  1. Neither of the photos show an early service dial, so I don't think that's it. I do think that you and dbane are generally right about gilt/high, matte/low. One confounding factor is the "FFHS" (or "Fat Font High Swiss", as someone on VRF called it), which has similar graphics to the gilt in the OP, except printed on a matte surface. However, I'm not sure if it was around in 1966. I'm keenly aware of this variant, as it's the dial on my 1969 example!
  2. alterego: Keep that dial. Although Yuki's 1016 dials have generally improved a lot over the past 1-2 years, there are still bad ones that show up sometimes. This Space-Dweller looks good to me.
  3. Aaarggh!!! That looks fantastic, but dial in the focus on your camera!
  4. Let me just give a very big "Thank you!" to the kind Canuck who helped me out. All it takes is one person, and you were the one who stepped up. THANK YOU!!!
  5. I bid 20K on the 6623. No, not the Cellini! I meant that one 6263! Phew, that was close... Wait, what do you mean, "It's a Thunderbird"?!
  6. As I said, I like a birth watch that's "of the era", and -although IWC and Porsche were collaborating on titanium as early as the 1980s- Ti in consumer goods was really taking off in the early 90s. For example, one of my dream bikes at that time was a titanium Merlin, as ridden by Greg LeMond. of course, the most important thing is getting a birth watch that you actually want to wear! The 14060 is a nice, balanced design. I like the relative lack of text on the dial's lower half, as you expect to read a paragraph every time you see a sports Rolex these days.
  7. Nothing in particular at the moment. I usually urge people to resist Submariners and Speedmasters for their birth-watch pics because that's the safe, easy, and boring choice. My philosophy is to get a watch that's less "timeless" and more linked -either design-wise or by cultural association- to the year it was made in. That's a bit difficult for 1991! Nevertheless, let me suggest either a Pre-Bond Seamaster or something in titanium by IWC/Porsche Design.
  8. Are you looking only at watches within the Rolex family?
  9. Love how these look. They remind me of those old SGI workstations, with "granite" finish parts. Of course, your speakers are probably a whole lot heavier than those!
  10. I want to pay $30 to one of our Chinese friends, but he only takes payment through Skrill. Unfortunately, for reasons peculiar to my credit card's transaction reporting, I'm unable to verify and link it to my Skrill account. Is anyone out there on Skrill and willing to make this payment on my behalf? You will be out $30 for as long as it takes for me to repay you by more conventional means (i.e. PP). For the use of your funds, we can negotiate a reasonable premium over LIBOR. Help out a beloved, longtime member of the RWG family!
  11. Wow, J... That's nicer than the nearly-obliterated engravings on my gen!
  12. Put me down for the 12 spot. I'd add myself to the list, but this damn iPad isn't playing nice!
  13. Very, very nicely done, and crisp photography, too! It's painful how some of the best aftermarket parts still come from DW after all these years.
  14. Excellent comparison, but also a bit depressing. I have a couple of Yuki's old 7206 bracelets and they are, indeed, much nicer than the one you got. Macros by the weekend, at the latest!
  15. I've been bouncing against the 500 message cap for a while now, so apologies to anyone who's tried to contact me and was stonewalled. Is there a way for me to off-load all of my old messages to, say, a .TXT file? I know this option exists for many other forums, but I can't seem to find it here on RWG.
  16. I'm not a fan of his at all, and his grammar/vocabulary could use a bit of work (e.g. "the materials and cosmetics"?), but I agree with many of the points he raises. Many recent releases from IWC (and as dbane notes, from other houses, too) are starting to resemble cheaper, showier, fashion watches.
  17. Fantastic! On a similar vein, I always wondered if you could make a Daytona or GMT bezel out of a Shrinky Dink... (Children of the 70s and 80s will understand that!)
  18. Maybe the buyer thought these 6542 inserts are like starfish, and hopes to grow nine new ones from these pieces!
  19. Very good! Now prepare to answer all the PMs asking how to contact DW...
  20. Not sure if you're being serious here, but whether a dealer is trusted or not should depend on the quality of his service rather than the accuracy of his products. Toro carries the good SM300 rep, as well as a bunch of shitty ones, but a quick browse through the listings make it obvious which is which. The onus should fall on the buyer to make sure he's ordering the right one.
  21. Congrats, dieselpower. I know you've been after a 1016 for a very long time!
  22. Stunning! Honestly, I'd never even noticed that lip before!
  23. Thanks! Yes, the NDTradingCorp.com website is still up. And with a few pretty nice new 1016 dials listed, too! (That "deep gilt" deserves a closer look.)
