  1. From what I've read, removing the bezels of recently built Pam Subs is a "one way trip".....NO RETURN!!! I know that I wouldn't try it!! And...if you decide to part that watch out, I could sure use that "S" off the bezel.... :pimp:
  2. So are the dealers......but neither of you will ever find out!!! ;)
  3. It mystifies me that this got to 3 pages..... Aren't we lucky to have gained a new watch guru who apparently thinks collecting Tag replicas is a worthwhile endeavor.... He MUST be an expert!!! :pimp:
  4. Probably a fake something from the "prop room"......If it was a "product placement" you'd be able to see it a lot more clearly!!
  5. Never!!!... And the only time I ever saw anyone else wearing a Pam was a doctor at the hospital wearing what looked like an 024 Sub....When I asked him what model it was he replied: "A 44mm I think" We tend to take all this too seriously I suspect !!
  6. Loud compared to what..??? Virtually ALL automatic watches have rotors than can be readily heard when turning....That's how the watch gets wound.. Unless the noise is really loud, and "scraping like" it's usually best to just get used to it... There should be a "sticky" about this issue, since it seems to arise every few weeks over the past 5 years or so....
  7. Negotiate, Negotiate, Negotiate.....Wait until your ship is almost ready to leave port, make your final offer, and start towards the door......If it can be done, that's when it'll happen!!
  8. Why would you be willing to part with the price of 4 or 5 nice reps for a piece of metal that you can get 99.9% accurately reproduced for @ $50...????
  9. Back in the 80's, when the silver prices went crazy, I was working for the firm that did the engraving on all the Zippo lighters. They had been selling sterling lighters for quite a while, and we had been working on them for years. One day, while rummaging around in the basement of our building looking for whatever, I stumbled upon three 55gal. drums with sealed tops, and the words "Zippo Scrap" written on them....I opened them, and discovered that they were chock full of STERLING SILVER Zippo lighter cases that were mis engraved, and considered unsellable.(the base metal ones were routinely scrapped) Since Zippo was one of our oldest and best customers, I immediately called the folks in Bradford Pa.and told them of my discovery. the NEXT MORNING, a Brinks armored car arrived at our Attleboro Ma. plant to recover the treasure trove...... And...I never even got a 'Thank You' from those scumbag Zippoheads!!
  10. Back in the days of the "Twist-O-Flex" style expansion bracelets, it was a fairly common occurrence among my shipmates to have their watches snatched off their wrists by a pair of locals on a scooter going by on the streets of Hong Kong ..... We were warned to not wear watches so equipped on liberty call!!
  11. 024 from Toro, on Suppaparts mesh:
  12. Even if you go full out for those "legendary" 1:1 models, they never REALLY are!!....Eventually you'll find something that isn't exactly correct... I have always been quite satisfied with the 21j models in most instances...And Toro has a very decent selection in that range...I have his 024 and am quite satisfied with it...
  13. "A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing" is the primary factor here...... And unfortunately, the folks taking those pics often suffer from the syndrome.... I bought dozens of watches before the advent of QC pics, and IMNSFHO, they have become an unnecessary PITA!!! If the watch looks and runs decent....Wear it.... :pimp:
  14. My Toro 24 on Suppaparts mesh... Cheap as dirt, but very solid!!
  15. Toro is now offering the "ass" for sale at a very decent price!!
  16. Nice looking watch, skillfully executed, but, the whole "bronze" thing still just looks like an old dirty gold watch to me...And I've seen more than enough of THOSE over the years...!
  17. for the first 20 years that I had reps, only Rolex was commonly available....WTF WANTED a fake "anything else"..?????
  18. I've been around reps and gen watches for a long time now, and I've seen a lot of craziness over the years, but this is the first time I've EVER seen a guy who actually gives a $hit enough about how his crown guard screw heads look to set up tools to change them..!!! GET HELP !!!!!!! :bangin:
  19. Just one more reason to NOT buy those "alleged" Swiss ETA watches!!!....Buy the 21j model...They run just fine, and if you ever need anything fixed, you just replace the whole movement for @ $25.!! Plus...If you went the 21j route you'd have 4 or 5 watches to play with!!....And they're REALLY only toys!!!! :pimp:
  20. You are correct.....And BTW there is a RWG-1 "hideout" area over there too...
  21. I can recall having done business with him in the far distant past, and having no problems...FWIW....
  22. I have been around the various rep fora for a long time now, and have owned dozens of reps, but even with the knowledge I have garnered during this time, I could not swear that any watch was genuine or not without doing a good deal of on line research on that particular model... to illustrate the level of knowledge most gen owners have, I once saw a doctor at the hospital, sporting a very nice 024 Pam sub, When I asked him how he liked his 024, he corrected me saying..."no...This is a 44mm model...." I can honestly say that since I stopped collecting Rolex models @ 3 years ago, I would have no Idea whether a recent model Sub or SD was real or not...What chance does "Joe Lunchbucket" have...???? :inverted:
  23. Why would you want to mess with a very nice replica like this...??? It's certainly not something you'd wear all that frequently...I haven't worn mine more than maybe 4 or 5 times in the past 5 years....I only use it as a dress watch....
  24. Just keep it for 20-30 years.....You won't hear it ticking then!! B)
