    DW 6239

The thing with DW (& other aftermarket Rolex parts sellers) is that his products tend to vary a bit from batch to batch. So, the dial that you receive may vary in details from the dial someone else received the day before. I think your best bet is to ask DW if it is possible for him to check the dial he is sending you before shipment for whatever issues you are concerned with. Otherwise, see if you can return the dial if the subdials are not as expected. Just keep your requirements simple & remember that English is not DW's language (he uses translation software to communicate & complicated words/phrases do not translate well).
  2. He has not actually 'disappeared'. As I understand it, he buys a small lot of dials or whatever from an Asian distributor & then sells them on ebay. Once the lot is sold off, he 'vanishes' (until he buys the next lot).
  3. I agree with Flex. I would hold off until you find a suitable dial. You can always find a case to fit--aftermarket, salvaged from a rep or gen. I have been searching for an accurate gold Newman dial to replace the 7750 dial in my gold 6239. As hard as it is to find a good Newman dial, finding a gold 1 seems to be twice as hard. If/when I locate a dial, then I will begin sourcing the V72 movement for the conversion.
  4. All I can say is never underestimate the insanity that goes with vintage Rolex pricing. If it says Rolex, expect the unexpected.
  5. Ending the work week wearing 1 of my GMTs
  6. The spring is turned slightly until a tab reaches the cut-out section & then the spring pops......er, is carefully lifted out. (Be very careful as these things have a habit of becoming airborne without notice.) It takes a bit of practice. Also, there are various tools made to make spring removal a bit easier but I usually just use 5a tweezers & a pointy piece of pegwood or plastic probe (to hold the shock in place as the spring is rotated).
  7. Unless you have leather wrists, I would avoid the s-t-r-e-t-c-h rivet bracelets (gen or aftermarket). They are very uncomfortable.
  8. There were 3 versions of pushers for the 6263, the last version is the same that Rolex uses on current Cosmos.
  9. In general, I agree (DW's dials tend to vary a bit), but yours looks great. I think this is what you are referring to.
  10. Actually, sometimes you can (cure a dead movement). As I explained in my original powdered graphite thread, the watch used to test the process was DOA (prior to the treatment).
  11. You might try DW's forum.
  12. That looks like the same movement that powered my original POS 5514, which I picked up a dozen or so years ago. Although I replaced the movement 4 years ago with an ETA2846, I just wound the original & it is still working. It looks almost like a gen to me.
  13. Welcome. I do not live in Canada, but I do not think you will find quality rep watches in any store (they are considered contraband & so are illegal to sell in most countries). However, if you check the dealer section of our website, you should be able to locate whatever you are looking for.
  14. joerg - For some reason, my message is not getting through as intended. My 2 (1st gen) secs @ 6 Daytonas have never been treated & have been running, trouble-free since they were purchased 4.5+ years ago. The point here is that the 1st gen secs @ 6 A7750 movement seems to be hearty & fairly reliable. If you want a secs @ 6 Daytona, see my 'Perfect Daytona' posting. In the case of later/current versions of the secs @ 6 A7750 movements used in modern 1165xx Daytonas, when powdered (not liquid) graphite is applied to a properly serviced/running movement as described in my original posting, it should eliminate the friction problems inherent to the additional gearing required to relocate the running seconds. Powdered graphite is not a panacea for all of the potential problems that may exist within a used mechanical movement. In other words, treating an unserviced movement or 1 that may have other mechanical problems may result in less than satisfactory results. Not to say that if you have a dead movement, the powdered graphite treatment should not be attempted. I am only saying that there are many things that can cause a secs @ 6 A7750 to fail & these should always be considered.
  15. No, the watches I treated were all the current version movements (my own personal watches are 1st gens).
  16. In many cases, especially with common Rolex watch models, if you send a brief description (model number, dial color, etc) & a good, clear pic to a couple of our collectors, they should be able to source the rep for you.
  17. I was not aware of such a poll. Odd, that it was not posted here, since this is where the procedure itself was posted. Still, without knowing the background (whether the procedure I used was followed in those cases where it was 'unsuccessful'), I remain unconvinced that powdered graphite, applied as I did it, would fail in an otherwise properly serviced watch. But I appreciate the heads-up, MP.
  18. For branded dials, ebay. If you are planning on rolling your own (on a blank dial), check out .coms for ofrei, julesborel or cousinsuk.
  19. nieap - You should be more specific as to the watch model & type of work you need done. For starters, check the Boston telephone book for 'watch repair' or 'watch & clock repair'. Then, phone a few watchmakers & ask if they work on rep watches. Especially, in a slow economy, they may be eager to take in new work, even if they do not normally accept reps.
  20. Welcome to RWG, Chris.
  21. Very definitely. That said, I cannot vouch for others who may not have followed the procedure I used, but if any secs @6 Daytonas have failed after having been treated as described in my original tutorial, it is news to me. The 1st test watch, along with the 2 others I treated subsequently, have continued to run without incident.
  22. 4.5 & 5+ years old, A7750-powered (1st generation) & still meet COSC specs The key (you will need to research updated URLs as they have changed).
  23. Just after midnight & wearing my golden girl
  24. Not sure about that particular model, but check the recommended sellers sections. I would start with Perfect Clones, which has a good select of (mostly) top quality reps, great service & reasonable pricing.
