Patek Philippe Nautilus vs. AP Royal Oak Jumbo
jeff g replied to mezzanine's topic in Other Brands Area
Looks to me like you should avoid MBW/MBK watches. Your complaint concerning craftsmanship of these pieces is the only one I can find from any of the members of the forum. To say that the current PP Nautilus is not 'meant' to be a MBW makes no sense. It IS a MBW. I would say that the watch you received (PPN) was not a MBW, considering the QC issues that you mention. In the case of the AP RO, the fact that it is not 100% accurate to the gen is also immaterial. The MBW AP is still one of the best, if not THE best, watch currently available. -
Patek Philippe Nautilus vs. AP Royal Oak Jumbo
jeff g replied to mezzanine's topic in Other Brands Area
Both of these watches IMO are as good as it gets. MBWMBK quality in reps is unequalled. Both of these watches are beautiful timepieces. For me the kicker is that I prefer automatic watches with seconds hands. Gerald Genta designs are quite simply the top shelf. He was also responsible for the IWC Ingy design. That watch and the AP RO as well as the orignial Nautilus (both designed in the 70's) are still considered 'state of the art'. Either of these two MBW's are as nice a watch as one could own. As I have mentioned in other threads, ref: the Nautilus, since receiving this watch, I have not taken it off. For me it is quite simply the MOST BEAUTIFUL WATCH I own. I can understand however, why some would say the same about the AP RO. Classic design. Gerald Genta is still the foremost designer of fine timepieces. It was recently announced that he will now design for Hubolt. I can't wait to see what will replace the Big Bang, a watch that currently is at the top of its game. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. For me this is the one. -
This is a rep watch. Black dial. Close enough for me. Just read today that Gerald Genta who designed this watch as well as the AP RO and IWC Ingy has signed a contract with Hubolt to begin designing one of a kind pieces with his signature. Now that will bring on some major 'banging' I'm sure.

In my research of the history of the Nautilus what I have been able to determine is that the 'Nautica' and the 'Nautilus' with the Roman Numeral Dial face are the only PP that had the connected 'line' around the dial. For the most part the original 3700 introduced in the 70's, and then the 3800 introduced in the late 80's early 90's, regardless whether they were the 36mm or the 'Jumbo' at 42mm those models all had unconnected 'dot's', not the connected line around the dial. The newer 5711 model introduced in 2006/07 is in fact 43mm not 42mm like the original jumbos. Additionally, the addition of the seconds hand on the 5711, as well as the sapphire back is different than the 3700 or the 3800 jumbos which had the solid back. There are other differences in the dial as well in the rep. The copy on the dial is in a different posisition, and the font on the date wheel is inaccurate in comparison to the gen in all models. Nevertheless, the rep currently available in the MBW, either with the connected line, or with the independent dot pattern is without doubt one of the best rep watches currently available on this or any other forum. For the money it cannot be beat, IMO.

Review of Tag Heuer Aquaracer Day-Date Chronograph 7750
jeff g replied to By-Tor's topic in By-Tor's Watch Reviews
Great review as usual. Of course it makes me want to order this guy immediately. Photos sell this baby, and your good review seals the deal. Thanks!! -
There are actually quite a bit of differences in the rep compared to any of the Nautilus models...past or present. But I will definetly agree that the MBW Nautilus is a very well made and beautiful watch...rep or gen. Since receiving mine I have stopped changing watches on a daily basis. It is simply the most beautiful watch I own. I have to agree with another member here now when he says, 'Quality...not Quantity'.

Polishing TT with Cape Cod or anything for that matter
jeff g replied to 330cic's topic in General Discussion
I agree...do not use on TT or brushed surfaces at all. Meant only for polished SS bracelets and cases. Not even good to get on crystals...scrattches. I DO recommend it for softening up stiff bracelets as well. Makes them 'buttery'. -
Do not hang up your tools. The guy is obviously a jerk off. Modding is a service that you perform to help other members here. As such we all feel grateful for your time and expertise. Taking in less work may in fact be the answer. Less stress. This community would feel your loss. We also feel your pain.

Man oh Man... are there some beautiful watches (and Photos) in this thread. Seems as though we are all in watch heaven these days. We are all very fortunate people. I cannot get my MBW Nautilus off my wrist these last few weeks. What a nice timepiece.

OK then...it is official. Every single person who got the 3717 loves this watch. And...it looks good on either leather straps or SS bracelets. What more could one ask of a beautiful timepiece like this. Wear it well.

Not knowing who the dealer is is problematic. Initially when the 3717 came available it was offered by EL. The price intially for the model in the first run of 100 was high, but the quality was high as well. After the cartel began to offer the 3717, the price went down to that of most 7750's on the board...but..the quality went down as well. The first time the 'Saint' was offered as far as I know it was thru EL. If he was your dealer and the watch was a 400.00 product, and it looks like [censored], I'd have to agree that there is a HUGE problem. If on the other hand it was sourced from another collector, and it is crap...what's next?

6.5'' Wow, I am only 6.75'', I feel really lucky to be able to wear some of these larger watches. You are an inspiration. Your wrist shots are much nicer than mine. You have great taste in watches, thats for sure. Wear them well. By the way... get one of THESE!

This thread and the photos in it, inspired me to purchase this watch. Without doubt it is certainly the finest rep I have ever worn. Fit and finish is extraordinary. The thinness of the watch and size @42mm make it really comfortable on the wrist. I especially like the dial I was able to source with the unconnected dot pattern between the hour markers. Although I agree that the blue/green dial is an awesome coloring on this piece, I am very happy with the black, and am happy I chose it. From everything I have read this model seems to be closer to the original 3700 Nautilus design, although the current model 5711 has the same dial and a seconds hand with the sapphire crystal back. The rep seems to be a bit of both models. Although my pics aren't in the class of Euno or Ubi, here are a few to check out. Thanks to my fellow members for the inspiration to purchase this beautiful watch.
