  1. I lost my father's watch when returning it to an EU dealer not so long ago and felt terrible for it. I'd packaged it correctly but stupidly sent it 'Recorded' rather than 'Signed For'. Only when I contacted Royal Mail did I find out that 'Signed For' is the only fully traceable (i.e. bar-coded at every point of it's journey from the moment it's handed over the counter to the point of delivery) method available and that 'Recorded' actually only means the package's signed for once delivered. My father's watch might very well have been put straight into the pocket of the guy at the post office counter, nicked at the sorting office or kept by an opportunist post man. Then a few weeks ago I lost a watch on the way to me, why? Because the sender didn't use the secured option and it disappeared somewhere
  2. This is the one I'm holding on for too. I love the current version, but the black looks so elegant
  3. I've been doing the TZ course and have just re-built an ETA 2836-2 for the third time. On my first attempt I must have dislodged one of the stones in the pallet fork and as a result couldn't get the movement to work but necessity being the mother of invention, I used the fork from a now defunct SW200 that I had lying around because as far as I could tell they were the same and low and behold the movement ran, but with one small problem, as soon as I turned the movement dial side up, it stopped. There was clearly something amiss and as I was using a foreign part my suspicion fell there and sure enough close examination shows there is a difference in the pivots, see pic Fork on the left is the ETA part (missing one stone) and on the right is the Sellita SW200. The difference in the pivots is obviously allowing some shift when the movement is inverted which is enough to move the stones out of alignment with the teeth on the pallet wheel which of course stops the movement. Clearly I need a new pallet fork 'cause trying to re-set that missing stone looks nigh on impossible to me and this brings me to my question. Does anyone know if this part comes with the pallet stones already installed, the ETA part number is 2801 710 and is listed on Cousins website, I'm just not clear about the stones and I've been waiting a week now for Cousins to reply to my email, appreciate any help guys BTW if you havent already done so give the TZ course a go, its a fantastic feeling taking a movement completely apart and putting it back to running condition, I'm pretty sure if I can do it anyone can
  4. Try switching the bracelet end pieces around, slight differences between these might be enough to stop the spring bars popping into their holes.
  5. Definitely the same part, I've done this switch myself.
  6. Usually that type of thing remains the property of the company that supplies it.
  7. Depends a lot on where you're based (Europe, N America, Asia) and any experiences you had before. Most of the dealers on this board carry the same model so obtaining it isn't tricky. We had two, both with crappy dials, both got returned to our EU dealer. Unfortunately the second one was lost in the post and we didn't bother again. Heard a few people experiencing power reserve issues, but whether that
  8. Love it, even thought about trying to locate a gen Tudor Tiger dial and making a franken. Would buy definitely - electric blue for me please :-)
  9. Is this a rep or a gen? If its a gen it uses a bog standard ETA 2836-2 (I have this watch) and I can't believe your watchsmith can't source a stem for it, Cousins in the UK have them or Ofrei if your in CONUS. If its a rep then its a different story, you'll need to find out what movement is in it.
  10. Azerbyjam Jr and Snr have only been on the boards just shy of 18 months. In that time we've bought from five dealers - three Asian, two Euro. Of the five, only one has consistently performed and so the majority of our custom goes through them. Their products haven't been perfect, which has caused frustrations, but their professionalism and service is. If there's a problem with a product, it costs
  11. lol I think I remember seeing a post about that? Interesting project though, contemplating carrying out something similar myself!
  12. Hey Rasta, did you use a Silix PO or UPO to base the mods on?
  13. Hey Spencer, did u find a way how to do this yet? I'm thinking of getting my crystal done as well. Matt
  14. I too visited the Harrods watch department for the first time at the weekend. I was only browsing, but while sniffing around the Panerai's there was a guy placing an order for a Hublot costing
  15. If you look around the edge of the front bezel with a loupe you should see a small indent to allow you to get a knife blade or similar in to prise the bezel off, needless to say great care needed. See pic.
  16. 75674 signatures, what the hell kind of world do we live in??
  17. I have a Mont Blanc Timewalker and that too has a dial which is too large to pass through the back of the case, I've never taken the movement out but I'm told that you have to pry the front bezel off to remove the movement and dial through the front of the watch. As there's clearly no way to take the dial through the back I think that's probably what you need to do.
  18. If its been delivered it will have been signed for and the proof of delivery (scan of signature) should be available to view on the Royal Mail website. The last time I made a claim on a lost item I had to wait something like 15 days from posting before RM would consider the package lost. The claim process is fairly straight forward but a little drawn out, expect your compensation to take a few weeks to come through.
  19. Thanks By-Tor nice find, definitely on my wish list
  20. That's very useful info offshore, especially as I just kicked off on the TZ course. On that subject, while I wait for my 2801 to arrive I have been having a look at level 2 and tinkering with a Sellita SW200 that I sort of broke a while ago, with the SW 200 being, as far as I can tell, identical to the 2824, most of the lesson is applicable and all the parts I've handled so far seem to be the same. However due to the recent intervention of my cat I lost a few pieces and as I cant find Sellita spares anywhere I was wondering if anyone might now if ETA parts might fit this movement. I specifically need the hacking lever, ratchet wheel, the screw that secures the crown wheel and the screws that secure the barrel bridge. Any input much appreciated. azerbyjam
  21. Is that a gen, anton? looks superb!!
  22. Just thought I could make out SW but the picture isn't clear enough to be able to tell for sure. I have a Sellita SW 200 in my UPO and having compared it with your movement I don't think that's what you have, yours is missing the regulator screw. I guess your first instinct was correct, looks like a clone.
  23. Well it does look like there is something stamped under the balance wheel, can you post a clearer close up. I think I may be able to discern the letters SW which might make it a Sellita movement (Swiss) which is no bad thing.
  24. $45?! You got a great deal! Your son's gonna be the king pimp in the playground ;-)
