Herein lies one of the big problems, the repairer's inability to say NO! They are also guilty of grossly underestimating the time it takes to repair/ service any particular watch. They figure "best case" scenarios, rather than "worse case", and in a blink of the eye, they are behind. I totally agree with you about the communication. From past experiences with modders/ repair people, communication is generally the first thing to go when they start having problems. Hopefully you will get this worked out to your satisfaction. Folks should read and take note of these discussions related to problems with watch repair/modders. If you see where someone is starting to have problems, cease communicating or is returning watches with shoddy work, even if you have had good results in the past, I would proceed with caution. Well guys, they seem to come and go. Most of the time it's because they don't have a business plan, it's a part time hobby to make a few extra "off the record" bucks. Before long, because they don't exercise any control over who sends watches in and how many, they have a room full of unopened boxes of broken watches. After a while, the wife starts raising hell that every free moment is spent in the workshop repairing watches, the kids are unhappy because you can't spend time with them. And they keep coming!!Now, what was a fun little hobby becomes a nightmare that's worse than any regular job. Couple this with watch owners that have unrealistic expectations about costs and results, watches that have "time bomb" movements, lack of parts, and more broken watches arriving every day! and it's pretty easy to see why one day the guy just comes unglued. And all of this could be prevented by sitting down and developing a plan, have a rigid, no exception scheduling policy, and do not take in more watches than you can handle. Make sure that your customers understand the rules, and be prepared to enforce them. If the watch repair person sets it up properly on the front end, a whole lot of the horror stories would be averted. I'm not taking up for the ones that seem to have the most problems, but I can certainly see where they go wrong, and why at some point they become unreliable. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I was amazed at the prices of gen Tudor Blue bezel inserts. I have a gen Tudor 9411/0 that I'm thinking of trading or selling. I went to the Vintage Rolex Market to check prices. There were vintage fat font Blue inserts that the seller was asking 1200 USD each!!! That's half of what I paid for my watch in 2007! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Several years ago, I was traveling international quite a bit, always transiting through CDG. I was told on one of the gen forums about French customs. I usually traveled with a max of 3 watches. I got a dealer in my home town to make up invoices for my gen watches. I made up one for the Franken 1665 that I wore a lot. I never got checked, but I felt better that I had proof of purchase. Not to say that the watch is a genuine Daytona, the problem is, when you start adding aftermarket parts to a genuine Rolex, it decreases the value to Rolex purists, also, should it need service, Rolex will not touch it with any aftermarket parts, the RSC's will tell you, sorry, we won't work on it unless we replace the dial with a genuine Rolex dial. If you decide to sell it, you would have to disclose the fact that the dial is a replacement, and Rolex won't touch it. It seems sort of silly that they won't touch it, but that' their rule, and there isn't anything that can be done about it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I have to agree with Blue Prince, it's pretty bad. The first glaring fault which is a tell from 20 feet away are the subdials. Rolex never made one of these with those big overlapping subdials!! I sure hope that they weren't trying to pass this one off as a gen. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Really a tough question, as there are so many situations where a particular watch just isn't the right fit for the job. You really wouldn't want to take a Rolex Day/Date on a scuba trip, just as you wouldn't want to wear a big clunky dive watch with a Tuxedo. Really a lot depends on your profession, what you do in your leisure time. Many years ago, before I got into watch collecting. I wore a gen Rolex 1680. It was my only watch. I wore it to work every day ( I was managing my families farming operation).When I dressed up, which wasn't very often, I cleaned it up and wore it with a suit or sport jacket. Wonderful watch, and under those circumstances, it was a good fit. Today, probably that one or my 16610 would be the one. However, today my choice would be my Rolex 16750 GMT, as it is a sport watch, has the GMT function which I need occasionally, and it could be worn with just about anything except formal attire. I believe this was discussed in some detail, but it has been several years back. I think that it would depend on where you are moving to? If you were making and international move, and you were making several trips to the new location, it might be a good idea to take a few on each trip. You could go to a local bank rent a safety deposit box, store your reps there, and add more each time you travel there. That would cost a few dollars to rent a box for a year, but you know your watches are safe. A lot would depend on the country you are entering, and their laws. Also how aggressive customs agents in that country toward reps. You might try to search the old threads and see what you come up with. There is a member on RepGeek, imaknockov, who built some forged carbon cases, you might contact him. I believe that he sold all that he made, and don't know if he plans more. I have seen a couple come up for sale on the forums M2M.

I have always loved the E types, unfortunately, when they were fairly new, I couldn't justify one, now in my later years, I can't afford one!! No telling what these will sell for, but they did say the price would be 7 figures! That's on the North side of a million dollars!!! And according to the article the watches are not included, but can be ordered with the car. Any not taken will be offered to other buyers. I doubt that anyone who buys the car will turn down the watch though. What's another 5-10 k for the watch when you just spent a million plus on the car?

These are all beautiful examples of non sport watches. There are times when a dive watch just won't do, and these really fill the bill. I don't wear my Day date very often, but when the situation calls for a little "dressier"watch, it's the one I turn to.

I have recently priced Swiss ETA movements, brand new sealed packages, price is anywhere from 375 - 450 USD , so if someone says they have Swiss ETA's in their watches, I would be very skeptical. Also, because Swatch is choking off the supply of ETA movements, the 7750's are getting scarce, and more expensive. Unless you have a really nice watch that you plan to keep for a long time, it would be more feasible to get your A7750 serviced. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Talk to sneed12, he has done quite a few GMTIIC mods. You will need a GMT modified 2836, which is not easy to find. The regular ETA or Asian 2836 is a 3 hand movement, it is not a GMT movement. The DB3804 is a GMT movement, but it's a slow beat. If yours is and A2836 with a GMT Conversion, it's possible that someone like sneed could use the GMT parts in a better quality movement, like the ETA 2836-2

Vac does nice work, but be prepared for your watch to be gone for a looong time. He has an AP Diver that I sent him the end of January, and it's still with him. Never used cwazy, but have seen his work, very nice. -
Here is my 1680. MBW case, gen dial, insert and pearl, crown, crystal on a gen 93150 with 580 end links. 2846 movement. Mymanmatt installed the dial for me a year or so back. It still has some minor DW issues, but much better than before. I bought the watch several years ago from a young fellow in Florida who was trying to raise funds for Dental school, I believe I paid about 350 USD for it, pretty much stock. Ziggy did the original work, relumed the hands and the old MBW dial, installed the crown, insert and the 2846 movement. Like most of us, I have way too much in it, but it's not going anywhere, so that's not a real problem.
