I have had available a set of dies to open the case backs on Breitling models. The dies available are noted as 36, 38 and 40. Now one would logically expect they fitted 36mm, 38mm, and 40mm across case backs. This however doesn't appear to be the case! The one I have, marked "36" actually measures 40mm+ across the flats. So my question is this. What measurement across the flats do any of you have for a specific model...and what size do you understand that model to be? I am already told that a 36 is 37 across the flats, but am now also told that a die marked 36 which was shipped to a client last week, is measuring 40mm across. So I am a little bewildered. However I am sure there is enough expertise around this place to get some real answers! Can anyone tell me of the measurement of a specific model Breitling, and what they know that model to be referenced as (ie is a Navitimer known as a "40", or a Super Ocean a "38"...and what is the case back measurement for that model?) Hoping I can get to the bottom of this one with the degree of expertise around this place. Thanks guys. Offshore

No! I think you need to concentrate on getting the bezel and insert off, then worry about getting the insert out. You may have to finally crucify the insert, to sort out all the issues. But your 1st one is to get the bezel free from the case. Whether that takes just a solvent, or a solvent accompanied by some form of wedges, or even a full blown bezel remover being put into play, only you can judge. Once you have the bezel and insert clear, you can then play around and see if heat or soaking in solvent ( not both at the same time BTW) may free up the insert. Just put it all down to experience. Lacquer thinner = Acetone. Acetone may have some adverse effects on the printed surface of your bezel, so keep it away if possible. Try "dabbing" with a cotton bud soaked in acetone. Eventually you may have to try to wedge the bezel off. What watch /insert are we talking BTW? O/S

GS Hypo Cement. Get the marker sitting in its guide holes, but still raised up, and put one veeeery small dot under it. O/S

I have sold a few of these new. (Picked up some heavily discounted stock from a liquidated watch shop) I then found the wholesalers are offering a massive markup from wholesale to RR, so you can expect the bottom to drop out of any perceived value when a few retailers are caught with stock on the shelf, as they will be discounted hugely. Reasonable quality, and attractive enough appearance (to some) but when margins like this are offered I do get a bit leery. Don't need too much tied up in these when push comes to shove. O/S

If you have a pulse tester or can access one, this will tell you if its the battery or the circuit at issue, and can be checked without having to remove the back. O/S

Of course you can claim a new watch! Now whether CC give you anything is a completely different matter. Then again, you could just sue them............... O/S

I'm always lurking Daniel! Even in an hotel room in sunny downtown Guangzhou! A bloody hot, humid & sunny Guangzhou I might add. I will be back on deck in 7 days, and will bring along some new goodies for show and tell! Just register on the site, (www.watchbitz.com.au)mention you are from RWG, and I'll get your discount set up. Sometimes that can take up to 1 day. Offshore

I had more success in installs than removals actually, but it really depended on the specific stem tube setup. Lets see what turns up in the next week or so. The sellers have been put into search mode. O/S

Could be the case. Ask the seller what day it was dispatched. O/S

We sell, or used to sell that tool. http://watchbitz.com...d&productId=137 It shows as "Out of stock" although I do have stocks! I stopped selling it as everyone who tried to use it had issues, and I ended up refunding too many times! I am currently in GZ and this is one of my missions, although to date no one has shown me anything else!! If you want one of the ebay ones, I can help you at a fair bit less than that price, but I have little confidence it will work. FWIW, I have used one a couple of times, and it has taken some persistence, and heating etc to get it to work, but I did manage. I can understand the frustration however, and this is why we deleted it from the inventory. Offshore

Just because you have a tracking # doesn't necessarily mean its been dispatched. Ask for the day it was SHIPPED, not when a form with a number was filled in..that could still be laying on someones desk, or in their OUT box! O/S

Best of luck! Trying to deal with Bob Frei is worse than doing a deal with the devil. At least you know when he finishes that you are an inferior being. DO NOT ask him to find any part number for you...ever...even if you know model/serial/year/ colour of underpants etc etc I think a few others here know what I am saying. Offshore -

Yes, Short answer, what you receive will not be serviced. The cost of parts to "refurbish" does not equal the cost of the item. You can do this (much) cheaper yourself with the right skills. (from a watchsmith doing 10+ Seiko refurbs /week.) Here is a classic equation. Old watch =$45.00 Dial/hands/glass/seals/ bezel insert. +$100. ( or more..depends on your contacts) Service, remod, pressure test $175.00. Total = $340.00 Actual value at resale = (Maybe) $175.00! Thats all in U$. Do your own homework from that! No, it isn't viable...been there - done that. O/S

Stephane. In November last year my doctor told me I had to have a major operation, and I MUST stop smoking. When I asked for options he said...'Have the operation in 2 days time, or be dead by Christmas." Not much of an option. ( And believe me..it gets your attention...big time) I had my last smoke the night I went to hospital, I was put on a drug (Champix) to withdraw, and I haven't smoked since. I still crave a cigarette EVERY day...however I tell myself " I no longer smoke" Its hard...very hard...I think I'm lucky - as the penalty of death constantly over my shoulder is an extremely strong reason not to fall off the wagon! After I stopped, I did read his book. It probably assisted. Somewhat. However Madame Guillotine...poised over my throat on a daily basis...is a far better influence than all the psyche books ever printed. I have a close friend, who knows he should stop, but can't....because he doesn't REALLY want to! I had tried previously, and failed. I have succeeded this time....after almost 50 years of smoking. And the bonus! I have already saved over $4000.00. JUST DO IT. O/S I DON"T SMOKE ANYMORE.

I'm with freddy on this one. However the critical words are "solid proof", and thus far we haven't seen anything either solid and/or confirmed. If and when that is available, I'm sure appropriate action will be taken. Offshore

Carl, I think you will find that a lot of us are around quite a bit...maybe we just don't make as much noise as KB There wouldn't be too many hours in any given day that we didn't have at least one mod on deck! Offshore
