucky enough to acquire a great dial from a great member. Everything (but a movement) is with or on the way to dbane for his very talented skills to bring to life. After much discussion we decided on an MQ case set, gen spec dial, gen crown and tube, and gen crystal. Looking for a "perfect" gen insert but have not come up with one yet, so initially may have a Phong red triangle. Planning to use a black horween strap with red stitching (need to swap a Rolex buckle in), also have a Yuki 7206, but may source a gen rivet at some point. My vision for this piece really has it sporting a red stitch strap with the red depth rating dial and red triangle insert. Here is my dilemma: Was planning on using a 1030 cal all along, but a friend has suggested to take an ETA and remove the base plate and cut holes for gen feet to keep the gen spec dial in tact. Would have to modify the hands to fit but this is also doable. I have been looking for a 1030 for some time now and not having much luck. Run across potential donor watches with 1030, but really do not want to destroy a vintage Rolex just to get the movement. Obviously the ETA option saves me about 1K and is easily accessible, but I also plan to keep this watch so the expense is not as much of a factor as finding the movement now, and then being able to service it in the future. Thoughts from the collective are encouraged and welcomed. Here are a couple pics: Thanks

  10. Hello everyone, I've been a member here for a little while but not posted much, just thought I'd say hi and see what's happening here. I've been into reps for a few years now, bought and sold a few along the way, and just beginning to dip my toe into the homage builds. Thanks for having me here chaps

  12. I don't believe we should start policing the sales boards and telling people what they can or can't charge for a piece, let the market decide. I can list for whatever I want but if nobody is willing to pay that price the demand goes down and I drop the price. We should be careful dictating what people can or can't can't charge. Case in point, take the Mazda Miata (MX5) when it first came out in 1989 I believe, dealers were charging double MSRP and people were happily paying it, also the Dodge Viper comes to mind as well (for some strange reason we always come back to cars as an example) but that's just how things work. I used to buy and sell vintage Rolex, I would spend countless hours scouring different forums, eBay and local dealers and if I found a good deal I would buy it and resell it, why should this be a problem? Now, what I do find wrong is someone charging exorbitant prices for for a piece to an unsuspecting or unknowledgeable buyer, that is just plain wrong and it's taking advantage of the buyer. 14. From what I have heard I would stay away from most of the TDs when they claim Swiss ETA. It is preferable that they don't give you one as most probably the Swiss ETA delivered would be quite old stock and not up to satisfactory quality. The clones are typically good and if the clone won't cut it for you you could always purchase a swiss ETA on the side and transplant it in. As for the best sub, you're one step above the general newb question but I'd encourage looking through the sites of the TDs and finding a model there that you like and then posting asking about that model as opposed to asking the very general question. Good luck for the search mate

  15. I for one couldn't give a stuff about some over cooked military history. Sly brought this brand to the world and I doubt he gave a stuff about a couple of Italian fascists sitting on some Fiat powered underwater penis looking sub. If anything Panerai these days seems to want to associate itself with the sailing world which is really where its heritage actually stems from, which is Nautical instruments. The military slant is lame

  17. Sorry to disagree, but their roots were withering. Very few liked Panerai prior to the early 1990's. The company was going bankrupt. Stallones promotion and Richmounts purchase is all that saved them. I think the balance is swinging back there once again.(but not as far as bankruptcy) These days there will always be someone to buy them,as people bought Studebaker and Edsel.(just not enough) The fandom in the rep world exists because you can get a rep very cheap that is virtually a clone of the very expensive gen.(and may continue even if gen sales drop) As far as in house movements go,they have yet to be proven over decades of use. 23. The best dealers are here on this forum. Always remember what this hobby is: buying and selling contraband items. If you can grasp the nature of the thing, it becomes more clear to you what to expect. All the dealers on this site can be trusted with your orders. Some have great web sites, and some have NO web site. Some dealers here receive more negative feedback than others. This can be caused by trying to grow too quickly and losing control of your business or being small to begin with and trying to handle the flow of orders from these large forums. Some dealers are "companies" and some are one-person shops. The dealers mostly buy the exact same watches from the factories or from a watch bazaar. Moving from dealer to dealer will not improve the quality of a watch replica. That said, some dealers cater to the low end, offering mostly quartz or a21j watches. That is by design, and not because their "factory" builds worse replicas ... it's marketing to a different crowd of buyers. The speed of delivery depends on a few things .. did you want to pay for EMS courier shipping or will you only pay for Air Mail (5 days or two weeks, your choice) .. also is it a pre-order of a hot piece, where you will have to wait a few weeks for the watch to become available due to the huge demand. All the dealers here "stand behind" their sales, since it's a prerequisite to being a trusted dealer. You get an opportunity to reject a watch on a cosmetic basis via approval photos sent before shipment. Then if it arrives to you broken you have the option of returning it for repair or replacement. If it is seized by Customs in your country, it will normally be replaced (ONCE) free of charge. About communication: Some dealers are much better with this than others. A rule of thumb, tho, is that dealers who are willing to hold your hand and spoon feed you also charge the most money for their watches.
