  1. is it really that hard to drill proper lug holes and make good crown guards?
  2. hell thats NOT bad at all! its good to take an occasional step back from Rollies and enjoy a good looking Omega, they make great stuff too!
  3. man o man, never get tired of looking at it, always captivating with such awe
  4. wow this looks great! initial glance i thought it to be gen.
  5. I recently bought a NOS 702 crown, mint condition, screwed it down and then off only to find there was black goop where the gasket used to be. it looked perfect before i put it on too. The gasket was so old and untouched that it was liquefied but held its shape UNTIL disturbed. hah. cant complain though it was a great find.
  6. looks GEN, but CHRIST! i dunno if that'll buff out.
  7. not bad. not bad at all JMB does some awesome metal work sure thats a gen crown? I know the pearl is from Yuki , but, is that the stock insert?
  8. I always remove in the winding position, one of the gurus here told me that. mind you i still dislodge the castle wheel quite regularly when reinserting it. i think the key to doing it properly is to rotate the stem so the square part is not diamond orientated when removing and reinserting in the same orientation as to not push the wheel out of alignment.
  9. every clone i've ever bought sits in pieces in my parts box ..didnt mean to make a poem out of it...but hey. what im trying to say is, I would never buy a clone again, ETA or nothing. i've learned my lessons theyre definitely NOT made the same way, either keep bad time or stupid things fail on them. which is why i have 4 clone movements sitting here in pieces , re-purposed to my educational department. meanwhile all my gen ETAs tick on. the only clone company i may trust enough to give a try in the future is Sellita , since they seem good enough for ORIS, TISSOT, and FORTIS , TAG
  10. a gen crown is a MUST, the width is better, the back of the crown has a better bevel, and the coronet and thumb ridges are better defined. if you want to go original get the twinlock crown (no dots 702) BUT you ahve to get a twinlock tube and both parts cost more $$ a 703 crown you can get for about $75 shipped, tube you can get a generic one from clarks forget the 316F, the vintage pieces are 316L anyways slow beat vs high beat...well that is a matter of accuracy. event the slow beats are too fast. dont worry about the mbk engravings, never seen, unless you wear it on leather...and if you do that then you have bigger problems then incorrect engravings. an mbk red dial is pretty inaccurate, id skip what is your overall budget?
  11. HOLY DIRT-BUNNIES in some of those pics! what a beauty love that dial and hands
  12. only thing the MBK does better out of the box is the retaining ring, dial and the caseback, which is horrendous on the PT
  13. yeah the iodine beads on the surface...UNTIL baked then it really sets in nicely and smoothly, no lumpy sections of color, slight variations in tone throughout here's the test hand i did today despite the orange color it's actually much more pale, its very hard to capture exacting color tones with scanners. the hands and dial actually match perfectly, and the dial looks 4X better than it does in the pic. here's a GEN example i was trying to mimic for the hands, if you bake them with iodine on them it will fade it all out completely and diluting it with water makes it too pale as well. just used straight iodine on this one and it's NOT as orange as it looks at all. became a bit innovative and simulated some rust on the hands like in the gen pic with some fallen burnt toaster crumbs i found in the bottom of the toaster oven...applied with a moist q tip to the hands... everything looks great in person. i'll try to get some better pics of them together later
  14. voila! AFTER the lower markers in the shadow are more representative of exactly what it looks like...the camera tends to over expose. im happy with the results and the fact that each marker aging was made by hand makes no two markers look exactly the same and thus not machine printed and that much extra fake. process. paint some iodine on the markers with a small precise point paintbrush. the iodine will sit on the top with a bit of surface tension, make sure to get it as evenly covered as possible. i originally tried sanding the markers a bit so that the iodine will absorb into it but it didnt seem to effect these markers. going outside of the markers will stain the dial. the markers should look wet and too orange. bake it! it takes the color down to a peach tinge and helps even out the application. i poked some holes in a piece of folded over tin foil for the dial feet and rested the dial on that, being sure to make the tin foil long enough to pull out of the oven. also cut a strip of tin foil to size and placed it over the dial print "rolex" crown and dial "submariner" as to mask it from browning, fading, or burning. set the toaster oven to medium and placed directly under the element... first time it finished the timer it wasnt done to my satisfaction... second time on medium was the charm, be sure to monitor the marker so they dont blacken and burn. let it cool for a minute, then its off to get a finishing layer of krylon for the matte and textured looked. sprayed and let it dry for about 12hours... the result is what you see in the pics.. peach colored markers that have some, but NOT TOO MUCH inconsistency with the shade of color throughout just gotta do the hands without over saturating them.
  15. looks nice but you didnt change that damn crystal? cant AR plastic im assuming
  16. lotta reps in movies and tv shows.
  17. what's wrong with aluminum foil?
  18. oh, hah. well in person it's very apparent, the scanner doesnt have the dynamic range to capture the minute color difference. take my word for it tho, the iodine is the way to go for a truer look, it deepens the color to a peach look (it adds brown) the baking just makes the white indices look like a dirty almond white
  19. too bad admin wont return my pms to carry MBK parts on this board, no good reason for that. just need them to give me a fair chance and tell me what is required to be a "trusted dealer". replace "trusted" with "paying", everyone wins. if you guys want parts maybe you could let the moderators know that i have them and you want them to let me sell them here.
  20. understand its a privilage, and as stated i've stop taking requests by members for watches until admin rectifies this. just clarifying my business to narikaa for some reason. no worries
  21. "And why I would know anything about every 'johhny-come-latley' on the forums is beyond me." then why are you making this your personal business? if you plan on engaging on slandering someone or making a gesture perhaps you better understand them before you make an assumption...you know what they say about people who ASSume i came here as a member, realized people here wanted some watches, i had a limited opportunity to do this as my friend is vacationing in thailand UNTIL august. i have no intent on being a dealer, never have, and never will be again after August. I started to offer a few watches, then a moderator told me that admin had to OK dealers, i said fine, contacted admin, and here we are. im playing by the rules once i was privy to them, im not trying to "get away with anything" what more would you like me to do? and now you know a bit more about this "johnny come lately" what ever that is. now tell me how im wrong in a very condescending way
  22. thanks for the reply no antipathy is needed with this passive agression this is a pending matter before admin, just waiting for them to reply and thats all there is to it but with all due respect unless you're a moderator this really does not concern you. until this is sorted out i will sell what I have from my collection like every other paying VIP member on this board in the "watches" section, i've refused order requests from member out of respect for this board until admin sorts me out (whenever that is) but showing towards a prospective "dealer" and a respected member whom you know nothing about is a bit disrespectful and reflects badly on your character
  23. define "dealer" probably because i dont maintain a consistent inventory of goods, like a dealer would. also wont have anything to offer anybody past August, my Thai vacations over then. dont worry your livelihood is safe, there's enough pie for everyone. so dont me also saved you the trouble of contacting Admin regarding this, and there's NO *FAIR* reason why they wouldnt green light my vacation souvenirs, im an outstanding member and several members would vouche for that, but if i get banned as quickly as they reply to pm's im sure im fine. thanks for your undivided concern however
  24. GABUS it was as white as could be before. they are now yellowish/brown more of a peach... i baked in my toaster ovens presetting of medium... it dings when done... i assume it was about 4mins...not sure the temp tho.
