  1. Wow. I assume a search party is armed up there. That's pretty scary. I've always been happy that I am just too far south for brown bear. On the other hand, I had a tarantula on my property, which really should not be able to survive this far north, and saw scorpion spray at my local Home Depot. I really hope that was a logistics error of some sort.
  2. Hi Arthur. This might be the wrong forum for RM. Have you tried RG or RWI? The only advice I would offer is to pick the best rep, not the rep of your favorite RM model.
  3. I posted roughly the same WTB several months back although just for the US version and got nothing. Rep Geek is probably your best bet, since they were/are quite close with Puretime.
  4. This looks excellent. Love the lume on the dial/hands/pip and the profile looks great.
  5. Agreed. We're all on the "spectrum" as they say in psychology! Assuming these are all off the shelf reps, it shows how amazing the overall quality is these days.
  6. Whoops...I see we have a dedicated forum and the answer is yes. Carry on.
  7. Hi gang, Does one have to be VIP to post a WTB?
  8. My wife is pretty good looking if you want to put your double red at the other end. ?
  9. Beautiful! I'll ask the question everyone is wondering...How on earth did this watch come to be in Alaska? Fell out of a plane bound for Russia?
  10. This sounds like the kind of procedure where you either want to wear thick jeans or a hard cup
  11. Part of the problem is there just haven't been that many new reps to get excited about recently, especially at the current price points. For a long time, the most sought after reps, Rolex, largely sucked. So it took a lot of time and help and conversation to make a good one. Now most of that information is a search away here on the forum so there is not that much to talk about. The "new frontier" is $2,000 dials from the UK (that may be an underestimate) and $1,500 cases from Vietnam, which prices a lot of folks out of the market and the conversation. You will however still see great threads pop up around the vintage models. Another problem is gen watches. There's also not that much to get excited about in the gen world at a reasonable price point, unless you've been dying for a 37mm PAM. There are tons of high-end releases, but not too much that could be replicated convincingly. I would like to see this forum talk a bit more about the latest factory releases. We seem to be mostly into very high end modified stuff and the new release conversation has gone elsewhere.
  12. The price for the Newman was about what I expected. I actually watched this live streaming and it was fairly exciting. I was guessing 15M and it did pause there before going up to 17+. I honestly think it is as much of a one-off (or one-of-four-off) as some of the watches it surpassed, just in a different way. I am however suspicious of the prices of some of the other watches. Basically any old Daytona seems to be worth 100K and I was surprised to see the LeCoultre Deep Sea sell for 100K. Either the auction attracted a lot of folks with money to burn or interested parties are bidding up lots in these very highly publicized auctions.
  13. LOL...My facts couldn't have been more off in the original post! But it's a good video.
  14. Getting the lugs to go straight down at the ends like that is a huge improvement Rolo. Looks great. Surprised the Vietnam source has not fixed that themselves.
  15. Here's a big long video of a PAM 040 with a service replaced tritium dial...but is this legit? Looks just like mine with Rolli dial, Sead CG (IIRC), and was it Jacob or a similar name who made the great case backs?
  16. Well, I just got out my gen 1680 to beat on for a while since I want to keep the 1665 and 5514 I built nice . Not sure what that says about me, but the frankens mean more. The flip side is a little wear and tear usually helps the frankens look the part. They all have gen bracelets and clasps (which take most of the damage), movements, bezels, dials (5514 is "pre-Comex" so a standard 5513 dial), etc. so this makes the decision easier. Other than the mid-case, any damage is being done to a gen part. Over time, the reps I most enjoy have become copies of gens I like. I have some great PAM reps (real dials and hands, Rolli dials, etc.) but I guess I never really liked the gen design so I rarely wear them. The recent IWC Portos on the other hand get lots of wear. These are also great reps since I would be really disappointed to pay 8K for the Porto automatic having experienced "the watch" for a while.
  17. That's good news. Hopefully he will really try to reproduce it rather than throw the brand on one of his MKIIs. He can make a HUGE amount of money if done right.
  18. Unless you need the convenience there is no point. You will not damage your movement by letting the watch sit in a drawer. No need for all the wear and tear. On the other hand, especially if your watch is hard to set, it can be nice to have one around. Keep it cheap...all it needs to do is spin.
  19. The whole point of a 1680 is that GIANT date magnification. Just make sure you are getting high enough quality to produce that effect. I would go gen or follow Nanuq's advice.
  20. I have been reading up on how to create an attractive home for an owl, but I'm afraid the quail would all be gone the first night. We have a falcon who sizes us up hungrily from the deck railing through the window every now and then, but he's never around when I need him.
  21. 72 degrees here a mile high in the lower 48! On a mostly unrelated note, I have a woodpecker that has taken a shine to my house. Any chance the little bastard will freeze when it turns cold? The internet tells me I'm not allowed to shoot it.
  22. OK. Next question...What's an oil sink?
  23. Greubel Forsey. A gyrotourbillon JLC is what, 50K? And figure that already has an astronomical margin built in.
