  1. Boom!! There it is, a Big Crown needs a gorgeous dome just like that. Beautiful. If it was me I might even cut that crystal sidewall down a mm or so.
  2. Nice! I was there once, walking past way out there beyond the dunes. Why? All these funny guys in pink shorts and matching watches were up at the hotels looking fabulous at me.
  3. Breathtaking!!! Who is the first victim, er candidate for his turn with this pass-around beauty?! I'm thinking Stu.....
  4. I think that's the exact watch I used for the How Tough Is A Rep Submariner test! [emoji23]
  5. The polar bear is longer but leaner. The Kodiak is more massive and not quiiiiite as tall.
  6. Yeah you give a Nanuq (polar bear) too many beers and you've got a mess on your hands! That's Big Mama, she's about 10' and maybe 1,100 lbs. Her kids are about 500 lbs each. See that first picture where she's at the bottom of the gravel bank? If she was hungry, she could be up that bank and tearing the door off your truck in maybe 3 seconds. They're incredibly fast and athletic.
  7. A few troublemakers in Utqiagvik
  8. Another bit of Panerai insider knowledge. When I started looking at these beauties people were talking about faux CPs and tall hands and clipping seconds and volcano crystals and sandwich cases. The learning curve is steep, but it's not long.
  9. Roger all that. My vintage gens have been serviced and now for the most part sit in the safe. There's no good reason to wear them out when I have pieces that look about the same and beat with ETA hearts. Perhaps it's time to hoard some "incredibly expensive" parts now? Like Freddy said today's prices will seem like bargains in 2-3 years.
  10. Perfect advice Freddy, as always.
  11. What a classic! But I'd still take your crusty old Navitimer over it.
  12. Wow that's a nice case. Wear it with pride!
  13. Some safes have fireproof capability, which means the lining has a moisture component. Mine is like that and I have to leave the door open periodically to keep it completely dry inside. Perhaps some moisture migrated in beneath your Cyclops? Try baking it in the sun. If that doesn't do it, we have tutorials here about removing the Cyclops with a razor blade and gluing it back down.
  14. I tried for several years to like the rep Jubilee on my gen 1675 and kept taking it off. Even after tweaking to make it feel silky it just "felt" odd. Something was off. Recently I was given a genuine Jubilee band by a very generous friend, and put it on the 1675, and all of a sudden it feels right. They look almost identical, but there's "something" about the gen that makes it work. Maybe it's the thickness of the center links? The ratio of their thickness to their width? It's not the fit nor finish, it's something subtle that my eye sees but not my conscious brain. Now it lives on that Jubilee, whereas before I couldn't have the rep on there more than a month.
  15. Call it the Alaskan Backwoods Delicate Adjustment Tweak: Squeeze the movement ring to make it slightly oblong in the axis where the stem penetrates the case.
  16. Mary is in our list of Repairs / Modders down a ways on the main page. She's able to source nearly anything.
  17. Is it a Rolex crown? If so, Freddy333 did a fine tutorial a few years ago about this exact procedure.
