The sides of the dial fit around the edge of the 1030's plate. The inner diameter of the dial is slightly smaller than the outer diameter of the pillar, so once the dial is pressed down over the pillar, friction holds it in place. Dial orientation must be done by eye. On dials without a date window, simply align the 3 o'clock index marker with the center of the stem when you press the dial on (this can be done by hand, but wear finger cots or latex gloves so you do not mark the dial) & everything should be properly aligned. Once you have done it a couple of times, you may find that this type of dial is actually easier to fit than a dial with feet & screws.
