  1. a green gasket huh. never seen that before, and no one mentions it. clones are in NO WAY "just as good". rough finishes, slightly ill fitting components, different material used throughout. ive taken enough a part to know by now, some werent worth fixing and sit in my parts box, while ALL my genuine eta's tick on. dont settle for clones, branded or otherwise. selitta is the only NON eta 2836 manufacturer i would consider, but their prices are on par with eta anyways.
  2. most gen owners on those forums have a "holier than thou" attitude.
  3. I agree with Alli' 16800 thats my true love. LOVE the franken -whats in it?
  4. in the lug engraving of "registered design" etc all the horizontal lines in E should line up where as the middle horizontal stroke falls short of the length of the baseline and the topline compare "REGISTERED DESIGN" printed here with the engraving between the lugs on a fake vintage case
  5. theyre both nice models, but how many people here have actually seen a 1680 in person vs a 16610?, and there in lies its appeal.. Rolex has now become jewelery, the 1680s pure ugliness of a giant plastic crystal spanning 2 stories +a cyclops is so very unqiue and appealing. I love them both, but the pure outrageous-ness of the crystal and date mag makes it somehow feel special, like your trusty old black and decker powertool or that 15 year old toyota, call it character i guess.
  6. classic watch parts. but yeah all these "top shelf" sellers are over priced.
  7. i agree on the matte, nothing says vintage like a matte dial. i should of clarified my debate is a gen gloss 5513 dial for $300 or less OR a matte rep dial from say Yuki or NDT/NP about $200 the rest of my watch is a franken cept for the case/movement and bracelet.
  8. the 40th version has two improvements made on the seagull moon rep. the rehaut is finally correctly flat black, and the clasp stamping says "professional" still havnt frozen that 12hour totalizer tho.
  9. good quality, still no substitute for an SLR, studio setting or not.
  10. I saw that one on VRF this morning too! my debate now is, gloss 5513 dial or matte very different looks
  11. hey DB i was wondering about these pearls just the other day. looks perfect on the dweller btw nice dial do you have the link on OF site for these pearls? hopefully shipping north isnt a giant expense
  12. this looks good. i was looking at folded link bracelets for my vintage sub the other day
  13. are those tudor gen blue isnerts just impossible to source or what
  14. i have a gen insert from the late 80s for a 5513 and can also source a gen late 80s 5513 dial but currently have a 702 crown and tube... not sure if its consistent with the era im building...the extreme beveling on the crown makes it look true vintage but the rest of the watch is more modern... maybe ill do a straight up trade with someone for a vintage fat coronet 703 crown and tube
  15. not so much chemicals as abrasive compounds. clay, diamond paste, 12000grit, etc
  16. one of the many minutia reasons i dislike clones, their tolerances are crap
  17. would any one happen to know the last production year or last year the 702 crown was featured on any 5513 sub before being replaced with the 703? im trying to make a production accurate sub
  18. hell i have a hard time keeping 3 wound simultaneously
  19. castle gear is dislodged. when you see how simple a part it is and slightly a skew it is you'll be even more furious
  20. if that fails since ive never found the capecod to buff anything try some green polishing compound to buff it out on the bench grinder, thatll get 'er
  21. nice watch, the other guys heart probably broke like that other 10year old kid at christmas who didnt get that GI Joe. have you owned the rep? thoughts on the difference... this one's for you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HrGmhg4Dgpg
  22. NICE ONE Ronin, my uncle owns a silver one and manufacturers some replacement part for other owners of this car thats apparently hard to come by.
  23. GENIUS! love your red, is that a gen dial?
  24. old thread. should mention the only thing ive ever bought from our sugarland seller with satisfaction was 2mm pinbars. everything else was ill-fitting junk and i either sucked it up or tried to return it. even their modern sub inserts arent that great
