  1. Hi guys, I just wanted to share with you a small preview of something to come in a few days. Enjoy. Edit: Thread is up.
  2. Hi, general consent seems to be that if you can't find a gen case (16523 comes to mind), Phong's your man.
  3. I honestly doubt that they are intercepting anything from within EU countries (maybe except having a dog sniff some letters and packages from the Netherlands). They have enough work on their hands already, why would they increase their workload substantially with something they aren't legally obliged to do? Maybe UK customs is stepping up their game, but I don't think the German authorities care for anything sent from there.
  4. Yup, looks good, congrats.
  5. You know that the new one is scheduled to be released this fall? Cal. 8500 full in-house movement, better bracelet but higher price. With discount you should be able to get one at about full retail of the current model. I don't think that the current ones will hold their value after the new one is released, so they should become cheaper. That's my opinion, others argue that due to the significant price increase second hand models of the current line-up will be in even more demand and thus will increase in price... Here's a bad picture of the new one. Edit: Here's a review of the new titanium version, internals are the same.
  6. I'm with you 100% on this one. This for example is just ridiculous. Who in his right mind does buy an insert for that amount of money? Just when I thought prices wouldn't approach idiotic levels again (judging by the full spec Milsub a guy is trying to sell on VRF for quite some time) this joker comes around. There's also an early 6265 with wrong subdial hands and a movement which obviously doesn't reset to zero probably for sale at $28,500. Bracelets and other parts have skyrocketed and the list goes on and on... Honestly I don't know if I'll ever be able or willing to afford a gen mid 70's 5513 as I was planning to at these prices.
  7. Amazing watch, beautiful dial! I honestly thought it was gen until you posted this write-up. Stunner!
  8. Haha, yeah something like that... If everything goes well, it'll be finished in about two weeks...
  9. There are plenty of non-fake gen dials around. Depending on the dial versions your are looking at a minimum of $1500 for an acceptable one, a lot more for the rarer ones. You will need to be careful and know the various different versions though, Mazzariol's book "Rolex Daytona a Legend is Born" is a good starting point. Generally speaking the aftermarket dials are easily identifiable by their printing. Especially the minute markers and the subdial fonts aren't as crisp and fine as on gen dials. From hands distance this isn't noticeable really, but once you are nearer then it becomes pretty obvious. The difference a gen dial makes is incredible, though in my opinion it isn't worth it if you don't invest in a lot of other gen parts.
  10. Beautiful work as always, Ubi, congrats Justasgood! Man, I love the black dialed one! Think I will have to research them a bit...
  11. Wow, seems like these guys are angry... and not too experienced
  12. Well, you started this thread to ask about suggestions for good aftermarket submariner cases. On the first page you explain how you have decided to buy from NDT or Yuki with the only genuine part in your watches being the movement. No aftermarket part looks "exactly like original" and you know that. While some cases might be fine, all dials, bezels, crowns etc. are flawed in one way or the other, so you are obviously advertising your watches under false pretences to your customers. In numerous of your posts you are suggesting selling frankens on ebay to unsuspecting buyers is common practice among members here, while in fact it is absolutely unacceptable and nothing any sane member would tolerate. All these facts scream rip-off to me and I don't feel like there's anything about your project which has anything to do with the spirit of this forum and especially that of the many franken builders on here.
  13. I like what you did with your 1675s, but selling watches with Yuki cases to "customers" who probably do not know what they are getting is highly objectionable to put it lightly, sorry. A gen movement and gen crown do not make an everything else aftermarket watch something only remotely comparable to a 5000€ vintage gen imho. Also I don't share your opinion that most of vintage submariners available are a mix of gen and rep parts. Even if this was the case, I don't think that this would justify ripping off people with (although gen-powered) virtually complete aftermarket watches for 3000€. I do not think that "projects" like yours should be discussed here in any way. Ever.
  14. I think it's the rosegold 116505 version. There's no SS or WG version of this dial in the 2008/09, 2009/10 nor 2010/11 catalogue. I think it's the lighting. When you look at the bezel you can clearly see it's a gold version (or supposed to be one) because of the markings. Unfortunately there is no WG dial like the one you posted.
  15. Amazing collection, I love your new Day-Date!
  16. Yes I know, I love the racing dial with silver hands. Here's a WG one with the complete standard hand set.
  17. Very nice, I like the silver hands better, a bit more understated that way.
  18. Beautiful, I especially love the shot on to of this page, great pic, amazing watch!
  19. If you are looking for very good quality affordable gen timepieces you might want to take a look at the Grand Seikos' little brothers the Seiko Spirit range. These are amazing value for money and considered best bang for the buck by many on the gen forums. They are a more than your $300 limit, but can be found at very reasonable prices on the second hand market. Here's their line-up. It's the models starting with SARBxx at the bottom. The page is in Japanese, but you get the idea. Generally every Seiko with 6R15 movement is worth a look.
  20. I love this watch! Happy birthday!
  21. +1 The grey dial version with strap (5711G). Very !
  22. Looking good, could you tell us where you got the case from?
  23. Wow, looks like mine is one of the last ones, lucked out this time at last!
