  1. 10-12 years ago you could still get a 5513 or 14060 for $2-$3k saw a 70s 5513 for sale on vrf when the forum started asking $1700 or best offer. bracelet alone is now close to that and a phong 5513 build would exceed that. air kings could be had for $1200 and no one wanted that dominos one. now speedmasters and every rolex is creepin up. the precision is still an ok price
  2. those MK II watches are very nice indeed was eyeing the MK II Nassau before the black bay came along. still kind of am...
  3. theyre still great value and probably built as well as multi thousand $$ tag heuers in all honesty. i paid $350 for a black bay rep and i think it was worth every cent better materials, feel and assembly as any other watch for the same $350 price. compare it to a used longines or hamilton for that price. once non franken reps hit $1k im out though.
  4. i do 1.25mm its perfect. 1.20mm sometimes doesnt line up straight and the spring bar doesnt poke through properly
  5. all very good points actually. to get a mould made is at least $500 right away. 3D printing is not good enough for what were trying to do imo. we'd probably go through several moulds to get it right. the cartel 5513 is pretty damn good as is. maybe a if we did go this route of making our own a big crown case would probably be the next useful one that can be transformed into several other vintage models. there isnt a good cheap alternative and the case has pretty basic shapes, no crown guards to get right and a simple bezel
  6. tons of subs 'round dealers are full of it. always making up some tale to sell you some stock thats in their best interests. most recent one ive been to kept going on about price increases as a reason to buy now. then theres the whole creating the daytona shortage so they could charge above list price when the dealers themselves were hoarding them in their safes while they appreciated in price. dislike every rolex ad ive been into, theres a sense of pretentiousness and condescension no doubt. almost feels as if im playing a table game at a casino and trying to beat the house.
  7. i'd say 5513. its the most versatile and everyone loves a vintage sub a 5513 can be a: 5513 5512 5514 with valve drilled tudor subs slim mid case for a 1665 w/valve drilled and a 1680 in capable hands
  8. $3K !!!! you can get a used black bay for that and maybe an Oris 65
  9. everytime i see this watch i just think how amazing it looks and how far the sub reps have come. even the modern ceramic ones are pretty accurate
  10. maybe we should organize a group fund so that we could buy a case off vrf or chronoshop or wherever. with their money going towards a finished super case once all costs are squared. incentive to buy in early
  11. oh i agree, especially for the asking price. the latest version of the cartel case is actually pretty good and inexpensive. there are a few things i would like to see fixed though. i think the reason the chinese cases havnt refined the cgs is because they dont finish them by hand. they press and CNC, to make the CGs better is probably another layer of labour and attention added to each case. there is probably a reason that the factory cant make more refined CGs, like its beyond the spec of their machines or extra wear on parts to cut and those angles with more refinement. i will be traveling to china early 2017, maybe i can get some answers
  12. the vietnam cases i dont believe are CNC'd. blank are pressed out and the lugholes and CGs are drilled via press and probably shaped with a wheel. tube holes and threads are also cut by hand using a tap. hand polished and brushed. explains the variation and turn around time
  13. even if it were gen it's pretty toast
  14. very nice watch! date font a little too bold, no?
  15. by factory you mean small workshop. im pretty sure he doesnt run or own it either. they make everything to order finishing it all by hand
  16. that tempus is pretty damn sweet. thats the kind of stuff rolex should also be making instead of just having tudor carry the entire heritage line. might also return vintage prices back to earth
  17. those are really the only two advantages to using the SA3135
  18. well now, where can i get a dowling? those are gorgeous
  19. truly a work of functional art
  20. not to any accuracy. i can understand wanting the full package and experience of a complete set.
  21. thats the kind of rep that keeps the boys at TRF up at night
  22. could be a different case entirely. if you go to the watch floor in MBK you can find all sorts of vintage rolex fakes with average accuracy. dont pay the big bucks for an mbk case unless you know it's the same as before. the fact that it doesnt say polex may mean not. the cartel sub cases are also a very decent buy these days after they fixed the whole stubby CGs issue
